Come on, you know that i don't think that if a band doesn't sound like Blink, they aren't pop-punk.
I can hear the pop-punk guitar parts, but it seems much too heavy for pop-punk... |
I know you're smarter than that, I was just pointing out. :p
The screaming may make it sound heavy but the genre they are closest to is pop-punk. I use popcore, short for pop-punk with a small hardcore influence, to account for the screaming and heaviness but whatever. |
Well, ok, but on their myspace they put screamo, which i think could be therm ?
I know, i don't know a lot about hardcore, but to me, if Thrice are melodic hardcore then UnderOAth must definetley be some form of hardcore. |
I'm off for dinner, cya guys
|
Didn't Underoath used to be like Black Metal or actual Hardcore or something until their latest album?
|
I disagree with Thrice being melodic hardcore. And Underoath are definitely not screamo.
Terror are a hardcore band. Do you hear much of that in Underoath? |

Yeah, they're early albums like The Act Of Depression are black metal. |
I didn't say they were hardcore, I've only heard stuff of the newest album which I like, but is obviously very TBS esque.
I just heard around that their odler stuff was hardcore. EDIT: oh, seen your post, sorted :D |

Sup fellow gangster. Get more people to join. |
I'm confused with this whole Gangester business.
But my revival of the thread seemed to work. |

I have The Changing of the times, is that one of their earlier pieces of work ?
|
Hardcore still has vocals that you can understand. Heavy Metal is basically all just screaming.
Hardcore has more breakdowns then Heavy Metal does. |
Dan, when will the PPOTM finish?
|
Ohhhhhh, you're listening to The Changing Of Times. That explains it. TCOT is a metalcore album, which is a combination of metal and hardcore. Converge is metalcore. Their newest album is what I was talking about with the pop-punk.
And to your other post, hardcore is faster, heavier punk. Heavy metal is metal. They're very different |
I don't get any music video channels.
Underoath is pop-punk.
WTF? How can you even compare UO with bands like Blink 182. Underoath used to be Christian Melodic Hardcore... Now they are more fitting to the same genres bands like FATA and Alexisonfire fit in. It's basically a band that fit's the scene to make EMO/Pop-punk kids to look really rough and rugged now. |
A) They were never hardcore.
B) Christian is not a genre C) They went from black metal to metalcore D) They're pop-punk, get over it. |
Please humor me by telling me how they are pop-punk now..
|
I went over it on the last page.
|
To the untrained ear they do sound kinda similar though. But yeah, UnderoAth are pretty average.
|

i got banned last time for doing so :p but... in the process of |
Quality. Who were you last time, Benbenben?
|
Sure they could have pop-punk influences but to reconcile bands like Greenday, Blink 182, The Offspring, etc. to Underoath in the same catergory is that a bit over the top?
Christian may not be a label but it's definitely an influence over music whether it's lyrically or musically. Black metal... I don't see how that's even possible seeing how it seems like Venom and Underoath have barely any identicals at all. I don't think that UO is playing 32nd's over 16th's which is what Black metal usually seperates itself from Thrash with. Bands that I've always known for being Black metal and sometimes the ancestors are bands like Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, the Black Legions, Bathory, and Immortal Celius. |

Do you have The Act Of Depression? It's pretty damn close to black metal.
You want another genre? Popcore, pop-punk with a small hardcore influence. That accounts for the screaming and occasional heavy part. |
Dan, when will the PPOTM finish?
Nominations will finish at the end of the month. |
so, we have 2 days left.
