Dude, listen to the black album. You dont have to dislike the album because it was popular, because it had very good solos.

But seroiusly, just practice it more, try playing with your amp settings perhaps. Also play along with the song.

Whats wrong with the Nothing Else Matters solo or Unforgiven, Wherever i May Roam?? i agree though. There are better metallica solos then the ones on the black album. But those three are good. Lots is just wah wah abuse.

But I can't stand it, now self-titled. I'll say Unforgiven is the best song after Master of Puppets, and maybe Through The Never...

Ride is my favourite album, every song on that album i love.

The solo's in RTL, Fade To Black, Creeping Death, Fight Fire With Fire, Ktulu; their all fantastic IMO.

Well, that would be subjective to your opinions only. Everyone likes different songs and albums more than others, my personal favourite album is
And Justice for all, Thats my opinion, just because i like it does not mean to say its everyones favourite album.
People need to start respecting other peoples opinions more, I will give you reasons as to why it is my favourite album also:

1. The drumming in AJFA is very challenging so being a drummer i take particular interest in covering songs from the AJFA album

2. The vocals in AJFA I feel are better than any other album, same with the lyrics.

3. Because the album is hard to play I dont often see people covering songs of AJFA Which gives my band a kinda unique feel to it when playing gigs.

Also, If you have not heard AJFA it is worth buying, I buy an album if the band has earned it, And I think the AJFA album is one of several albums by Metallica worth buying. (Just my opinion though) :D

Because Lars and Bob Rock thought that solos were more a think of the past, and that if they used solos it would indicate that they were trying to go back to earlier albums...
Its nothing like any of the rumours i have heard, such as

1. Kirk couldn't write any in time
2. Jaymez wasn't inspired to write solos
3. Kirk Hammett has arthuritis???
4. ... Ahh the list goes on

just a quick question for anyone who knows... the bit in the solo when kirk makes the guitar scream really high pitched. i know he does it by touchiong th estrings against the pickups on the album, but does anyone know how what he does for that bit when playing live? i think its artificial harmonics somewhere low on the neck, but cant work it out!
