Im always too impatient when I check out new music.

BurningSky 05-28-2006 08:08 PM

This song is awesome. The drums are a bit meh, but the guitar is great and Mikael's vocals are as good as always...

Killtacular 05-28-2006 08:11 PM

Mmm.... foreign language Åkerfeldt.

Carrionshine 05-28-2006 08:16 PM

It's a shame we cant hear more stuff from this project.

Darkness 05-28-2006 08:30 PM

Wow, really cool song.

The guitar solo rox.

Tyler 05-28-2006 08:41 PM

Great song. I didn't expect anything but, though.

NymphetamineX 05-28-2006 09:01 PM

Wow, that kicked ***. Mikael is pretty much amazing.

Oh yes Ted!

Ted do you have recording set up on your drums?

Kaiwaz 05-29-2006 08:47 AM

Nice guitar solo.

Clunge 05-29-2006 09:02 AM

Aha, I've really really really got into Opeth in the last few months, especially their acoustic bits and I was wondering what other bands there are that play similar-ish music.

Any suggestions welcome really :D.

Sleepy 05-29-2006 09:30 AM

I really can't name a lot that sounds like Opeth...but both Agalloch and Vehemence have some awesome acoustic work.

Shadius 05-29-2006 09:34 AM

I don't really like any other bands that sound like Opeth. A lot of their albums have really poor production and their vocalists arn't that great. They just seem to pale in comparison for me.

I can't name any names, because they've slipped my mind, I think I looked "Agalloch" though.

Shattered_Future 05-29-2006 09:52 AM

Novembers Doom. Especially on The Pale Haunt Departure...amazing album. One of the best by an American band.

Det_Nosnip 05-29-2006 09:58 AM
Oh yes Ted!

No. In fact, I don't even have my DRUMS set up. :( Just moved to Chicago, trying to find a place to store my gear and practice. Unfortunately, I haven't even found a job yet, so I don't know how long it will be. I've been playing alot of Doumbek and piano lately, heh.

BurningSky 05-29-2006 10:33 AM

Check out Pelican, they are an instrumental post-rock/metal band that has some sweet acoustic parts...

They sound more like Opeth than any band that I've ever heard, but they are actually good, too...

Carrionshine 05-29-2006 10:39 AM

Novembre has a Orchid/Morningrise feel to them.

Farmakon is similar to Opeth in their heavy bits.

Cardboard Headgear 05-29-2006 03:01 PM

And then they get funky like there's no tomorrow.

UpperDecker 05-29-2006 04:16 PM

I don't know if anyone else saw this but this site says that Opeth started recording or are starting recording soon for their new album. http://www.funeralportrait.com/index.php?showtopic=66

Feb 27 2005, smart guy. :p

That was last years release, Ghost Reveries.

Shadows 05-29-2006 04:18 PM

Did you look at the dates? That was all in early 2005. They're talking about Ghost Reveries.

JamJar 05-29-2006 04:19 PM

Are you sure that wasn't March last year because it said their 'eighth' album which was GR.

EDIT: Beaten :upset:

The Pale Haunt Departure has it's moments, but certainly nothing close to Opeth.

Jesus Christ 4th Page. This is some kind of record.

I was trying to think of a reason to bump this thread...

And I got it... Opeth are doing a small UK tour in November!!

Oh my fucking god.

Moses 06-02-2006 08:35 PM

How is it that Opeth makes all their solos so memorable?

Because Mikael has an amazing sense of melody?
