Hot Butter - Popcorn

Y'see, I randomly downloaded an album called Best of Moog: Electronic Pop Hits from the 60's and 70's... and the first song was "Popcorn". It was so ridiculous, that my ICP-ish silly rap-style rapper pals (and I, as their onstage dancer and pseudo-manager) decided right on the spot that we're gonna use it in the middle of their next show for a breather/robo-dance breakdown.

Yet another reason to thank the lord for the wonders of Moog, the monolith of analog synth mastery and other neato things.

But on a more serious note, my true digs include: the new Peeping Tom... and even though I only listened to a couple songs each so far, the new David Gilmour and Southern Rock Opera, my first taste of Drive-By Truckers.

They're neat, all these folks mentioned in this post. Including me, I was mentioned and I'm pretty neat.

Okay, now that I'm giving the Moog album a more thorough listen right now, I just found out that "Midnight Cowboy" by Faith No More is actually a cover of one of these cheesy "electronic pop from the 60's and 70's" songs.

Plus there's some easy-to-recognize songs that were used in recent commercials or are cliche 70's cheesy songs and such.

I can dig it... Dig it like Dig Dug, except without any falling rocks to worry about digging under.

Silver Jews - Bright Flight

Great stuff. Bit boring in comparison to other work, but still so good.

Zappa 04-16-2006 11:43 PM

Don't thank the Lord, thank Robert Moog.

Tangy zizzle 04-16-2006 11:46 PM

Ooh, just listened to the 2 new Bronx songs (from their website. These sound really good. About time they decided to release something again. The world needs punk.

Same dude.

Really old guy, turned water into wine, built analog synths?

Yeah, same dude.

And in spirit of the holiday, I might as well add that he once arose from the grave as a zombie to feast on human brains... all in black and white with some creepy background music played on one of his newfangled "theramins".

YDload 04-17-2006 12:43 AM

Okay the Dog Fashion Disco album Adultery is definitely awesome. Most of the songs are just Bungle/SOAD-like circus metal, but they also threw in "Desert Grave" which is just a straight-up country song. Sort of like how they put "Pogo The Clown" in their last album (a lounge song without any other frills).

The Bronx are totally sweet. I'll have to listen to those songs.

I love that song.
Fantômas - Delirium Cordia

I think this is the first time I've listened to this since around the time it was released. At that time, I'd thought this to be such a challenging album, although now this isn't so. Not quite as good as their first two releases, but a truly unique and interesting album.
Wow. Do you really think so?

I'm giving the new Pearl Jam a listen now. It sounds more energetic than Binaural or Riot Act so far, which is what I was hoping for :D

The quality on some tracks is a bit questionable but perfectly listenable. Still can't understand a damn word Vedder is saying though.

Tapes n Tapes-the loon.

Tangy zizzle 04-17-2006 05:03 PM

Yeah I've only recently started to actually hear their influence in other artists; which shows me actually how good a band they were.

Grippe is a good album isn't Nacho. I might listen to it later.
