Hey guys, check out my hihat battle entry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik7rlJ-Dsoo
seemed a little stale. i was more of a rudiment solo than anything. basically what i mean is that it wouldn't of been much different had it been played on a drum or counter top.

instead of going for technicality try going for something that sounds nice and incorporates the fact it's on a hi hat.

examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pucu0bYyLI

yeah, these are technical and use a lot of rudiments, but they exploit the fact it's on a hi hat more.

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 11:15 AM

Jezen actually nicked a couple of ideas I was gonna use

Keep us from saying anything.
Can't separate from everything.
And all this really means is
you're one in a crowd
and you're paranoid of every sound.
You're not the friend
you won't miss anyhow.

Jezen 04-16-2008 11:59 AM

Nah I'm not seein her anymore. She was a bit weird. Half the time she is lovely and dresses like a proper woman, the other half the time she's really immature and dresses like a lil' emo.

I got another drum video on the way though..
I just sent my quarterly taxes in...$4200 fed and $1350 to state.
Rather huge suckage!
Heh, well that's quite a bit worse.

Jezen 04-16-2008 12:06 PM

How the hell does Mr Pink afford all this?! He's been through a tragedy and is still giving away drum gear...

Very, very generous.

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 12:11 PM

Guys....will joining a band make me feel more confident about my playing and inspire me?

Just playing music with real people etc etc....

Jezen 04-16-2008 12:12 PM

^^^^
Yes.

On another note, my other drum video is now up in G&M.

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-16-2008 12:15 PM

It sure will RC

an_original_name 04-16-2008 12:17 PM

definitely join a band. join as many bands as you can. the more experience you get playing with different musicians the better.

T

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 12:18 PM

Cool.

Do any of you find you groove better when playing with people (not playalongs but actual musicians)?

Cos I can't groove at all anymore, my timing has gone to sh!t and I'm just really crap....and I've just noticed this has all happened since I've been without a band...

And yes RC. Makes me groove better.

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 12:36 PM

Sweet.

I have 4-5 band oppotunites that I'm gonna go for.

Was thinking about applying to BIMM but I'm not sure.....and neither is my teacher!

an_original_name 04-16-2008 12:40 PM

you should definitely apply for bimm.

T

Jezen 04-16-2008 12:53 PM

No harm in applying. What's the worst that could happen?

(Please don't say "Dr Pepper")

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-16-2008 12:54 PM

Ok I wont.
No harm in applying. What's the worst that could happen?
Well my teacher said that if I apply and fail...think what that'll do to my morale (which as you're probably aware is more than low already!)

He did, however, say that I should apply if I could just go along and not care about whether I got in or not.... if I was to have no emotional attachment to the result then it can't harm me.

But for the most part he doesn't think it's a good idea.

Kind of implies to me that he doesn't think I'll get in lol.

an_original_name 04-16-2008 01:08 PM

expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed.

T

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 01:12 PM

This is true....something I usually live by.

I normally don't give a crap, never put effort into anything. When I was at college doing Media Studies the girls would spend weeks on their presentations, scripting it etc etc. I would perhaps get a rough idea of what I was gonna say (sometimes even what what I was actually gonna talk about lol) then just go infront of the class and....talk.

I'd end up getting higher marks than those who put weeks of time and effort in.

My philosophy was "whatever happens, it'll be fine in the end"

But I just can't do that with drums. Maybe because I DO put so much effort in.....?

Janeway 04-16-2008 01:17 PM

All week I've had this horrific urge to listen to black metal and techno.

Happy Hardcore. =/

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-16-2008 01:19 PM

Happy hardcore stuff sucks balls

Jezen 04-16-2008 01:22 PM

I had a random severe craving for rice pudding, so I went up to the store and bought some :D

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-16-2008 01:23 PM

Dude you cuda just made it. It's easy enough

Retarded Chipple 04-16-2008 01:24 PM

You're probably pregnant

trysthedrummer 04-16-2008 01:26 PM

Chipple how much do you practice a day? or week?

lol, these people who make traffic cops on bbc1 sure do like Fluke...

Jezen 04-16-2008 01:29 PM

How do I make rice pudding? Is it made with rice and cream? I have both of those things.

I mainly use my cream for White Russians though..

trysthedrummer 04-16-2008 01:30 PM
