how can anyone NOT like rody walker's voice? it's amazing to me that his voice is what turns off a lot of listeners. the "noble huntress of the claaa-aaaan" bit in Limb From Limb is one of the greatest vocal moments in metal history IMO.

Eliminator 03-14-2008 10:41 PM

yeah i love his annoying and whiny voice

natey 03-14-2008 10:44 PM

his voice is like honey on sex
people have different vocal tastes, and some people are turned off by anything that is different then what they generally hear and thus associate with being a "good voice"

shortz 03-14-2008 11:04 PM

I enjoy his voice. I think it's just splendid and it'll only get better with time/age.

On a side note, I think it'd be cool to see a video for Limb From Limb. Something to depict the lyrics to a point in lieu of see a random video. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy their vids very much)

From Protest's new youtube channel - http://youtube.com/watch?v=xjzUXLKRGi4 (Interview outside and inside the Kool Haus.. Did he call the band Prog-Emo? Yup.)

An older one - http://youtube.com/watch?v=84ZU4LkCzzw (He talks about the Wizard of Oz, his desire to be a Family Channel actor, and says a bunch of things that have said elsewhere)

Transient 03-15-2008 11:04 AM

I got my **** in the mail a few days ago. The poster was kind of gay tbh, and deciding to get one size bigger in American shirt sizes (just to make sure it would fit) was a bad idea, it's massive. Luckily, it was a digipak so yay for that.

Tyler 03-15-2008 02:08 PM

That shirt will probably shrink, wash it in warm water.

I know its customary to interview the singer of the band because more often than not they're also the mouthpiece but for once I'd like to see Luke interviewed.

Tyler 03-17-2008 09:20 PM

Luke really doesnt have anything to say. Not to say he's not a really intelligent guy, but he's really subdued and keeps to himself. Arif's the guy who should be interviewed he most to be honest.

Benzilla 03-18-2008 04:56 PM

I'll agree with you on that one, while Rody's humor has its place (I've got the MTV interview "I'M ON CRACK!" moment in mind currently) I think Arif has a bunch of interesting stuff to say that's he's been saving up for the interviewers.

Two random notes:

1. I saw in another interview on Youtube that Rody said that Herman Li said something about them in a Guitar World interview, does anyone know which issue the interview was in?

2. New Guitar World Protest the Blog:

pate 03-18-2008 06:43 PM

I wish dude didn't do the faggy shouting vocals at all.

Tyler 03-18-2008 07:09 PM

Shouting?

You like the music though? I can see you not digging his tone, he's got that younger Geoff Tate thing going but with an intonation that bothers people. Not hearing 'shouting', though.

pate 03-18-2008 07:11 PM

I mean, like the occasional hardcore vocals. I really dig the style he uses for 80% of the album.

The music slays.

Tyler 03-18-2008 07:17 PM

Ah, the screams? Yeah, his screamy shouty stuff leaves a lot to be desired, it's only rarely as high and harsh as I like it. Limb from Limb comes to mind, especially the transition from growl to scream when he says "heed your appeal". I'd prefer if he stuck to cleans and growls but I can't complain, he's still got to figure out where he is as a vocalist and, if anything, tone it down now and again.

Eliminator 03-18-2008 07:21 PM

didnt expect pate to liek

pate 03-18-2008 07:40 PM

You're telling me.

Benzilla 03-18-2008 07:44 PM

I rather like his more deathy vocals. It still amazes me that such vocal power can come out of such a twiggy dude getting drunk in a vocal recording booth.

I'm only about 5'7 and 130 pounds and while he may be a little heavier he isn't too much bigger than I am.

Tyler 03-18-2008 07:47 PM

He's a few inches taller I reckon. He doesn't drink in the studio and whatnot, he's not that irresponsible hah. The smoking and drinking comes after (in between for the smoking).

Eliminator 03-18-2008 07:48 PM

still havent listened to the new album i was going to download it once but the link didnt work so i didnt feel like it tbhg

I don't know, I read in an interview someplace that free alcohol in the booth was one of Rody's favorite parts about tracking vocals for Fortress. I guess I was duped again.

Pretty sure he did for this album. I've read in 2 or 3 interviews where he makes mention of doing so. Something like taking a shot of hard liquor to loosen the vocals chords up.

Tyler 03-19-2008 03:48 PM

Taking a shot isn't the same as getting drunk or "drinking in the booth".

NemesisDivina 03-19-2008 09:39 PM

Bleh, I just realized who was in that PTH myspace picture from so long ago

this one
http://b2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00149/20/74/149254702_l.jpg

I feel dumb now :upset:

Tyler 03-19-2008 09:41 PM

Rasputin ist krieg

NemesisDivina 03-19-2008 09:43 PM

Yeah, he's like a Superman or something. The story of how they had to kill him is crazy.

Dimmu Burger 03-20-2008 07:09 AM

The PTH article in the new Revolver was a good read. He talks about how he likes to be a jerk and make people hate him.
Is it online or what
The one I read was in the printed magazine. I'm not sure if they put Revolver online or not.

Tyler 03-20-2008 10:47 AM

There's one on Revolver's site as well. Doesnt really matter, every interview with him is the same. You're going to get "we like to get really drunk", then "we dont make any money", then he'll name drop some Sikth, Jeff Buckley and Les Miserables, etc.

Dimmu Burger 03-20-2008 10:54 AM

It is rare that you get someone with his personality that is actually intelligent as well. Unless he isn't and the bass player is the intelligent one.

Tyler 03-20-2008 10:59 AM

They're all surprisingly smart dudes, really knowledgeable for guys who spent their last two years of high school touring.

kattunlover69 03-20-2008 12:50 PM

what is that liquid exploding in that guy's mouth cocaine?

"Interviewer: So up next you guys have Silverstein, and that’s hopefully a little nicer weather because it’s farther south.

Rody: Yeah, I’m very excited to get down to Texas and ****."

lol
Rody: Yeah, I’m very excited to get down to Texas and ****."
Since I don't know which curse word is there, I don't know what he is trying to say.

DBlitz 03-21-2008 09:59 AM

Shit

The Feeding 03-21-2008 12:11 PM

I listened to Fortress for about 2 weeks straight when i got it. It's freaking amazing!!! I do enjoy the vocals, i mean he can really sing and i found out in a revolver interview that when he does that falsetto stuff he is actually imitating justin timberlake. If that's true or not remains to be seen. I love the funk like breakdowns and also that guitar piano song inbetween Bone Marrow and Sequoia Throne

djs 03-21-2008 12:20 PM

I love this band. I got Kezia a while ago, but only started listening to it recently and I'm obsessed. I need to pick up Fortress though...

Does anyone else hate the ending to No Stars Over Bethelehem? For a while I thought there was going to be some solo when the guitar came in, but it the song just stops...

Tyler 03-21-2008 02:14 PM

They don't solo ever. The only solos they've ever really had were Moe's drum solos on the EP.

beans 03-21-2008 05:13 PM
They don't solo ever. The only solos they've ever really had were Moe's drum solos on the EP.
im saying that some of the arpeggio stuff they do on fortress sound solo-like, i do agree about the drum solo, but i get the hint of a little soloing on some of their newer stuff
