I love Pink Floyd. I love life. I love Meddle. DSoTM was important.
I totally apologize for defending DSoTM in a Pink Floyd thread. What was I thinking?
Sarcasm doesn't work that well on the internet. Of course it's fine to love DSotM, but that doesn't mean other people have to. |

DSoTM is the EPITOME of a concept album.
I don't care who likes it. I hardly ever listen to it. You have to respect it's place in history.
Because I think it is a weak concept album.
How can you defend that statement? Answer is, he couldn't. I'm moving on. |
Why don't you move on out of this thread?
Discussion was great in here until people like you come in and won't accept anyone's opinions thats different from yours. And to my knowledge, he never said he didn't respect Dark Side, he said he thought it was overrated and he didn't like it that much. Nothing about not respecting. |
Lunch, let him be. He'll figure it out. If he keeps on for a while, maybe. But don't tell someone to gtfo unless they really deserve it that much.

I know it's late but I as well think Animals is pretty weak, especially compared to their pre-DSotM stuff.
|
Animals is probably my favourite album, or maybe tied with Meddle.
On another note I heard some of David Gilmours new stuff, Nash is singing on the title track. What do you guys think of the new Gilmour stuff?? |
I know it's late but I as well think Animals is pretty weak, especially compared to their pre-DSotM stuff.
Save for Meddle and an album or two, their pre DSotM stuff is pretty mediocre so I dont see your point. |

My point is that I don't like Animals that much. Oh, and pre-DSotM>everything |
PATGOD may be my favorite Floyd album (right now) but I'll always have a soft spot for DSOTM, seeing as it was my first introduction to Floyd.

Well lets compare DSOTM, Animals, The Wall, Final Cut, MLOR, Division Bell compared to PATGOD, Saucerful, Ummagumma, Atom Heart, and Meddle.... I'm going to go with pre DSOTM although Animals is my favourite album I'd rather listen to and pre DSOTM than any post Animal albums. Edit: PS Happy Birthday David Gilmour his album came out "On an Island" wouldn't it be awesome to have your record come out on your birthday? http://www.davidgilmour.com |
Do you want spacey, phsycadelia or more progy, the later albums are more like prog albums and earlier are spacey type stuff. Just goodle Pink Floyd's Discography and look at the earlier vs later. I would get one of each, maybe Wish you Were Here.
Thanks :thumb: |
Wish you were here is my personal favorite of the band. It's just so dark and Rick Wright's keyboards are very prominent on the album, something that I like. The whole album to me is what was good pre dsotm and post dsotm, the lyrical genius of Roger Waters with the spacey and hard rock jam tracks of the band as a whole.

I like the way they use it all as homage to Syd as well. |

Well, you left out WYWH, which majorly improves the post-DSOTM era. I absolutely love the pre-Dark Side era, but it's hard to compete with albums like WYWH, Animals, and The Wall. |

What do you guys think of the new Gilmour stuff??
If my history teacher hadn't told me about it(total hippy), I never would of known about it. Have any of you guys heard it yet, i know it was supposed to come out today, but i figured somebody would of wanted to get it 1st day. If you have heard it, i guess this goes in general too, does his solo stuff sound like Floyd, or is it a different sound.? At anyrate, Right now, my favorite album is proably A Momantary Lapse of Reason. The only others I have heard(the whole album) are DTSom, and Animals, though. And i do really like Animals. Sorry I suck at post organizing. |
Just bought 'On an Island' today. Haven't listened to it yet though...

When you do, post what you think of it? |
I bought it today and listened all the way through. The beginning is very strong and reminiscent of Pink Floyd, but towards the middle tracks and finishing it is rather weak. The pace of the album never seems to change or really go anywhere, it just stops about half way through.
|
I picked up On An Island today. Only 10 bucks at Best Buy and it came with an extra cd jam. Time to give it a listen.
|

Okay. |
Listening to On an Island right now.
|
Who thinks that watching the Wall is > than listening?
Np: The Trial <3 And if you look at my original post about DSotM I just said I thought it was overrated, and a weak Concept album not a weak album in general, I just am not a fan of the concept as stated in the arguements above. Arguement officially over. |
Early Floyd is def. way better, probably the earlier, the better. See Emily Play is my fav. Floyd song, or Let There Be More Light (and what could be more fun than Corporal Clegg?)
Just about every album after DSotM except WYWH just got a little too commercial 70's arena rock bandish for me. |

Personally I like The Wall album better than the movie. I've posted why many times in this thread and in a thread in The Media Center, I don't feel like explaining again. Basically, the movie is awesome, but too dark for me, I like the album better.
I could never pick a "phase" of Floyd over another, although I admittedly don't own anything post-Wall. I'm really digging pre-DSotM stuff right now though. |

Dude, have you ever sat in the middle of your room in complete darkness and listened to that song really loudly through headphones? It's a fucking trip. /stoner |
I'm listening to the Live 8 concert. That was a really good show. Although they were the only band that whole day to get feedback. :(

/stoner
Man, that and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, as well as some really early stuff like Pow. R Toc H. and then some Come In Number 51, Your Time Is Up. Scary stuff : ( |

The extended verison of Empty Spaces is awesome, and the animations and visuals that accompany most of the songs are awesome. They did a very good job of conveying the darkness and psychological damage in Pink's life. |
