And a smidgen of Italian, or is that stretching it?
Not at all.

I also sense a pinch of Turkish.

br3ad_man 10-28-2005 07:27 AM
br3ad: Yes, City of God and Requiem for a Dream are must-see movies. You'll never do coke/diet pills/heroin again or start your own drug cartel.
I'll have to wait a year. I'm looking forward to it though. Tonight, a friend and I were chatting about movie nights we want to have in the holidays. We want to get through a heap of Kubrick movies for starters. Should be cool.

Kyle 10-28-2005 07:28 AM

I watched Clockwork Orange just this morning :D

Zmev 10-28-2005 10:29 AM

I'm almost done reading it.

Wanker 10-28-2005 10:52 AM

A Clockwork Orange (the movie) was meh. I guess that I only think that way because it's always been so hyped up and once I actually saw it, I actually said "meh."

Kyle 10-28-2005 11:33 AM

I think the film is great, but that's only because I have been so unsatisfied with movies recently. This year has probably been one of the worst years ever for films in my oppinion. I prefer the book though, its more interesting from start to finish, whereas the film seems to drag on towards the end.

edit: Jarvis Cocker is on newsnight tonight giving an interview to anyone interested.

Electrocution 10-28-2005 12:16 PM

Requiem for a Dream the book is incredible. Read it.

RollerQueen 10-28-2005 12:49 PM

I have the book of Requiem. It has about a dozen other books ahead of it, though.

Kyle, how can you say that this year sucks for movies? Haven't you seen The Island? It's like Parts: The Clonus Horror never went away!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!11!!!

Zmev 10-28-2005 01:04 PM

I tried to read, but someone talked to me and messed up my flow.

meh, it was ok. I looked at the listings for the cinema about a month ago to find 6 re-makes showing!! now if that's not a signal that Hollywood is lacking ideas I don't know what is.

 Can't believe I have that many posts in there.

I'm so glad it's friday (even though I'm not doing anything, I've had a very tiring week at work (first week of my new job). Went well apart from some pillock abusing me when I had to perform security checks on a withdrawal he wanted to make (£1000).

Happymeal 10-28-2005 02:57 PM

My friend is so excited in seeing Opeth tonight it's creepy. On that note, I'm gonna miss Cryptopsy tomorrow:(:(

sweboy 10-28-2005 03:43 PM

One week break for school, a-hell yeah!

something vague 10-28-2005 04:06 PM

I might go see a concert tonight, if I can get a ride from the band members. I'm so cool.

Is it worth paying £43 ($77) to see BB King and Gary Moore (together) on tour in April? I know BB is a legend (don't know too much about Moore) but is the price justifiable?

Glitterati 10-28-2005 04:54 PM

How is everyone today? I'm happy because it's Friday and I'm going for an airsoft war in a little while.

Daniel! 10-28-2005 04:56 PM

I got totally owned in an airsoft war about an hour or two ago.

bubbledeath 10-28-2005 05:05 PM

So I'm probably not cool enough to post here yet, and I know it's going to sound crazy, but do any of you feel like writing a 50,000 words novel next month for NaNoWriMo?

I know, you're busy, you've never written stuff before, blah blah blah blah blah blah. But I did this last year and I can tell you that it's unbelievable (and fun!), whether you "win" or not. Who wants to give it a try?

Hmmm. I write a lot anyways. Sounds interesting. So you win so longs as you get 50,000 words, eh? I like these kinds of things because I work best on deadlines.

Bartender 10-28-2005 06:01 PM

That looks so excellently pointless I might just sign up for it.

br3ad_man 10-28-2005 06:05 PM
Is it worth paying £43 ($77) to see BB King and Gary Moore (together) on tour in April? I know BB is a legend (don't know too much about Moore) but is the price justifiable?
Depends what your budget is like. If you can easily afford it, you should go. BB King is badass and Moore is also good and a rock legend.

As for movies this year, they have mostly sucked. I can almost count on one hand the movies I have enjoyed (not the ones that have been particularly good, just ones I have enjoyed). Sin City, Batman Begins and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory are pretty much the only good ones there have been. I also enjoyed Hitch and Be Cool. The Interpreter was a fairly good movie, but there are normally heaps of movies of similar quality coming out in a year. It just seems better than it was because nothing else has been good this year. Sean Penn kicks ***.

Now, can anyone tell me some books I should read? I've just realised that I'm not reading anywhere near as much as I should be. It's not because I can't be bothered, it's because I'm so often dissapointed by books that I can't think of anything I want to read.

Bartender 10-28-2005 06:16 PM

Have you read the Hitchiker's Guide trilogy?

br3ad_man 10-28-2005 06:17 PM

Yes

Robert Crumb 10-28-2005 06:19 PM

Read any Hunter Thompson?

br3ad_man 10-28-2005 06:30 PM

I pretty much like anything amusing or interesting. Last great book I read was "Shutter Island" by Dennis Lahane.
Read any Hunter Thompson?
Dennis Lehane is a great writer. I think I've read all of the Patrick Kenzie series, and Shutter Island was the one set at the mental institution, yeah? He's a great author.

I am so confused.

Robert Crumb 10-28-2005 06:53 PM
Nope
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is great, very amusing. As is The Rum Diary. Both are worth checking out. The Great Shark Hunt also has a lot of nice pieces of his stuff. Not a novel, though, if that's what you're looking for.

RollerQueen 10-28-2005 06:54 PM

For clarity's sake, I thought The Island was atrocious cinema. A sequel to Boondock Saints is supposedly in the making, though, so that should be good.

I went to a hockey game tonight. During overtime this player on our home team got in 2 fights within 3 minutes. If it matters to anybody, which I'm sure it doesn't, the game was Knoxville Ice Bears against the Huntsville Havoc.

BillCosby 10-28-2005 09:44 PM

I just got back from my school's Battle of the Bands. Every band was terrible.

Score.

Sam 10-28-2005 09:52 PM

School functions suck.

All the members of the good bands from my school graduated last year. :/

JonM 10-28-2005 10:28 PM

Anybody have the Iron & Wine Bonnaroo performance? If so, you should talk to me on AIM.

6Stringer 10-28-2005 10:42 PM

I was thinking about getting it, but then decided not to. I'll consider it though.
