Get the Live at Grand... their last show. Not only a KICKASS concert..but a memory to remember forever..

nowitzki 11-30-2005 03:32 AM

Live at the GOA is the best. Mexico city is an awesome show but has crappy editing and effects over it. Self titled is good, but doesn't have as much material as the other 2.

Stoo 11-30-2005 07:27 AM

I have all 3. I love them all. The self-titled is good because it gives you a break from just one gig. Shows you footage from everywhere.

Never thought I'd see this thread again.

timmySmi 11-30-2005 08:41 AM

Every time I hear Sleep Know In The Fire it inspires me so much to just pick up my bass and start rockin. :thumb:

nowitzki 11-30-2005 09:57 AM

When I first started playing bass RATM was all I ever played, I was such a huge fan of them at the time and they inspired me so much.

Grunge_Man 12-01-2005 05:48 AM

the first song i ever learnt on guitar was renegades of funk. I dont know where i would be without rage and their amazing musical abilities, such a great band, now lets take a moment to praise god (tom morello)

Stoo 12-01-2005 12:01 PM

Indeed. If you seem him live then you'll realise that.

Kyle 12-01-2005 12:08 PM

Just got back into rage yesterday, havn't listened to them in about half a year. I learnt Killing In The Name on guitar last night which was really fun, what other songs of theirs will be fun to learn?

Stoo 12-01-2005 12:10 PM

Know Your Enemy/Take the Power Back.

Bass_ment 12-01-2005 12:58 PM

The whole s/t album is fun to learn. First album I learned all by ear too. (On Bass)

Kyle 12-01-2005 01:04 PM

yeah, freedom is pretty cool to play. My only problem is I can't get the solos to sound any good because I only have amp effects.

Stoo 12-01-2005 01:08 PM

Yea, I don't have a mutli effects pedal which pretty much rules out all Tom's solos.

Mambuto_O'Mally 01-10-2006 03:50 PM

I've got a question. Does anybody have the Guerilla Radio single? I'd love to hear the live version of Without A Face. That's my favorite song by them.:thumb:

Stoo 01-10-2006 04:29 PM

Hello ancient thread.

Uhm, go to www.funkblast.com

That's Rage bootlegs with rare live songs. Can't remember if it had Without a Face though.

Delta_King 01-10-2006 05:37 PM

Doesnt work man. Must've gotten shut down

Darkness 01-10-2006 07:43 PM

It's not shut down, just click it again, and get rid of the musicanforums.com in the adress.

blue3 01-11-2006 02:07 AM

Yeah the site works. The videos aren't loading though, but I'm pretty sure that's just my computer.

Aaron_Of_Oz 01-11-2006 02:10 AM

RATM are so damn good it's not funny. tom morello is a legend for what he did with his guitar. one of the best rock/metal bands ever

I'm Charming 01-11-2006 03:12 AM

What are everyones favorite RATM songs?

For me I'll go with...

1. Wake Up
2. Killing In The Name
3. Bulls on Parade
4. Sleep Now In The Fire
5. How I could Kill A Man

I enjoy all their albums but Self titled and Battle of LA are the best for me.

Mambuto_O'Mally 01-11-2006 01:11 PM

1. Without A Face
2. Bulls On Parade
3. Freedom
4. Vietnow
5. Township Rebellion

EE's 10th anniversary this year :thumb:

Kyle 01-11-2006 01:17 PM

err 5 favorites are:

1. How Could I Just Kill a Man
2. Take The Power Back
3. Bulls on Parade
4. Maggies Farm
5. Renegades of Funk

/Renegades is my favorite Rage album.

Delta_King 01-11-2006 02:12 PM

1. Know Your Enemy
2. Guerilla Radio
3. Take the Power Back
4. Bombtrack
5. The Ghost of Tom Joad

Have anyone noticed that Morellos solos with Audioslave arent half as good as the ones he did with Rage? Back then he balanced effects with technical ability, now he seems to be content just wanking off a waa pedal

Stoo 01-11-2006 02:22 PM

He still has good solos IMO.

Let's turn this into another list...

What's everyones top 5 Tom solos?

I'll type mine after a think.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2006 02:30 PM

Songs:

Killing In The Name
Calm Like A Bomb
Vietnow
Bullet In The Head
Darkness

Solos:

Darkness
Maria
Bulls On Parade
Bullet In The Head
Know Your Enemy

Stoo 01-11-2006 02:35 PM
Songs:

Killing In The Name
Calm Like A Bomb
Vietnow
Bullet In The Head
Wind Below

Solos:

Maria
Bulls On Parade
Bullet In The Head
Darkness
Know Your Enemy
Very good choice, but if you could choose solos from Rage and Audioslave... would the list be the same?

Top 5: No order.

Bulls On Parade.
Take the Power Back.
Darkness.
Guerilla Radio.
Township Rebellion.

Tom's Audioslave solos are good, but, as you can see from the list, the best Rage solos are Awesome! :p

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2006 02:37 PM

Hmm.... probably.

Like A Stone might be a possibility. Although it's been quite a while since I listened to Audioslave, and I can't quite remember :(

After another listen, I think Darkness deserves a promotion too.

Delta_King 01-11-2006 02:37 PM
Very good choice, but if you could choose solos from Rage and Audioslave... would the list be the same?
Most of the Audioslave stuff just isnt in the same clas IMO, but the solo in Out of Exile is a good un

Stoo 01-11-2006 02:45 PM

That's the problem Tom has with Audioslave, what hasn't he done already with RATM?? ...as far as soloing goes anyway. If you listen to "Drown Me Slowly" from "Out Of Exile" the solo is a mixture of the "Bulls On Parade" scratching and a "Take the Power Back" shred.

He has a harder job because he's trying to combine effects more than he used to.

He also has a harder job trying to please us (the fans), because we're expecting these fcking amazin, extremely original solos. Whereas from you're everyday Metal guitarist, you really only expect shredding.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2006 02:49 PM

I think it is good when he does some more traditional solos every once in a while.

Even with RATM, you could see he used effects more and more as their career went on.

Stoo 01-11-2006 02:51 PM

Yea, 90% of all the shred solos he's done in songs was on the Rage self titeld.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2006 02:53 PM

Yeah. Evil Empire had much more effects, and then BOLA he had loads.

On BOLA you can even see he is using them in the songs a lot more too.

I'm Charming 01-11-2006 03:19 PM

BOLA > Evil Empire

Other then the first three songs on EE, I think it's a little weak.

blue3 01-11-2006 11:09 PM

Revolver is good too. But yeah, I like Battle of LA more than Evil Empire.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2006 11:29 PM

I'm sorry Julianne, but EE > BOLA x100

blue3 01-11-2006 11:34 PM
I'm sorry Julianne, but EE > BOLA x100
No way, Jonono. BOLA > EE x infinity.. Yeah, I so win.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2006 11:41 PM

Don't go there girlfriend.

There is a live version of Without A Face on Live & Rare.

Every RATM fan should have that album. It's awesome.
