Do any of you guys get Channel 1 at school?
I used to (man those "reporters" are fags, they make up the lamest jokes), but my grandpa decided that I needed a good "education" so my parents decided to send to private school as long as he pays tuition for me

Johnny B. Good 01-12-2005 07:33 PM
I didn't know polar bears carried swords, unless by polar bears you mean power metal bands

I'd go see Queen without Freddie, it certainly wouldn't be as good, but I still think it'd be awesome.
They still have Brian May, but if he died, then it would be pointless to go

Modestbob 01-12-2005 07:33 PM
Those are King Crimson albums? I've never heard anything except one song, so i'm thinking of looking into more good songs so and hopefully get an album or two. what would anyone suggest for songs/albums?
great Crimson albums:

In The Court Of Crimson King
Lark's Tounge In Aspic
Starless and Bible Black
Red
Three Of A Perfect Pair (its a ok album not there best)
Beat

those are some good ones

I was pretty surprised too, I just kept waiting for this bitch that dressed all hardcore to say something like "OmG dis songs sUx letz liss3n 2 gUd sH4rl0tt3".

gmoneyguy 01-12-2005 07:39 PM

I was expecting Ashly Simpson or some song like that, which they play every other time.

Johnny B. Good 01-12-2005 08:12 PM

Do any of you guys like Jefferson Airplane?

jpj 01-12-2005 08:13 PM

I love Jefferson Airplane.

Johnny B. Good 01-12-2005 08:14 PM

What's your favorite song by them?

jpj 01-12-2005 08:23 PM

White Rabbit without a doubt, I wish it was longer.

We get it at my school, but the teacher I have right now doesn't make us watch it.
such a good song, I like Jane a lot too
They also do Wooden Ships really well too

Woodstock 01-12-2005 08:32 PM

We got Channel 1 in Middle school, not anymore though. I did hear Kashmir played before though, and nobody knew what I was talking about. "I love Led Zeppelin, that guy is awesome!"

Johnny B. Good 01-12-2005 08:57 PM

Did George Harrison or Clapton do the solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"?

Freddie9 01-12-2005 09:18 PM
Did George Harrison or Clapton do the solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"?
clapton

Illmatic 01-12-2005 09:37 PM

Although one urban legend is that Harrison was so humbled by the acclaim for the solo that he credited Clapton, I think Clapton actually did it.

Badmoon 01-12-2005 09:46 PM
I think Bad Co's singer would do a great job, but i think the singer from Foreigner would sound even better.
No way!

1. Freddie Mercury
2. Aretha Franklin
3. Paul Rodgers

Best singers of the 70's.

Illmatic 01-12-2005 10:04 PM

New avatar. Go me.

It (Electric Warrior)'s a terrific album...more people should listen to it and talk about it.

PinkFreud 01-12-2005 10:16 PM
they should have come up with a new name, cause without freddy there is no queen. ill still try and get tickets though, cause john deacon and brian may kick ***.
deacons not touring with them though. and electric warrior IS an excellent album. very odd but its good. and im quite sure that clapton did the solo for while my guitar gently weeps. it has his tone all over it.

I know this discussions probably well and truly past this kind of stuff since i didn't read the whole way through. But nonetheless being one of these 17 year old classic rock fans (well among other things too) I think the reason it's making a revival now is because people who were teenagers in the time of led zeppelin, pink floyd, etc. are now parents. I mean that's how I got in to all of it, now Pink Floyd and Dire Straits are two of my favourite bands.

Bartender 01-12-2005 11:06 PM
great Crimson albums:

Beat
I think that's the first time I've seen someone (other than me) mention Beat as a good King Crimson album. Most people seem to dislike it. But then, I've not often been in here before. Is it generally liked?

At least you like Dire Straits, which is a plus. They're an alright band. I like Down on the Waterline and Sultans of Swing.

ArcLite 01-13-2005 12:15 AM

Ah yes, Dire Straits. My dad got me into them and I love them. Knoffler is a machine on the axe. Goota go with Sultans as my favorite song. Almost got to see them live years back.

i didn't mean best singers...i meant who could do a half decent job singing Freddy Mercury songs. Of course Aretha Franklin can sing way better, but can you imagine her singing We Will Rock You? or Sheer Heart Attack? singing isn't all about the best voice, personality and attitude is involved as well, and Aretha doesn't really have the same persona that is required to play the role of Freddy Mercury. (although they are almost on the same level of femininity)

/cheap shot.

Brothers in Arms is a great album.

Lee Harvey Castro 01-13-2005 11:52 AM

I haven't really got into King Crimson's other stuff, but I'll check those albums out, I was completely blown away upon the first time hearing the album especially 21st century Schizoid Man and the title track, I haven't got that feeling for an album since DSOTM and Trout mask replica.

magicbus 01-13-2005 03:27 PM
I am far from impressed about this "Queen" re-union, that I think is definitely taking place now. They've got the singer from Free on vocals, and I think that John Deacon isn't doing the shows either...I love Queen, but without Freddie Mercury, I don't think it is Queen, period. As you say, basically no-one can sing Queen songs like Mercury, and in terms of stage personality, few people compare, as well.
Paul Rodgers, also of Bad Company.

Lee Harvey Castro 01-13-2005 03:32 PM

They had the singer from Free when they played at the UK music hall of fame thing, but that was probably just a one off.

thickasabrick 01-13-2005 03:50 PM

i think Freddy Mercury probably had the best singing voice in rock music ever. plus he sang more than rock, since rock didn't show off his talent quite as much.

Last night i was renting a movie, and i noticed a movie called Grateful Dawg.. has anyone seen it? i read the back and it sounded like a documentary type thing with Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. I thought it was interesting because it was in the "Drama" section, not the "music, biography, documentary" or other such categories.
