Just give it time.It took months for Opeth to finally click with me.May not take that long for you, but you never know.
Opeth kinda clicked at first. It toke me a while to get used to the song lengths. Opeth was the first Extreme metal band i had ever heard....i went from System of A Down to Opeth, kind of a big jump. |
Hey I was there. :D I saw them again March 8th at Reds. :thumb:
LOL. I could have been talking to you. I talked to so many people there. |
I was more into classic rock when I first heard Opeth. Afterward, I didn't listen to much classic rock.
|
Classic Rock is a genre I've never really liked.
Before I got into Opeth, I liked Tool, Maiden and Dream Theater and that was about it. |
I've listened to classic rock since I was a small child. It grows on you. Uh huh.
|
I was a classic rock kid too. My dad raised me since infancy on the Beatles, Dylan, the Stones, etc.
|
Not me lol, my mom likes country, so that's what I grew up listening to, I never liked it though.
So I like Opeth now, they definitely grew on me, once I got past the growls, and got into some more metal, they are a great band. I've been listening to Blackwater Park a lot lately. \m/ |

The Beatles will always have special place in my heart no matter how much more I get into metal. I honestly see my self pulling a Metal Guitar within the next 2 years and listen to primarily classic(Opeth will stay in regular rotation though :) ). |
It only took me a week to get into Opeth but I still havent' really gotten in to Dream Theater as much as Opeth.
But anyways, the album that got me into it was Still Life, when this dude in my school let me listen to The Moor, I thought it was an odd band but I progressively got into it and loved it. Whats funny is that I have never seen Still Life in any record store I've stepped foot in, so I had to burn that bad boy cause I really don't feel like ordering it online.
I have very bad luck with that and My arms, your hearse. I've seen all the other releases. They kinda avoid me. :( On a related note, Benighted got me into Opeth, because it's a great finger-picking song, then I read somewhere Black Rose Immortal was the greatest, most epic Death metal song and I got it, then... Circle of tyrants and demon of the fall an so on and so forth. |
I'm not sure what song really clicked with me for Opeth.
|
on the topic of blackwater park (album), all i have to say is one word: wow
today it clicked with me even more and i can't get enough of it. And is it just me or do blackwater park songs have an eerie/haunting sound to them? |
I actually think Blackwater Park is fairly overrated. It has some of my favoruite Opeth songs on it (namely The Lepper Affinity, which is one of my favourite all time songs) but i think its too inconsistant.Harvest,Dirge For November and Patterns In The Ivy are all very average IMO.And The Funeral Portrait has some cool riffs, but gets a bit boring. In saying that though,id be proud as **** if i came up with those songs.
|
I'm listening to Damnation as I'm typing this.

Agreed. Leper Affinity, Bleak, and Harvest all rule, so does a good bit of TDF but then some of the death metal parts bore me...the beginning of Dirge is nice but then metal part is mediocre for Opeth, The Funeral Portrait is also mediocre. Fortunately Patterns in the Ivy/Blackwater Park is the most kickass ending of any Opeth album, but the album doesn't stay strong the whole way through the way I wish it would. Meanwhile, Still Life, which is the other competitor for number one, has hardly any weak spots. |
NP: By The Pain I See In Others

 I love this track.
Me too. It's almost passing Deliverance for my favorite track on that album. I love the creepy circus part in the middle. |
I pray that I'll be seeing them in Birmingham. Does anyone know when the tickets come on sale?
|

Seconded. I NEED tickets. |
I really hope they go on another US tour right after the UK tour.
|

I never really thought it was anything special as a song, though the circus part as the best bit and quite cool. |
My guess is that after the UK dates, they'll take a break for Christmas and then do a mini tour or start work on the new record.

''RISE TO SUBMISSION!!! I'M STILL BENEATH IN THE SOIL!!!'' I love how Akerfeldt put the chorus parts from The Master's Apprentices backwards at the end of that song, the very end. |
Seconded.
I NEED tickets.
They are on sale... I have my ticket... |
Even though I saw Opeth not too long ago I really want them to come back asap to the US (New Orleans especially).
|
