Sure thing

epihasi 04-24-2005 02:11 AM

Can anyone tell me what are other bands are out there like Black Label Society. I'm a big fan of heavy riffs and slow Drumming, like heard in Monster Magnet's "Dopes To Infinity".
Thanks for any replies...
Wait, what?
Sorry, quoted wrong person, that was meant to be for the bloke asking for avant garde bands.

Biancazzurri 04-24-2005 07:29 AM

Progressive Metal?
My recomendations are
Dream Theater - surprise surprise
Shaddow Gallery - Tyrany
Evergrey - Inner Circle
Poverty's no crime - all of them.

What's a good place to start out listening to Porcupine Tree? And by place, I mean album. Thanks.

3rdplanet 04-24-2005 04:14 PM

In Absentia.
I'd like to know what some experimental/trippy bands are. And I'd like to stay away from the more popular ones, plz.
Experimental/trippy is pretty broad.

Explosions In The Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emporer
Ulver (Perdition City-era)
The Coma Lilies
Kryzystof Penderecki
Brian Eno
Aphex Twin
Autechre
Tortoise
Talk Talk
Slowdive

I guess. But I don't really get what you're asking for.

3rdplanet 04-24-2005 04:21 PM

Trippy and experimental, Ozric Tentacles? They are pretty crazy (from what I have heard, older stuff especially)...and Tangerine Dream.

I like bands like Iron Maiden, Dream Evil, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Angel Dust, Dio, Dokken, Metallica, Deep Purple & Rainbow. Can anyone recommend some good bands I should download?

Manowar, Megadeth, Liquid Tension Experiment, Extreme, Ugly Kid Joe, Symphony X.

Bartender 04-25-2005 01:51 PM

Yep. Also Saxon (and maybe Sonata Arctica, Tad Morose, 3 Inches of Blood..power metal in general might be worth exploring).

3rdplanet 04-25-2005 04:50 PM

What are some bands that sound like Gov't Mule?

jimiandangus12 04-25-2005 05:12 PM

ArcLite 04-25-2005 05:42 PM

I'm looking to get into some Kreator. Can someone give a best album to check out please? Also any recommendations on other good old school thrash (other than Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth) would be much appreciated.

flamesofbodom 04-25-2005 06:01 PM

Anthrax is all that comes to mind

Testament - The Legacy is an amazing thrash album.

If you do the AIM thing, I'd be happy to send it too you.

ArcLite 04-25-2005 06:41 PM

Awesome, thank you sir.

StreetlightRock 04-26-2005 02:00 AM

Kk, here we go - I'm looking for intense, atmospheric music. Like, Orchastral sections/strings and keyboards, mixed with distorted guitars and drums. Apocalyptica (distorted cellos =p), After Forever, Kalmah, Eternal Tears of sorrow, stuff like that. So like, classical influences mab?

DVG.

ArcLite 04-26-2005 02:03 AM

Symphony X should be right up your alley. Check out their Odyssey album. The title track alone is worth the price. Also, you may like Therion and Skyfire.

Go...check out Haggard...now...half metal, half classical orchestrated stuff with a 20 member band.

IM me on AIM or something if you can't find any of their stuff.

StreetlightRock 04-26-2005 02:51 AM

Cool, thats for the suggestions guys.

Edit: hey are the grolws on Haggad supposed to be really soft or is it the quality of the stuff i got? like, in an undertone sort of.

DVG.

No, the growling vocals should be quite high in the mix...

Yea thats right, there a great band and they create great music. Has anyone else got any more bands that are similar?

Stoic 04-26-2005 04:30 AM

classical influenced...therion?

beaNN 04-26-2005 04:43 AM

Therion, what a band.

Iai 04-26-2005 05:46 AM
Also can someone suggest some bands with good slide guitarists?
Ry Cooder, Muddy Waters, and of course, Robert Johnson.

Ben Harper does some slide stuff too, doesn't he? Never actually listened to him though.

munky_magik 04-26-2005 05:49 AM

Yea, he does. If you're looking for Ben Harper stuff try getting his Live from Mars album as I feel his studio work really pales in comparison.

x_Evilized_x 04-26-2005 10:00 AM

Just to say thanks, I downloaded bands such as Saxon, Manowar, Sonata Arctica, Helloween etc that I was recommended. There really good, thanks! :D
