Do you have The Act Of Depression? It's pretty damn close to black metal.

You want another genre? Popcore, pop-punk with a small hardcore influence. That accounts for the screaming and occasional heavy part.
wouldnt that be like screamo well I dont know senses fail could fit in that category or hawthorne hieghts

Bad Blood 06-29-2005 11:27 AM
Quality. Who were you last time, Benbenben?
Yeah! i prefer this name though, so i'll just stick with this one.
Me ?

Nah, only TCOT.

I quite like it actualy.

A Subtle Dagger is one of my favourite songs of all time and TIOS is one of my favourite albums ever too.
Nah, that was to US Dan. I love "A Subtle Dagger" and that album is also one of my favorites. I love "The Red Death," "Betrayal Is A Symptom" and "Deadbolt" too.

I do, but you're comparing a small introduction release to an evolving band that's either changed it sound because they sold out, or changed it sound because they got bored..

It's hard to even compensate between Underoath and black metal. Typically high-pitched screaming vocals, tremolo picked guitars lacking bass and emphasising treble, and blastbeats. I just don't even put it in the same catergory when I hear it.

Nah, those bands are pop-punk too. Screamo and emo are genres that have been warped by the media.

Understanding In a Crash 06-29-2005 11:28 AM

Genre fight's never win, *kisses Chris on the cheek*

*wonders why he got banned*

Angry Balled Fists! 06-29-2005 11:29 AM

I want to get into a bit more hardcore-ey type bands.

The Roddick - Grosjean match is great

Obviously they've lost every hint of black metal in their music.

Angry Balled Fists! 06-29-2005 11:36 AM

haha, take a guess

Understanding In a Crash 06-29-2005 11:36 AM

Black Metal is pretty oldschool in my mind and normally isn't used to determinate a band. The first wave of black metal had alot of similarities with Thrash in terms of musicianship. In terms Raw (Also considered Real) Black Metal is very monotonous, unmelodic, with very bad production, and cheaply printed releases. If you loved Death metal it seemed only second nature Black Metal would be. There are various less-widespread forms of Black Metal, such as a mixing BM with other styles (Doom, Power, Speed, etc), but it would take too much time to go into such details.

Basically the way I used to see it
First Wave of Black Metal: (early) Bathory
Second Wave of BM: Darkthrone, Burzum
Black Metal: Darkthrone, Nargaroth
Raw Black Metal: ...Aaaarrghh...,Hate Forest
Symphonic BM: Dimmu Borgir
Death/Black Metal: Belphegor, (early) Naglfar (Swe)

He's 100% right

xcbmetalcorex 06-29-2005 11:39 AM

Yes, he was. Other bands would be The Used, Saosin, Finch, Matchbook Romance, etc.

Dan, you obviously know more about black metal then me but most people I talk to im Hxc/Emo like Buddy and Dfelon call AOD black metal.

PS I got banned for the comment in The Used thread.

Tjebby 06-29-2005 11:39 AM

Haha. Then would popcore be like The Blood Brothers? I'm horrible with genres... I just listen to smart guys, like Chris.

LifesGreatGuy 06-29-2005 11:39 AM

take senses fail 187 for example its pretty soft at the beggining but hes screaming his headoff half way through it that goes for alot of his songs and hawthorne heights i cant think of any one else at the moment

Understanding In a Crash 06-29-2005 11:39 AM

Most screamo and emo is too hard to listen too for commercial music and the day that comes if it ever becomes really popular I hope I'll be dead :upset:

Angry Balled Fists! 06-29-2005 11:39 AM

I still love you daddy :thumb:

I love when people think Black Metal is a bunch of black people playing chugga chugga. :D

People can't take any critisism or jokes anymore.

Tjebby 06-29-2005 11:41 AM

Now that you brought this up I actually see Chris's point.

Just because the fat rhythm guitar player starts screaming his head off mid way into the same just mean's he didn't get sprinkles on his ice cream basically.

PDWAB 06-29-2005 11:42 AM

How come I just now realized how hot Vanessa Carlton is?

Hmmm, I never thought about that. I'd still call them a punk/indie band.

Ganondorf 06-29-2005 11:42 AM

Mastadon are awesome.
