I haven't heard much about him, but I've heard some songs by a guy named Joe Satriani, and he's REALLY good.

I probably sound like an idiot because I only just recently got into classic rock.

Yeah.

I have 3 of his albums. He is the only Virtuso(sp?) that I like.

Acctually I like a bit of Vai but not Ywngie at all.

Badmoon 11-28-2004 08:36 PM

He's actually very well known and popular. Often looked at as the most talented guitarist ever.

BludgeonySteve 11-28-2004 08:37 PM
Derek > Warren at slide
Yes, but Warren>Derek on regular guitar.

As we have determined about 4 times before: Duane>Dickey>Warren>Derek

;)

BludgeonySteve 11-28-2004 08:41 PM

Ooo, I came up with this joke a while ago...

Why was Eddie Van Halen given the pre-mature Ejaculators's medal of honor?

His wanks last on average 20 seconds!

It needs a bit of work but it's good material eh?

Agreed++

Anyways.......I think I want a slide for my guitar. Mainly to fool around with, but also so I can play Wild Child and In My Time Of Dying.:)
my brother bought me a slide for my birthday last year. its pretty fun, although i am very sloppy with it. i admit that the only song i can play and make it sound good is In My Time of Dying. i've tried some Skynyrd, but my slide always makes too much noises on the other strings too.

How much are slides?

Right now I'm playing In My Time of Dying without a slide, but it still sounds cool.

I bought a pretty nice metal slide on vacation during the summer, I still can't use it properly. I think I'm getting better, but I have that same problem :p

Slides are pretty cheap, if you spend more than $10 you're pretty dumb :D

lunch998 11-28-2004 08:54 PM

Page's solo in In My Time of Dying on the Dvd are amazing, he really played well with the slide.

Here's a slide tip, if you hadn't already known.

Use the slide on either your ring finger (I do) or your pinky.

Pinky: Enables you to use your other fingers to play regularly, but still have the slide as an alternative.

Ring: Gives you a much better push on the strings and is easier to control.

When you push the slide on the strings and you get a twangy noise when you slide, use the remaining fingers to hold them down as back up.

All the Allman's use the slide on their ring to my knowledge.

thickasabrick 11-28-2004 09:00 PM

hey lunch have you read Hammer of the Gods? i bought the Jim Morrison biography by the same author, and i thought it was absolutely amazing. Hammer of the Gods was a bestseller, and is supposed to be much better than the Jim Morrison one. i wanna read it very badly, but im wondering if there is anything in it that i don't already know.

edit- and i use my third (ring) finger for slide.

I definitely found Hammer of the Gods to be a good read, you would probably learn more about Zeppelin. Even if you didn't, it's entertaining to hear all the inside stuff about tour details, certain shows, songs, albums.

Stephen Davis is a great author, I plan to check out his other work.

Helpful tips, rep + :thumb:

Now that I think of it, I spent $12 on my slide... ****, there's some irony.

Badmoon 11-28-2004 09:09 PM

Thanks :)

I've been lookign for this Robert Johnson slide I saw in a magazine. It is Gold (surely not real), and just looks like a really good, solid slide.

awesome, i will probably end up getting it. I wasn't a big fan of Jim Morrison before i read that bio, i just bought it because i took my sister to the mall, and i didn't realize she intended on shopping for hours, so i just bought that book and read it for a few hours on a bench. by the end, i was obsessed with Jim Morrison, i've read it several times over.

OK folks, I've heard a lot about the Grateful Dead, but I've not heard any (don't hit me!) and I'd like to get into their stuff. But theres so much to choose from, so I'd like your opinions and reccomendations, cheers.

Badmoon 11-29-2004 07:28 AM

Buy American Beauty. It's the starting point for all new Grateful Dead fans.

Could you post a pic of your slide? I'd like to see it. :)

Badmoon 11-29-2004 03:54 PM

Well, I don't have a digital on me at the moment. And I lost my metal slide, but I still have my glass one. So when I can, yes. :)
