I went to one of my local music stores looking for a guitar for my cousin. I ended up playing Money on bass. :upset: It was fun.
Yea I don't play bass, I play guitar, but whenever I go to Guitar Center I find myself playing Money. (and dazed and confused /not floyd LOL  ) |
Im stoppin by Sam Ash Music tommorrow for a new Amp (which i have no idea what to even consider), and i plan on playing a bunch of floyd songs since thats the main reason im upgrading to better equipment. Hopefully a new amp will get rid of all that frikkin distortion i get, especially during the money solo.

Nor do I, but it's a **** good song to know on bass. :D I was also playing WYWH today, but no one was impressed with my guitar skills. :upset: FYI: I ordered The Wall DVD on Amazon today. |
Yo, anybody who likes Pink Floyd should look into getting their live cd "is there anybody out there" Its the wall live, and the only pink floyd live cd (besides ummagumma) to feature the classic pink floyd line up. It also has tracks you can't hear on the studio album like "What shall we do now" (p.s. this is my first post so if i messed up be kind :)

I have it on Rhapsody, Mother is amazing on that album. Welcome to mx  |
still can't decide which is better
The Wall....or.....Dark Side of the Moon |
I agree with WYWH being the first best, but then I'd put DSOTM, Meddle, and The Wall, all tied for one spot. Its so hard trying to rank their albums! I think they're all great.
Also, I'm going to a new years party later and getting my final christmas present. I think its Pompeii cause my dad told me not to buy it, as if he knew I'd already be getting it... |

Welcome to MX. I love Is There Anybody Out There. I kind of wish they didn't split up some of the tracks the way they did, but its still awesome. Especially the extended guitar solo in ABITW pt. 2. As for Echoes, I don't get bored by it at all when I listen to the whole thing. I really wish they'd kept it together for the live in pompeii DVD. And my favorite part is the instrumental section after the ambient breakdown, but before the third verse. Right as the keyboard pinging starts coming back. That section is unbelievable. |
Ok I finally got the Wall movie. Haven't seen it yet, maybe later tonight.

Did you get it on DVD? If you did, then watch the documentary afterwards, it helps make sense out of the movie.
still can't decide which is better The Wall....or.....Dark Side of the Moon
I usually listen to DSOTM more often then I listen to The Wall. |
Oh man I love the funky parts. This rules man. My favorite funky part ever in on SOYCD pts VI - IX . Its got like the coolest chord progression I've ever heard, and tone itself is enough to make it rule. Ok, listening to it now, the whole funkiness starts at about 6:30, but the awesome chords are at 7:30. DUDES. If you have this song on your computer listen now! THIS RULES.
True that. My fave Water's bass lines are in that part of Shine On. I'm reading Inside Out lately, and Nick talks about recording Shine On, and when Syd came into the studio for a visit at Abbey Road. He said that the most effective part of the album was when Shine On fades out, and Rick plays on keyboards and trumpet, part of See Emily Play. I never noticed it untill I read that. Have you guys? |

:thumb: finally :p |
I orded the Wall Bootleg from Ebay. It's wicked. Whenever you get a bootleg, you get the real bamd. DVDs can be edited, polished, the best takes are put on, etc. But even though the DVD has shotty camera work, it's really cool. Gilmour messes up pretty badly on the Cnumb solo though...
|
I have always wanted to see video of them doing the Wall live, maybe I will try t ofind a bootleg of it.
/me is watching David Gilmour In concert |
I should look for bootlegs. I've got quite a few, but none of Pink Floyd. Well, time to change that.
|
/me finally got Live at Pompeii. Its even better than I ever could imagine. Man the funky part on Echoes part 1 rules so much. I love Gilmour's guitaring on that part.
|
I have a question for you guys about Animals. I was reading the "which ones pink" "book" that said that Animals was about comparing EVERYONE to three different types of animals. Is this really what it was about?
I thought it was comparing everyone in the cooperate business world to the animals, not to everyone .If you notice, the booklet insert always featured pictures of the large manufacturing plant. It would be very pretentious to try and categorize everyone in the world to four types of people. What are your thoughts on this? |

Best part in any song. Ever. |
What do people prefer, SOYCD parts 1-5, or parts 6-9? I personally prefer 1-5, but thats just me.
|
I think I like the second part better. It seems like most prefer the first part while the second one gets overlooked.
I watched the Wall Dvd today, and I wasn't all that impressed. Decent but not up to my expectations. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for the Wall. |
Hmm... It's a pretty divisive DVD. I know a lot of people who love it, I know a lot don't like it much at all. I personally like it.

The animation was great. I'm going to watch it again when I'm really in the mood for The Wall. |
I love the animations. I really like what they did with The Trial.
|
I really like The Trial too, but my favorite animation is on Empty Spaces. I love the part when the gun turns into the needle and all that stuff. Real cool.
And yea I like SOYCD 6-9 a lot, because it has funkiness to it, and a really cool slide solo. I really love the guitar parts in 1-5 though, so I'd probably say I like that better. I've been trying to play Echoes after seeing it on Pompeii, but I can't really get the part where it turns funky and Gilmour puts on all the distortion. Its like he changed the scale from the first half of the song. That part's real cool too. |
In 6-9, when the funky part starts, I'm never sure of this: Is the main line being played by roger or Rick on synth? 'cause I hear another bass in the background, but it seems that Rick can't be playing the sharp piano part and the synth line at the same time?? |

I love the guitar in 1-5, but then 6-9 has the awesome funkyness part.. it hard to choose, but I'd say 1-5... I love the intro guitar solo :) |

If you're talking about the line that starts at 7:07, I think that is synth, because it sounds too high to be played on bass. Then when the really high synth part starts, I'm thinking they just overdubbed the same line for a little, then let it fade out. |

My problem with playing that song is doing the high fret bends without muting the string :-/ |
Do you know how to play it though? or have a tab of the whole song?
|
I've memorized a few licks from it, but I still need the tab to play most of it
