Yea, I was in Ocean City for a week of straight drinking, smoking, and partying with most other seniors who graduated from around here. I've come back a changed person, but I still love the Who.
Who hoo for graduating, where are you going to college? |
University of Michigan.
|
Rogers vocals were terrible.
My prediction is that the way too hard schedule in July will cause him to loose his voice at some point. |
University of Michigan.
I live by you then. |
Not yet, I live in Annapolis Maryland for now.
|
I think we've discussed this a little bit, but I'll live right up the road from you, Lunch. It takes me about 10 minutes to get to downtown Ann Arbor.
I live by you then.
Where do you live man? |

Where do you live man?
I live in Clinton which is about 25 minutes from Ann Arbor. Which street do you live on? |
Check out this setlist from last nights show, guys. I'm proud of the 'ol boys. This takes guts. And I hope it stays like this or similar:
Who Are You Can't Explain The Seeker Anyway, Anyhow Wire & Glass Sound Around Pick up the Peace Endless Wire We've Got a Hit They Made My Dreams Come True Mirror Door Baba O’riley Drowned Behind Blue Eyes Relay Mike Post Cry if You Want Pinball Wizard Amazing Journey See Me, Feel Me Listening to You Encore: Substitute The Kids Are Alright Won't Get Fooled Again Freakin' good deal, amirite? Lot's of new stuff. And the reaction has been good, fan and otherwise.
University of Michigan.
That's a cool Who school, I'm sure. :) |
That set list does look pretty damn good, even though I'm not as keen on the inclusion of the new stuff as you are, John. Still, looks good and Amazing Journey is in it.
|
the other date has an other setlist ;)
I am so looking forward to it |

Yes, it looks really nice. It also pays to note that some of the new songs are very short in length. Pete said some are under two minutes as they are musical peices meant to lend themselves to the mini opera as a whole. Similar to the role the short stuff from Tommy served, etc. So it moves along pretty well. And yes, the inclusion of the Tommy peices at the end of the regular show instead of the encore is a nice change, too. WGFA is a perfect all around closer.
the other date has an other setlist ;) I am so looking forward to it
And we'll all looking forward to your report. :) |
In slightly Who related news:
Elton John is coming here. He was the pinball wizard, you know. |
Yea, it was so awesome. It sucks being back in the real world now though. Although I did probably cut 10-15 years off my life while I was there.
Is that the setlist from the show at Leeds? I saw a review of that which said it was great...it would have been really easy for it to have ended up being a gimmick because of how good the first show at Leeds was, but it sounds like it was fantastic.....
No. That is the setlist from the Brighton show. Here is a setlist from the Leeds show, along with a small peice from Pete's website. Lot's of recent news on the site these days. For obvious reasons. Lot's of great new pics in "The Who" section of the site, too: Leeds Revisited On a balmy summer's night, the hottest ticket in town was The Who's much-awaited return to Leeds. First things first, if this was the band on the FIRST night of the tour god alone knows how good they'll be by the LAST night because, from the opening chords of Who Are You right through to the closing rush of Won't Get Fooled Again the band were in blistering, breathless form. Wire & Glass, the forthcoming single/mini-opera, was debuted and went down a storm whilst old favourites like Relay were delivered with equal gusto. I feel very lucky to have witnessed such an incendiary performance - as I suspect everyone else in the packed, stiflingly hot Leeds Uni refectory felt afterwards too. No need for me to wax lyrical about the performance as it was all recorded for later release in the Encore Series so you'll all be able to sample it for yourselves … can't wait. For now, some pix from last night and the set-list. More pix to follow on Who site asap. And with that, it's on to sunny Brighton … Hamish Set-list: Who Are You Can't Explain The Seeker Substitute Wire & Glass Sound Around Pick Up The Peace Endless Wire We've Got A Hit They Made My Dreams Come True Mirror Door Baba O'Riley Let's See Action Relay Behind Blue Eyes Mike Post Theme Pinball Wizard Amazing Journey See Me Listening To You Encores: Eminence Front Naked Eye Won't Get Fooled Again http://www.petetownshend.co.uk/ |
Name change ftw?
JXD, did you see any of the new material performed? I hope they're playing it well. |
I live in Clinton which is about 25 minutes from Ann Arbor.
Which street do you live on?
I live in Dexter, which is prolly a 30 minute drive via US-23 to get to Clinton. I realized today while listening to Who Are You (album) that my favorite Who songs are Entwistle compositions. 905, My Wife, Sucess Story. Cool stuff. |
Name change ftw?
JXD, did you see any of the new material performed? I hope they're playing it well.
Yes. I saw three tunes. And apparently on the 25th have another date. I did not know. They sounded good, but a bit tentative. Just a bit. Pete even said after The Seeker "don't worry. we're just getting warmed up". Then they blasted into Substitute. First night of the tour. But yes, they sounded incredible. And from all reports from fans and critics it was. I saw fans being interevied right after they left the gig and they were smiling, soaked in sweat, and downright joyful. Beaming from ear to ear. This band rocks, make no mistake. |
nice news story here with video from the Leeds show. just find and click on The Who on the page. it's about 10 minutes long.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/default.stm also, what happened to the thread name? i rather liked it. can we get another? |
Yeah, I noticed that most of the official band threads have only the band name. We had a good thread name here.
|
Of course the set will be polished and near perfect by the time they hit come over to the States.
Perhaps the mods thought the elaborate lyric-names made the forum look confusing or something? I don't know, I liked the old name too. |
Couple of Who news articles. One a review of the Leeds gig, another a preview of the this weekends Wireless Festival. Kind of cool that The Who can play alongside much more "young and modern bands" and pull it off:

I haven't really read up on here, but I'm going to see them this Sunday. I'm going with a few friends, I'm not a great fan.
Anyone else going? |
If you can post and tell us about it. A couple of other users are going to see them soon also, and we're all eager for first hand accounts.
At least I am..... |
The tickets were about £35, it's at the wireless festival, some place at Harewood house in Leeds? It might sound a bit dodgy me not knowing much about it, but I'm just going to see a few bands and having a laugh with a few friends.
Il let you know how it goes. |
Yeah. Don't worry about it. Sounds like a good time. Don't worry about it if you aren't a big fan of the band or whatever. Just a post with your general impressions would be great. You know, how did they sound, what was the performance like, did people emjoy it, etc.
Ought to be interestimg to hear about.... |
Anyone seeing them in hyde park cuz i may see u there it's gonna rock
|
Yup ;)
Who Are You Can't Explain Seeker Anyway, Anyhow Wire & Glass (Mini-opera) Sound Around Pick Up The Peace Endless Wire We've Got A Hit They Made My Dreams Come True Mirror Door Baba O'Riley Drowned Relay The Kids Are Alright Behind Blue Eyes Mike Post Cry If You Want Pinball Wizard Amazing Journey See Me, Feel Me Listening To You Encore: Substitute Won't Get Fooled Again Where is the My Generation |
Now they don't hope they die before they get old.
|
My Generation hasn't made an appearance yet. :(
|
My Generation hasn't made an appearance yet. :(
which is interesting, seeing as how besides songs like Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Reily, Who Are You, and Pinball Wizard, its one of their biggest hits. Maybe it is because of that one line. |
