dei 06-27-2008 09:40 PM

How long have you been playing bass?

niobium 06-28-2008 12:17 AM

i shouldn't act like i play music because i don't

i own a bass. i'm terrible.

YDload 06-28-2008 01:01 AM
How long have you been playing bass?
five years. wow, i just realized that.

i was as good as i was going to get after the first year, though. i stopped trying to play faster or more technical, now i just focus on learning songs by ear. also, figuring out how to get a great tone would be nice.

today i learnt "Schaffino" by ATDI. or at least i think i did. cant hear the bass on Acrobatic Tenement, just played some root notes. fun song.

niobium 06-28-2008 01:05 AM
i was as good as i was going to get after the first year, though.
that's how i feel
i stopped trying to play faster or more technical
this is how i should approach practicing

truth. i've been playing for six years and after the first year i didn't really make any progress so eventually i just stopped playing. but recently i've wanted to go back to it for some reason, so i might have to get some new strings and things.

i can't play without a pick.

niobium 06-28-2008 12:03 PM

fingers give texture, man

dei 06-28-2008 12:09 PM

i'll have to work on that.

pixiesfanyo 06-28-2008 02:10 PM

oddly enough i can't play with a pick!

Zmev 06-28-2008 03:10 PM

Same

YDload 06-28-2008 06:36 PM

i cant play with a pick either, but now all my favorite players use them. i just pinch my thumb and index finger together and strum like that if i need a picky sound

dei 06-28-2008 06:49 PM
oddly enough i can't play with a pick!
hm. that's strange.

niobium 06-28-2008 09:28 PM

you are.

123. I've been playing for going on 3 years, and I haven't made a lot of progress since that first year. I stopped taking lessons after playing for maybe 10 months or so, but I've been playing with a band for awhile, which has helped with my sense of rhythm and creativity. I'm not that good, but I'm not terrible and I can usually pick things up if I play them a few times.

I like using picks for most songs, but sometimes I need to use my fingers.

cometuesday 06-28-2008 10:59 PM

i was unaware bass was so prevelent in a & i

YDload 06-28-2008 11:27 PM

none of us will ever play in alt/indie bands because we're not chicks :(

perriwinkle 06-28-2008 11:41 PM

(* Hey whats noonin *)

Interstate 06-29-2008 07:22 AM

Got my pimpmobile Volvo yesterday. Drove it back 100 miles or so to my mates house with no problems. 3litre V6 is awesome & it seems to rinse people at the traffic lights when put in 'overdrive' mode.

Zmev 06-29-2008 03:39 PM

Volvo club

Eaeon 06-29-2008 10:36 PM

I'd love to play bass. If I'm ever good enough, the red hot chili peppers will then need me. Two bass players in one band, it could happen.

niobium 06-29-2008 10:41 PM

i moved out of my girlfriend's house today. i lived there 6 months. moved back to my mom's

i don't think we broke up :S

Time 06-29-2008 11:10 PM

Me and my cousin got to talk to Dr. Know from Bad Brains for a couple minutes on Saturday, it was awesome. I'm jealous though cuz my cousin also got to go backstage at the Butthole Surfers show at 9:30 club and he met all of them.
Volvo club
Indeed.

My friend wants to get privacy glass for it and turn it into a shaggin' wagon.

Got an interview for an administration job at a music company that deals with the licensing/royalties side of the industry.

*prays*

McP3000 06-30-2008 03:23 PM

he said shaggin' wagon

Interstate 06-30-2008 03:59 PM

And...

Jawaharal 06-30-2008 05:25 PM

saw Tom Waits last night and it was sick. He totally redid some songs and his band was dope.

setlist:

Lucinda/Ain't Goin Down to the Well
Way Down in the Hole
Falling Down
Hang Down Your Head
Chocolate Jesus
God's Away on Business
Get Behind the Mule
Metropolitan Glide
Trampled Rose
Cold Cold Ground
The Part You Throw Away
Black Market Baby
Rain Dogs/Russian Dance
On the Nickel
Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis
You can Never Hold Back Spring
Lucky Day
Innocent When You Dream
9th and Hennepin
Lie to Me
Jesus Gonna Be Here
House Where Nobody Lives
Eyeball Kid
Make It Rain

Fannin Street
Come on up to the house

asdf 06-30-2008 06:22 PM

I would pay good money to see him perform only "9th and Hennepin." Sounds like a great show and I am very jealous.

Time 06-30-2008 06:45 PM

Damn that's a pretty long set, I really want to see him but there's no dates near me.

Eaeon 06-30-2008 07:03 PM

I'm seeing him in a couple days.

Jawaharal 06-30-2008 08:34 PM
I would pay good money to see him perform only "9th and Hennepin." Sounds like a great show and I am very jealous.
oh it was amazing. The place was lit up by a single flickering lightbulb above him and the intro to it was great.

other cool things was this foot bell he would stomp on, his signature dust pile he would stomp on, disco ball hat, glitter falling when he screamed Make It RAIN!, and his usual dancing and stories.

Eaeon 06-30-2008 08:40 PM

Ooooh boy I can't wait.
