Six Organs of Admittance - School of the Flower

Its nice, the music is well thought out, but since I'm not a stoner I can't fully enjoy this.

7.6/10
Haha. I'm a fan of that one (title track = omgz), but I see where you're coming from.

The Comsat Angels - Sleep No More
Powerful record, I'm surprised I'm just now hearing this. Post-punk was an amazingly consistent time/genre for music.

Little Man being Erased 10-18-2006 06:14 PM

Various Artists - Plague Songs

Main reason I checked this out was for the Eno/Robert Wyatt song. But there's some neat stuff here. Songs about the biblical plagues. Lotsa big names. Scott Walker. lolol.

Irene - Apple Bay

Stephen Merritt parading as a Morrissey imitator playing C-86 cumshots with Beat Happening's rhythm section. Not bad. "The Game" is excellent. The Morrissey "ah-hahs" need to go, though.

Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start - And Nothing is #1

This is...nice

Happymeal 10-18-2006 11:42 PM

Joanna Newsom - Milk-eyed Mender aaaand Ys

I remember hearing some songs by her last year and didnt like it. But Jeeeeesus Christ I was prbably drunk or something. Her voice is pretty and she is beautiful and her music is amazing. I'm addicted.

perriwinkle 10-19-2006 12:03 AM

sexymuffin 10-19-2006 12:04 AM

David Bowie - Low

All the hype, and THIS?

Dead Kennedys - FFFRV

I forgot how great this is.

Neoteric 10-19-2006 07:18 AM

The anticipation of the new Deftones CD is getting me back into them. So yeah, White Pony.

How does it compare to their last one?

JonM 10-19-2006 09:07 AM

I'm digging Abida Parveen. She's the female legend of Qawwali, which is Sufi devotional singing. But y'all probably don't care.

Converge - No Heroes

Man, I wish Dowsing didn't come out this year.

mr_jackalope 10-19-2006 05:10 PM

I still don't like that Woven Hand album. I'll pop it in again in a week or so.

I've had a very packt day, I must say:

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Tom Waits - Alice
Lambchop - Nixon
Rafter - 10 Songs
Indian Jewelry - Invasive Exotics
Les Georges Leningrad - Sangue Puro
Pit Er Pat - Pyramid

The new Les Georges Leningrad is pretty fantastic, gotta say.

Rope - Heresy, And Then Nothing But Tears
Really interesting record:
Rope formed in Poland as a guitar/bass duo in 1998. Since relocating to Chicago in 2000 they have become one of the city's most flummoxing avant rock groups. Heresy, and Then Nothing But Tears is their second full-length album. Robert Iwanik (bass, vocals), Przemyslaw Krzysztof Drazek (guitar) and Michael J. Kendrick (trap set, percussion, electronics) blend deconstructed strains of Swans' emotional weight and Last Exit's fury with propelling grooves and Krzysztof Komeda's classical suspense into lush and often uncompromising no wave abrasion. Rope's constantly evolving ocean of impossible rhythms, screaming guitar and Iwanik's hissing voice adds up to an ultra-dynamic group force of cryptic awe. Features guest vocals from Grazyna Auguscik and songwriting/vocal collaboration by Oxbow's Eugene Robinson on four songs. Cover art by famed Polish fringe painter Stanislaw Ignacy "Witkacy" Witkiewicz.
