Thanks.

Yeah. So I'd say Roll The Bones is the exeption to the general Geddy Lee vocal style. I mention it in my review. Check my profile.

There it is! :) Been digging Moving Pictures lately. |
Everyone should be digging Moving Pictures all of the time.
|
Aren't there a lot of back up of vocals in Roll the Bones? I may be wrong, it's been awhile since I've heard the song.

Dudes, i got into rush a ton at the beginning of the year. i love the dvds they put out.... especally live in rio.... dudes, at first i was into the whole "2112" stuff, but then i graduated and started listening to all their other stuff. I am pritty familier with all thier stuff except a few of their very early albums and Vapor Trails (but i love Earthshine and One little Victory... badass songs). Right now though im all "Grace Under Pressure" and "Counterparts". Almost two totally diffrent cds but both equally badass! I learned how to play Distant early warning a little while back on bass and now i cant stop playing that.... same with Body Electric..... i think im gonna go ahead and learn the rest of freewill today.... and im also workin on YYZ.... but my all time favorite songs from Rush are "Cinderella Man, Fly By Night, La Villa Strangitto, and Animate" happy listening

Sweet. They're amazing live.

Rush are meant to be embraced. Not casually listened to. |
So now the question is... that DVD or R30?
So now the question is... that DVD or R30?
ive got all the current dvds that i know has been released from them at the moment.... Chronicles, Rush In Rio, R30.... thats the only ones i got but i have a magazine where someone wrote in and said that Rush was releasing All the world's a Stage, Exit Stage Left, and Grace Under Pressure in a dvd... but that was just a rumor i dont know if it holds any truth.... |
i used to love listening to 2112 (the song) well i suppose i still do, but one day i was surfing the net when i found an interesting topic on what the song truely ment... and one guy said that it was a metaphor for how kids are rebelious against parents and such.... and in the story the preasts of the temples of syrinx are the parents, and the narrator is the child who just wants to be freed from the slave life braught forth by the parents.... and it goes on and on and more in depth breaking down every line..... but after reading htat i never looked at the song hte same way again
|
I always looked at it from a more politcal standpoint, the whole Orwellian concept of a false utopia being controlled by the few. The familial veiw seems a bit ridiculous to me.
|
Yeah, I'm pretty sure 2112 is just an awesome Orwellian song about oppression of the arts and whatnot. Of course there's always the controversy about what the end of the song actually means... it's not very clear at all.
Well, after ODing on 2112 I finally got Moving Pictures. I actually was kind of disappointed at first, but it's grown on me, especially YYZ (I've listened to it like 8 times today). I like the live version better (I saw it on Google Video), although I like having the constant backing synth in studio, plus that glass breaking noise is sweet :D I would love to be able to play that song live someday :) Does anyone know what the title means? I remember when I first heard it I thought of the "super-males" (men with the chromosomes XYY or YYX because of a rare accidental triple combination of sex cells at conception), but that's obviously not it. |
YYZ is an ode to Toronto, something to do with an airport code. The rhythm of the main riff mimics the morse code...

The first 4 songs are all top-notch. By the way, if you like 2112, listen to Hemispheres. |
I really enjoy The Camera Eye and Vital Signs, and I don't see what everyone's problem with the second part of that album is. Sure, Witch Hunt is kind of a lacking track, but the two I mentioned are great.

I guess I got kind of an 80's vibe off it at first, and I can't stand most 80's music. I don't know why, I really can't. After listening to it a few times I got that out of my system though. Tom Sawyer's is kind of overrated I think though. It's a good song, but it always tops Rush's Best lists and whatnot. It's pretty standard IMO. I love Red Barchetta, the lyrics remind me of HL:2 and other Orwellian-type stuff. YYZ is obviously awesome. Limelight is pretty sweet, same with The Camera Eye, I like Witch Hunt pretty well, and Vital Signs is pretty good too. I'd have to go with YYZ for my favorite ATM though. I definitely plan to pick up their other 70's material, I had heard good things about Moving Pictures so I decided to go ahead and pick it up. |
Limelight has such a great melody. That would be my favorite on Moving Pictures.
|
So has anyone heard Presto? Is it any good? My essential Rush discography is complete and now i'm looking into the less popular albums.
|
Yeah, Its not bad. I think thats the one with Marathon on it, isn't it?? I had the entire discography until my hard drive crashed. Now I really need to start collecting the cds.
That new DVD set is going to ****ing rock, I love Grace Under Pressure and those other two concerts are going to kick. I mean Rush in the 80's, how cool is that?? |
I've seen the new DVD set. Looks pretty sweet. If they didn't have so damn many other DVDs, i'd buy it.
|
The DVDs are awesome, I got them the day they came out. It was only 27 bucks for 3 DVDs and 1 CD.
|
Rush replay x3 isnt coming out here until the 19th :(
preordered though  |
I could get it at best buy. But i'm considering all of my options for a Rush DVD. Probably Rush in Rio is the best choice. Anyone have any suggestions?

Rush In Rio probably has the best set list but the worst quality in my opinion. I think that R30 is better. A lot of songs were cut from R30, so the set list is shorter, but there are some awesome extras. The new one, Replay, is also better then Rush In Rio. RiR is good, but probably the worst of their live DVDs. |

I dont see the problem with Rush in Rio quality to be honest, its not amazing but I see alot of people giving it really bad reviews because of it, which sucks. YYZ on RiR is absolutely amazing |

Yeah, I don't think RiR is terrible, just the worst of their live DVDs. I still enjoy it quite a bit. |
News on the upcoming Rush album + pics of Neil's new kit.

Mmm... interesting. I'd have never believed that some Rush members are friends with Alternative Rock Bands. :-0
Good news though. They haven't released anything new since Vapour trails, this should be interesting. |
