Flammed lol.
I like those bands but I don't even listen to them at all any more. idk I'm too evolved and am buying into Jared's elitist as **** mentality. |

Oh noes, the burns!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I dont listen to those bands as much as I used to either, but I still enjoy them a lot. |
Muse is seriously the only one of those I've ever liked. I guess I never went through a 13 year old who thinks they're into some serious music phase.

You went straight to manly bands like Suma. |
More like clouddead.
Ugh....they'd be good.....if it weren't for Doseone's voice.
More or less.
What do you think about Jel?
Can't say I've heard any of his solo stuff, but I like what he's done with Subtle.
The ascent of Everest is cool.
They're cool until you listen to How Lonely Sits The City all the way through and then realize that it could have been made by like 500 other bands and you wouldn't notice the difference.
Yeah, but that's quite a recurrent issue with Post Rock. :(
Pretty much. I was just trying to think of a unique way of saying they're not unique. Wouldn't it be kind of oxymoronic and **** if I didn't?
Yeah, they are jut not unique. That's why I like Burton Wagner's particular sections, because they sounds very nice and emotional despite the recurrent cliché feel his songs have at times.
The Ascent of Everest is pretty good, but yeah, they're not too original. Although don't they have vocals in some of their songs? That's pretty weird for their style of post-rock.

Burton Wagner is in Ascent of Everest? A unique post rock album is Nels Cline's Destroy All Nels Cline. |
A silver Mt. Zion has vocals. Although the reasoning behind the use of vocals is quite original and nice.
Burton Wagner is in Ascent of Everest?
I was talking about Burton Wagner the band, as a separate subject. |
Eh, most of the GY!BE and their associated side projects bore me.
I love godspeed you.
Me too.
Probably the only decent post rock band. |
F#!aH^g& is awesome. I love super minimalistic ambient etc stuff
Probably why ( ) is my favorite album. |
If you're just going by what most people consider 'post rock' to be.
If you're just going by what most people consider 'post rock' to be.
Yeah, I was actually gonna tack on a little corallary explaining that but I got lazy. |
So instead you channelled the thoughts at lightspeed up highway 45 and right into my brain.
I like minimalistic music like Brian Eno's music for Airports because it's great for sleeping.
Burzum is great for working though. |

Haha, we got dat connection goin bro. |
I like minimalistic stuff like necrophagist.
Yeah, their diminished music isn't grandeur at all.

That nearly made me spit soda into my monitor, thank you. |
you're welcome

Due to the absolute ridiculous amount of post-rock bands out there nowadays and because the genre still is relatively out of the mainstream, there are lots of bands that you guys throw about their names yet I've never heard of them.
Because of this, I think we should all write our top 5 post-rock bands and write a little blurb for each explaining why you like them so much. Post-metal is included, of course. 1. Isis - What is there to say about them? They can meld beautifully crushing riffs and hauntingly gorgeous ambient passages seamlessly, they don't have cliched-lyrics, and Aaron Turner is just as talented a visual artist as he is an aural one. 2. Mouth of the Architect - God I love this band. I don't even know why. All I know is that I've never really been into the more sludgy elements of metal, but this band has converted me. I suppose I love them because even though they operate in the vein of slow evolutions in their sound over a repetitive timeline, it's still so damn interesting. I don't know, I really wish I could say what I love about them so much, but I can't right now. Maybe later. 3. Explosions in the Sky - Granted, their material starts sounding extremely homogenous after a while, but they were the ones who made post-rock music ilke this popular. If I'm happy, there is at least a song in their catalogue that describes that feeling perfectly. I could say the same thing for sad, upset, depressed, longing, etc, I could go on but I won't. The point is they capture emotions in their music so well. 4. We Followed Tigers - Considering how amazing this band is, it's depressing finding out they're so young and on their own separate paths of life. But the material they have released is fantastic. Excellent musicianship can sometimes be hard to find in the genre, but all 3 members of WFT are amazing. They also craft incredible melodies that will make you want to listen again and again. 5. 65daysofstatic - I love the way they meld post-rock with electronic elements and combine it to form mostly really energetic rock. I don't see their shelf-life being that long, but as it is, what they're doing now is a breath of fresh air. Honorable Mentions: Pelican, Russian Circles, Rosetta |
I do not feel like doing that.
1. Austin TV - they are mexican and wear masks and they are cool.
2. The Album Leaf - Into the Blue Again is a pretty decent album, especially since it has so many nice electronic elements that I like, especially in "See in You". 3. Yndi Halda - Excellent, excellent brilliant, powerful music. 4. Ghosts and Vodka - Nice addition of more technical vibe to post rock, I think. 5. Burton Wagner - Nice ambience |

They are really friendly, too. |
Yeah, I wanted to see them about a month ago but I didn't have much money and they were 3rd on the bill of 4 bands, so I figured they'd only play for like 20 minutes (so two songs, laff) and it wouldn't be worth it.
Nepenthe!! Just do it! You're the one with the opinion I'm most interested to hear about this anyways. |
I still do not feel like doing this.
I'm just not sure what all we're considering post rock here.
Music that came after rock.
