HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'll take 2.

In other news, I made some modifications to the bridge and nut on my fretless Strat and strung it up with my old 6-string bass strings. I had to cut the strings way short and even peel off the outer windings for the lower 3 so that they'd fit through the tuners. I strung it up as an octave below a guitar - EADGbe.

The .130 and .100 strings have too low of a tension to even be usable, and there seems to be some strange rattling with the D-string that I'll need to look into as well. Otherwise, it's pretty cool. I'm going to order a few single strings from Circle K with my next string order to try to fix the tension.

The pickups seem to be a bit on the quiet side, although they may just need to be raised.

Wouldn't you have to pay to use Selleck's likeness?

FunkMetalBass 02-04-2011 11:19 AM
Like, really?
Yes, really. After browsing through his filmography and list of TV appearances, the only thing I've ever seen is Magnum PI, which is exactly how I recognized him from the picture.

I had no idea that was his name.

fatbandit 02-04-2011 11:19 AM

Probably. I doubt he'd sue a band over printing and selling like 50 shirts D:

It pretty much won't happen anyway hahaha

Convectuoso 02-05-2011 12:26 AM

I tell you what.

It's so fucking easy to apply for a job when you already have one.

So much harder to motivate yourself when you don't have one.

tl;dr
Having a job rules.

fatbandit 02-05-2011 01:25 AM

I was literally just thinking how much having a job sucks :/ It's 7am, it's raining outside, and it's dark, and I have a 50 minute walk before I'm even there, then I have to wander round streets I don't know in a scabby area for 4 hours in the rain too. Just why?

gaslight 02-05-2011 07:41 AM

Dude that sounds like a fucking shit job mate

fatbandit 02-05-2011 09:22 AM

I wish I got paid less, then it would be easier to justify quitting for another job! :p I got very soggy today though D: It's not the worst job in the world I guess.

So in America, do you all have a postbox at the end of your drive, and have to go and get your post from it?

gaslight 02-05-2011 09:23 AM

So your job is like, mailman?

For my house, my letterbox is about a ten metre walk from the front door.

BenJammin 02-05-2011 10:26 AM

Some places do. Some places have mail 'stations' so-to-speak, that house the mail for 36-48 people in a commonly accessible location.

fatbandit 02-05-2011 10:28 AM

Yeah boiii I'm a postman. All English houses have a letterbox in the door, so you have to walk up everyone's drives. Sucks. Been delivering to council maisonettes today. They all have stairs that smell of wee, and angry dogs behind the letterbox :(

gaslight 02-05-2011 10:35 AM

Sounds dreadful.

fatbandit 02-05-2011 10:50 AM

well it pays decent. i reckon i make about 14 AUD per hour, roughly. saved you doing the conversion and everything there ;D

gaslight 02-05-2011 11:24 AM

If you get plenty of hours that's okay I guess :). Plus free exercise.

Convectuoso 02-05-2011 12:14 PM

Doesn't Ryan get like 19/20AUD an hour for working at a Pet Store?

gaslight 02-05-2011 12:35 PM

Yeah that's pretty standard. I make $22/hour at a supermarket, but you have to adjust for cost of living differences between countries etc.

fatbandit 02-05-2011 12:57 PM

Well to put it into context, on a 25 hour week, I was earning more than my ex was on her 40 hour week, and she was earning more than minimum wage. It's hardly an earth shattering wage, but for a 20ish hour week in an unskilled job, that's really good pay. But I think things may well be cheaper here because we don't have to import EVERYTHING from the other side of the globe D:

And it's free exercise, but I've somehow put 3 stone on in two years o_O

gaslight 02-05-2011 07:26 PM

Let's do some figuring out :).

What would the ballpark price be for say, a loaf of bread? Two litres of milk?

Convectuoso 02-05-2011 10:30 PM

Lol apparently I make 12AUD an hour plus bonuses. Motherfucker.

Hopefully I get this new job which is about 34,160.58 AUD and a better job and better perks. Woot.

Anyway.

My Fender Pro Junior got delivered today. This thing has two controls, volume and tone. The cleans sound amazing. Haven't cranked it yet because it only has one volume and for 15 watts this mother fucker gets loud.

But it's amazing what you can do with two knobs, a knock off Telecaster and sheer will power.

What are everyone else's indulgent music buys of the past few months?

At the end of our drive? Is that like a driveway? Or do you mean at the end of the road/street/block?

Different communities are different. Some of the newer residential areas have a large box with multiple compartments for 50-100 of the houses, so all mailboxes in the neighborhood are located in one place.

Other, typically older, communities have the mailboxes on the front porch right by the front door, so there is almost no outside travel required.

Occasionally, you get the house with the slit in the front door that mail is passed through. These are rare.

Most commonly, there is a mailbox at the end of the driveway, so it's about a 25-foot walk from the front of the door to the mailbox, and back.

I haven't purchased a single new piece of gear in a while. Probably 6 months ago, I bought that new mic, but after selling my M-Audio device and dropping down to part-time, I haven't been able to record or purchase a new piece of recording equipment to do anything. It's been a rather sad, dry spell on my end, I'm afraid.

I also got new strings back in December, but I'd hardly consider it "indulgent."

gaslight 02-05-2011 11:46 PM

Nothing indulgent for me I'm afraid.

what do you think
Doesn't Ryan get like 19/20AUD an hour for working at a Pet Store?
I get slightly more than that on average because I work weekends a lot, in addition to that I get $20 an hour cash working in a mates coffee shop. So I clean up pretty well.

When I move to Sydney I expect I'll get a little bit more because cost of living there is higher.

Hear that Gaslight? Eh? I'm ACTUALLY MOVING TO SYDNEY FO' RIZZZZZLE! :chug:

gaslight 02-06-2011 02:47 AM

Casual wages in Sydney you're guaranteed $20+ an hour for anything if you're old enough for the top pay bracket, unless it's really shit job but plenty of part time / full timers are more about 16/19 hour.

Nothing. Yet....

I'm really considering buying an HD500. Heard one in the flesh the other day and it's unreal. It'd let me use my Matamp as a dirty channel, and just swap out the pre for an amp sim when I want an actual clean channel, and it has all the effects the M9 has. It can do sooooo much stuff. I just don't want to sell my pedals to be able to afford it.

gaslight 02-06-2011 03:36 AM

I think my next buy is either an Aguilar DB210 in boss tweed or a pair of good headphones. I've been living with only one working earphone in my set.

Interesting, sounds good to me. I'm looking around Randwick/Coogee area, should be down there about mid year. Awesome.

In other news, I have the hots for this Finnish chick at my work:

The girl, not the dog, hurr hurr hurr.

I bought a sick set of cans when I was in Tokyo, I forgot how good listening to music on quality headphones was.

funkyhoney 02-06-2011 06:01 AM

Just realised, again, I'm third in the casual post poll. Lameass.
