Taste_My_Scythe 06-22-2005 03:24 PM

What's that?

Jom 06-22-2005 03:25 PM

Prepare for huge post from me:

This goes to all the regulars and anyone else who posts here:

Internet grudges are gay. I'm not responding to pathetic potshots time and time again and always winning while the excuse for losing is "Oh, that's just who I am and my personality got the best of me" over and over and over again. I can't emphasize enough how it kills the community spirit over and over and over again. You understand my drift? This isn't a once-in-a-blue-moon thing. This is a cyclical, it-happens-far-too-often-bullshit thing. And it needs to stop.

Yes, I singled Ray out there as a predominant example, but I know he's man enough to take it.

Part of being in a community has both positive and negative aspects. Look around your communities: neighbors, colleagues at work, fellow students if you are in middle/junior/senior high school or college or university, and so on. Yeah, people in your community are going to have differing personalities than you, and you're going to be turned off by them. I know I did, I've been rather adamant about my hatred for numbskulls at my university and at work.

And then there are people who are genuinely good people, and make you look forward to going to this thread/work/school/whatever.

You just have to take the good with the bad. You can't force people to change their personalities and likenesses to fit your needs. That's just stupid. Nobody owns this thread as his or her own.

The point of this thread is to, duh, have a community-like feel to it.

This doesn't mean that you can spam this thread to Hell and back, though. Why would you do that? That makes no sense. You can ride the shortbus using AIM or MSN.

Also, everyone begins to learn that introductory/concluding posts aren't really needed. Just post and join the conversation at hand. You don't need to interrupt it by saying "Hi guys " or "I'm going to go chill, later "

And single-smiley posts are just retarded. If you think something is funny, but the only thing you can do is say "," then it's not all that beneficial to post a single smiley. I'll echo what Superpeer said: Bartender is not a robot, and he's likely tired/annoyed that he has to edit and delete posts because of their lack of substance.

So, really, exhibit some control when it comes to spamming and smiley-posting. No one cares that you can cast a Level 69 Anti-Faggot spell on someone in one post and then have the next person quote you and say ":amaze:" after.

But getting back to the community feel: this is supposed to have the feeling that you want to come in, not dread it.

Personally, I don't post nearly as often here because of the lame amounts of circlejerking that take place, coupled with asinine discussion. But, I'm not the only one who thinks this. Why else would used-to-be-regs like Bobo and Kage post so sporadically now? They finally find the time to introduce a new topic or contribute to a discussion, and then someone has to make a U-turn into spam.

Another thing that's absolutely infuriating is when elitist regs don't make newcomers or used-to-be-regs feel welcome (again). Guess what, guys. You used to be a newcomer as well. This is not your guys's thread. It's a thread for everyone, and everyone has the right to feel welcome and free to post here, so long as they keep the rules in mind.

When someone comes in and states an opinion, you don't need to drive them out by making your opinion sound superior to theirs. You can throw around adjectives like "ignorant" and phrases like "Please go die," but that's not setting the greatest example. In essence, you're representing the thread. Don't be dicks/bitches to people.

Again, this is a community thread open for all, not "The R&M Stuck-Up and Pissed Off Elitist Circlejerking Spamfest."

Come here to talk about your day, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your partner, your family, your friends, your music aspirations, whatever the hell you want, provided that you don't act stupid about it. That's what this thread is for.

If people don't care about you, they can easily ignore you. There's an ignore list feature, and there's also a ready-made ignore feature built inside your brains. Use either one if you don't give two shits and a fuck about whatever someone is talking about. Just pass over it and move on. Yeah, CemeteryGates was a douchebag. But now he's gone. Yes, larsagi can't type for jack and makes up really lame stories about threatening someone for being on the Internet. But I've learned to not care what he says, mostly because I can't decipher what the hell he's talking about the first time. This goes back to members whom you like in the community and members whom you couldn't care less for in the community.

Either way, this community currently possesses more negatives than positives, and this needs to change.

So, if you don't like me, I don't really care. Honestly. But you will have to accept the fact that you have to deal with me for awhile. I am in the process of doing the same.

Come on, ladies and gents. All the bullshit can be overcome if you would just stop being so spammy/protective/asshole-ish/Internet stalker-y/whatever adjective here.

/me takes a break from MX to give icebath to swollen ankle :emo:

Silent Death 06-22-2005 03:26 PM

Silent Death 06-22-2005 03:28 PM

Some good advice there AntiHero.

Lord Abortion 06-22-2005 03:30 PM

I wish Jom had singled people out and so It would prevent people having a "what am I doing wrong?" feeling right now...

I might just be being dense but that was totally out of the blue...

Yeah, I kinda got that. Then I figured that Jom probably has a lot of his plate keeping people on this board in order and just wanted to post a general notice. Don't think we were all doing something wrong.

Taste_My_Scythe 06-22-2005 03:37 PM

Wow! Good stuff! I was thinking of buying Technical Difficulties too, but I have other stuff I want to buy first. I still don't have Clayman yet.

Rothmans 06-22-2005 03:38 PM

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-22-2005 03:42 PM

Today I picked up Deadwing by Porcupine Tree. So far, the only way I can describe this album is atmosphericly orgasmic.

Nah, it's alright. I'd rather buy the entire album than downloading it. Thanks though.

I'd agree with you, Jom.

I'm guilty of a fair share of the things you mention myself, and I will make an effort to shape up a bit.

In other news, I just got a call from an army recruiter:

Recruiter: Hi! How's it hangin', bro?
Me: Uh, fine
R: So when are you going to join the army!?
M: I'm not eligible
R: If you dont mind me asking, why not!?
M: Legal issues (I'm bluffing)
R: What did you do?!
M: I'd rather not discuss that
R: Why not!?

You totally should. They have a quaint "cliched uniqueness" sound. I'd reccomend In Absentia for starters. It's a concept album who's identity has yet to be totally revealed. :p I know bits and pieces of it, but the gist of the album is that it's about this guy who is living an unhappy life, and he has a family that he is unhappy with. I know, this is very vague, but this is my personal interpretation of it. :-/
