I need to work on soloing and pinch harmonics. Those are the most important things right now, that I'm working on.

I'm thinking about learning Nile's Lashed To The Slave Stick :thumb:
I leant that when I was obssessing about Nile about a month ago. It's easy for your left hand but you have to make sure you can get your right to keep steady at 170+, if you can then you'll be fine.
That's a pretty sweet avatar. I headbang like that when I play shows too.
Cool man, I would too but I don't have a band. :upset:
How was you able to get the avi to work on the forums?
It took fucking forever. I had to take a pic of every frame I wanted, crop each size and resize, then save to a different location. I used 11 frames. Then I had to mess around with the amount of colours it used so it didn't exceed the maximum limit for these gheybag forums. (19.5kb)
in the last few days i'm practising a lot of arpeggios... i just love them. f.e.: serrana by Jason Becker...i can play the first 2 beats at 30% of the right speed
I'm not sure what to think of this either, I've heard a ton of recordings of this piece and the amount that were actually any good were: 0. People just don't take the time to get it right before trying to fly through it and post it.
Just wondering, But can anyone here play the COB keyboard solo's? Are they considerd hard, keyboard wise ? ..I wouldnt know because I dont play keyboards and never really did.

There dont seem to be many Keyboardist in this thread.

Then again I may be wrong.
I'm a keyboardist.

I can't play them that great, but they aren't really considored hard at all.

kurrpt 03-03-2006 09:17 AM

good god fellas. Ive came up with a method (seems really gay but works) for tiring out my left hand fingers before i retire for the night. After 3 days of this, my legato has improved up to 40%!!! Like i said, sounds like BS, but i was amazed

Lil’ Bloodred Ridin’ Hood 03-03-2006 09:24 AM

sounds cool but hard DuCran

To all of those who posted on BAM, i'm still trying to get it back up. Hopefully it will be here soon.

Josh!!!! /pounces

How are you?!

kurrpt 03-03-2006 09:39 AM

well, me putting a bunch of tabs would really be a waste, considering how easy it really is. The "routine", for a lack of a better term, really requires more focus then anything.

All I do is isolate each finger, and do hammer-on/pull-offs to the open string. Since im such a technique whore, the finger never goes higher then like 3-4 mm off the fretboard itself. Its really about going as fast as possible, while maintaining that "perfection"

The part you can REALLY tell its working is when you can actually isolate the fatigue to the actual finger. When you start to fatigue, your initial reaction will either be

A: tense up like "fresh fish" on his innagural day at the county jail
B: stop cause you're a pussy

I literally push on until i can't go any longer. When you start to fatigue, you'll notice the "perfection" (accuracy/precision) start to go to hell. This is REALLY where the "routine" starts to show its worth. At this stage is where you really need to challenge yourself, not only physically, but mentally.

Mentally, you have to focus even more so, to allow yourself to stay loose, yet maintain that "perfection"

After i cant go on much longer, ill repeat this with all 4 fingers. I want to actually start this with the right hand (like 8 finger taps) because my technique is getting THAT good

edit : ill actually move this up and down the fret board, all 24 frets.

Let's just say that i've been much, much better. I'm living though, haha.

Good. :)
I was ****ing scared out of my mind when I couldn't get into B.A.M. for the longest time. Ben told me what happened, though. Is there anything we can do?

MRDuCran 03-03-2006 09:45 AM

Kurrpt, can you record something, I'm dying to hear how good you are? Especially since you have all this crazy equipment too.

actually, its funny you ask that

i normally only record with my GNX4. I barely tweak the tone, so people always bitch about the recordings.

I JUST got my SONIC BBE maximizer stomp pedal last night. I am SO adamant about this pedal, and the way it improves my sound, that im thinking about micing my amp again, and give it a college try for the second time.

If i recorded tho, you guys might think its less then amazing. I go for control over speed, and my technique reflects that. Not that i cant do my share of fast runs

Taste_My_Scythe 03-03-2006 09:49 AM

Alright. Don't hesitate to ask, though. :) B.A.M. is just as much the HateCrew Elite's responsibility as it is yours.

Eh, alright. Getting by, you know? Guitar, school, work, taking care of my family (mom is sick, and things fall apart, you know? ) and things like that. And Ben, of course. :p

It's cool man, play what you like, I for one prefer slow controlled stuff as opposed to trying to play Altitudes 20bpm fast than Becker and posting it on here.

kurrpt 03-03-2006 10:01 AM

totally agree...

im not sure why these advancements are all coming now. Seems like i opened a flood gate or something. Must be dedication and patience i would assume.

I hope i can get it sounding right man. Its sounded SICK when i cranked the hell out of it last night. I KNOW the neighbors werent happy

even the version played by jason becker ?

i have seen some versions... and for me they were good.

MRDuCran 03-03-2006 10:05 AM

That time and dedication is definately paying off, if all you do is play slow and controlled for ages, you find you can go crazy without even knowing it, because you've never trying it before, it's quite satisfying.

Jason Becker's version is good yes, I meant recordings made by other people.

kurrpt 03-03-2006 10:49 AM

yea man...

what surprised me, more then just the accuracy, was that with fast legato, my technique remains constant, which was ultimately what i was looking for ya know.

MRDuCran 03-03-2006 11:21 AM

Indeed, stamina and consistency are very important to good technique. Being able to play something well sometimes is only half way there.

repcak 03-03-2006 04:18 PM

do you use/learn (by) books, or do you just play and work on your technique? or do you learn only by lessons you find on the internet?

if you use books, can you recommend me some? would like to work more on my technique, sweep picking, arpeggios and soloing and of course chord-progressions ... metal of course (not blues or rock'n'roll)

SimonCore 03-03-2006 04:33 PM

I find the best way to learn to play accuratley fast is by doing scales over and over then backwards. It worked for me.

MRDuCran 03-03-2006 04:40 PM

I have soo many dam tabs that I've printed off the net, just search in google images "sweep picking", "alternate picking" etc.

But don't ever forget you're going to get nowhere if you don't actually practise it.

repcak 03-03-2006 04:42 PM

since last week i learn arpeggios... but i don't know if i use the right "right-hand-technique" ... on all these videos it looks so different than i do it (slow).

edit:
the best thing would be to see a arpeggio-lesson video where the right hand technique is explained

MRDuCran 03-03-2006 05:40 PM

There's not really a specific position you should be in, watch Jason Becker and then Marty Friedman sweep, they both can do it but they hold their picks way differently. The important thing is getting a smooth transition between notes/strings.

I don't know if you can record yet but it'd be easier to tell from that.

repcak 03-03-2006 05:53 PM

i play arpeggios very slow... i pick every single note; but when i am warmed up, after some hours playing guitar, i try to play it fast and smooth as in the videos, but then it sounds sloppy.

MRDuCran 03-03-2006 06:19 PM

Then stop trying to play it fast.
