The new Foo Fighters single. "No Way Back" or whatever it's called. Reminds me of late Husker Du, honestly.
I think, especially in the chorus, it sounds a lot like early Green Day.

I TOLD you they were heavily influenced by the Huskers

El Chavez Red 04-24-2006 08:55 PM

Pulp - Common People

Robert Crumb 04-24-2006 09:29 PM

Ladytron
Percee P
Four Tet
Black Dice

Among other stuff. I've had my hands full lately. Full of music. If music was junk, I'd have OD'd.

Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline

The Great Decay 04-24-2006 09:38 PM

Slint
Sun Kil Moon
My Morning Jacket*
Bright Eyes

* I'm still undecided as to whether or not I dig them yet, but I gave them my first listen today.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 04-25-2006 12:38 AM

Ad Astra Per Aspera - Cubic Zirconia (ahh I love this. Sonic Youth/Boredoms/Blood Brothers-ish. the live video they have is cool but untelligible http://www.adastraperaspera.com/video/palmtree.html)
& everything Mars Volta.

Hmm, number 2 and 3 are both grindcore bands, hence why they're so high up there (short songs).

7 PANIC! at the disco 10
8 Calexico 9
9 Andrew Bird 5
10 The Rolling Stones 4
10 The Beautiful South 4

Pretty normal week in terms of the bands I listen to, only a few new ones. I was reviewing Rites of Spring's End on End and had never heard the band before, so I made sure to listen to that one attentively. Listening to Panic! At the Disco to see what all the fuss was, not too impressed. And Andrew Bird's album The Mysterious Production of Eggs is fantastic. If anyone is familiar with his other work, do you have any album recommendations?

Not a bad list. Last.fm was screwy for a good part of the week resulting in a few bands getting overlooked.

Ornery Cephalopod 04-25-2006 04:30 PM

it's 'New Post-Metal Albums Day' for me!:

Jesu - Silver EP
Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway

The Jesu is kinda disappointing, I really only dug one song on it. I'm only partway through the 'Luna, but I'm diggin' it pretty good.

Since it's a promo, I gotta put up with some dude saying "you're listening to Somewhere Along the Highway, etc etc" every once in a while. But I had no idea Cult of Luna was even gonna have a new album soon, so I guess I can't complain.

JonM 04-25-2006 05:17 PM
Must've been a gooood week.
I mean yeah. But I do listen to Bob Marley sober.

It just so happens that this week I wasn't.

Jawbox is the best rock band of the 1990's. Try to dispute this if you want but it's a pretty solid fact.
Jawbreaker, Drive Like Jehu, Nirvana, Kyuss, Afghan Whigs etc... All better.

You forgot the New Radicals.

Little Man being Erased 04-25-2006 08:51 PM

All I've been listening to are all these new albums I got in the last week. What else could I need?

Morrissey - Vauxhall & I
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model
Sleater-Kinney - One Beat
Television - Marquee Moon
The Ponys - Laced with Romance
The Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics
Neil Young - Harvest
Weezer - Pinkerton
The Streets - The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living
Electrelane - The Power Out

The new Streets album is pretty good, not as good as his previous albums, but still good.

asymm 04-25-2006 09:30 PM

Sonic Youth - EVOL
Lungfish - The Unanimous Hour
Sonic Youth - Dirty
Sonic Youth - Goo
Drive Like Jehu - not enough product to judge, and some of their stuff is too quiet/complicated to legit rock out to
That's the way I feel about them too, although the couple of really great songs they have tend to make up for it. Also, Nirvana's best work wasn't in the 90s anyway.
