You need a specific rice.

trysthedrummer 04-16-2008 01:37 PM

Na any rice will do. chicken fried rice mm

complements the cream perfectly

Jezen 04-16-2008 01:37 PM

Haven't got any milk left. All the milk goes away with my lattes.

I probably don't have that specific rice either. I got two tins of Ambrosia rice pudding for like 63p each so I'm quite satisfied.

I also got some microwave popcorn, and a pepperoni pizza because tonight I wanna relax, watch Top Gear and Dragons Den, and not cook.
Chipple how much do you practice a day? or week?

lol, these people who make traffic cops on bbc1 sure do like Fluke...
Average of around 10-15 hours a week at the moment. Thats around 1-4 hours a day with days off. I literally sit practising all day....I have no job and no college, I'm trying to get awesome at drums!
Just before Christmas it was alot more. Around 15-20 hours a week.

It might not sound much but I keep a diary of what I've practised and for how long. You'd be surprised how long practising properly for 3 hours takes! Not just looking at the clock at 11:00am then again at 2:00pm and being like "yay, I practiced for 3 hours" cos in reality, the actual time you'd have spent practicing would be like an hour and a half!

Dunno if that makes sense....?

Why you ask anyway?
Brit, eh?

This thread is basically the ****-hole of the whole forum.

I saw one of your posts in another thread and you should definitely stay around here, we need more people like you.
Nah, not British. I just like sayin' it, sounds right cool.

And I appreciate it.
Awww sorry I missed ja.

But I'm doin' all sortza good and stuffs, aside from the sad news I just received that my RA is gettin' removed from the dorms 'cause he stole a meal :(
He was totally the coolest RA evar.
Ah, that sucks. Also seems kinda harsh?

trysthedrummer 04-16-2008 01:43 PM

If you practice that much (if you practice things right, anyway) then I'm sure you are definately good. Maybe just not a good few days/weeks you've been having.

My brother has quite college and now is home, just practicing drums all day and works weekends.

I wish that I could, but I work everyday. It's excellent money, but Im always thinking of music and beats during the day! i like my job, but I love drumming.

Static 04-16-2008 01:48 PM

With that dedication, your solid soundclips, and your obvious dedication to drums, I'd say you are quite the player - whether it be a technical player, a groove player, or a blast beat player, it doesn't matter. You obviously have a thing for it, and that's really what matters, right?

Pleaseme 04-16-2008 01:49 PM

Yey just bought the hoops and mounts I'm going to need for making my octobans. I'm turning the lugs up myself from half inch brass rod having just designed them in solidworks.

I should be able to make them over my summer term at uni, one of my friends has a workshop at his disposal. Eeeee!

More like bad months!

I don't feel that the amount I practice honestly pays off. So far I'm not getting out what I put in....making very minimal improvement. Pretty much hit a MASSIVE wall.

I'm pretty sure I need to go back and really work on my timing. I think thats one of the issues I've got. What I play sounds like it could be really good but it just doesn't groove and I think thats down to very slight timing issues that can't be heard but you can feel em.

I dunno. I'm taking a few days off then I'm gonna go back and work my *** off like I did a few months back. I have a few band opportunities that I'm prob gonna take up....if I can bare to inflict my awful drumming upon other people! Maybe book a BIMM assessment for like a month from now then see how confident I feel closer to the time.

I wish.

I used to be a decent groover with pretty good technique but not anymore.

If you were to hear me play I bet you wouldn't say I was quite the player.

Static 04-16-2008 01:55 PM

I think you must have self esteem issues.

trysthedrummer 04-16-2008 01:55 PM

Good good. I try and do at least an hour every night on the pad.

Definately get in a few bands though, and enjoy it.

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 02:13 PM
I think you must have self esteem issues.
I do.

It's stemmed from recording myself on a regular basis...I have low self esteem because I know what my playing really sounds like...rather than what I thought it sounded like and I hate the idea of people having to listen to my playing.

When I was in a band a few months back, I had people come up to me telling me I was the most awesome drummer they'd seen, other drummers asking me how long I'd been playing, how I played a certain lick etc etc.

Gigging became more of a little game to see how many compliments I could get in a row...I managed to get a stint of like 10 gigs where someone told me something good about my drumming. And I eventually started to believe that I was pretty good or at least on the right track!

Then in October I found myself without a band...so I decided to use the time just focus on my drumming, get really good, fix up any little issues. This is when I started recording myself on a regular basis rather than just listening to band rehearsals, gigs or studio sessions (all of which were kinda rare occasions but the playing on them sounded fine anyway)

Now I hear my playing back and I feel like I wanna cry/puke. My grooves don't flow (or groove!) and the way I play just sounds clumsy....like a cat in a bin. I even hate the way I look on the drums.

I don't think I've really gotten worse, I just hear my drumming for the way it really is rather than deluding myself and going by the compliments people give me.

And childish. Honestly, almost everyone does that sort of thing in college, and also you pay for the food, so what's wrong with taking a little extra food when you're in the caf anyway?

Pleaseme 04-16-2008 02:17 PM

Lugs should look like this when they're done. Paradiddle Pete, come get some! :p

4 on each octoban, and I'm making two with possibly two more if these are successful.

Your playing will ALWAYS sound better to other people than yourself. Honestly, stop being so critical about your playing and just play.
Your playing will ALWAYS sound better to other people than yourself.
Does it though?

When I'm actually playing, I think it sounds alright. Then when I listen back, it sounds completely ****.

It's got the point where I know that what I'm hearing whilst playing sounds different (worse) to the listener. Cos when you record yourself and listen back...you are the listener.

So when I hear it and it sounds like crap, how can it sound good to someone else!?

Static 04-16-2008 02:35 PM

Because you are too critical, of course.

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 02:38 PM

Too critical or properly honest?

Seafroggys 04-16-2008 02:38 PM

People say and think I'm much better than I think I am.

Right now I kind of have issues because I've been in two drum-offs where I have been whopped by people playing half as long as me.

Static 04-16-2008 02:41 PM
Too critical or properly honest?
Too critical.

In my opinion, of course. I'm not trying to impose upon your perceptions of yourself.

No worries man.

I wish I could agree with you and thought I was being harsh on myself but I just don't believe it. I really think I give myself an honest evaluation by saying at this moment in time, I'm sh!t.

LoneStarDrummer 04-16-2008 03:31 PM

got outta class a bit early. i'm headed to get my drums right after i type this. hopefully everything goes well.
