When Ringo left the band for a while during the record of the white album, Paul played drums on the song 'Back in the USSR'. The band sent a postcard to Ringo saying 'You are the best drummer in the world. Really.'

Before this was sent, Paul asked John "Do you think Ringo is the best drummer in world?" John responded: "The best drummer in the world?? He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!"

It was while Ringo was out of the band that he wrote Octopus' Garden, which was later to appear on 1969's Abbey Road album. This song was re-worked by George in the studio but Ringo still got credits for it.
Already known, but thanks.

TheSeeker625 03-12-2005 04:15 PM

A friend of mine is performing Let It Be tonight at my school's Coffee House. It should be pretty good.

yes george certainly give him a lot of help
I don't think Ringo came up with that guitar part
For sure. It just wouldn't be the same. With the Beatles, every one had such a cool, distinct personality, that it wouldn't be the Beatles without all of them.
Yea thats why I say the Beatles are the most perfect band of all time. I mean when they left for their solo careers you could tell what was missing from it. Even they way they broke up was perfect, the concert on top of the studio = the best way to go out of all time.

I want to play sitar more than anything. Even banjo.

Your school has a coffee house?

On the subject, is he playing the piano or chords on a guitar..?

Choker 03-12-2005 08:11 PM

Your school has a coffee house? Wow, I wish my school did.

clown_phobia 03-12-2005 09:51 PM

That would just get everyone get dependant on caffeine. It's bad enough as it is.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-12-2005 09:57 PM

Your too heathly and you need an avatar. Or are you to heathly for an avatar? :p

clown_phobia 03-12-2005 10:12 PM

I used to have a John Lennon avatar, and after that I had a George Harrison one.

Glitterati 03-12-2005 10:21 PM

I remember your George avatar, it was a good one.

/worships Harrison.

TheSeeker625 03-12-2005 10:24 PM

He played it about an hour ago, with his friend and his friend's brother. He played bass, his friend played keyboard, and his friend's bro played the chords and solo. They were alright for a group that didn't rehearse a lot.
Our school's coffee house rocked, even the principal jammed. I even got extra credit in English for going.
EDIT: It's a one night thing by the way, it's not like we get Starbuck's all the time. The Art Club makes a mug and for 8 bucks you get one and all the coffeee you want for one night and all the student bands perform while you just chill with your homies.

The "Paul is dead" rumor is very clearly false. I don't know why anyone would still think there's any truth to it. /late

I haven't heard First Rays of the new Rising Sun, so my opinion of Hendrix's later stuff is limited to Band of Gypsies, which I didn't like too much... anyone wanna send me First Rays? /really late

My school has a coffee house thing too. Too bad my school is utter shit, and I wish I still lived in Seattle. Oh well. I should get a band to play the coffee house, and say we're going to play some stupid Green Day song or something so we can get in, and then just do a free form space jam. That would make me plotz.

Walrus Gumboot 03-13-2005 11:34 AM

My school has no coffe to speak of, but it has the best Ag program in the state.

/psyched

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 11:38 AM

Ag program? What's that? /me feels ignorant

I sign up for my next year schedule tomorrow. I'm stoked... two history courses!! I love history.

Agriculture, we have a flock of sheep, a horse, a few cows, a fish farm, a coop of chickens and a greenhouse, and this is all for a public school

Which History courses? I am doing two English for my senior year; Philosophy/AP English and Media Studies

you should say youre gonna play some yellowcard and New found glory covers, and then play "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" or really F***ed up Band version of "Revolution 9". I dont know how you would do it but it would be awesome.

Also, I am a HUUUUUUUUUGE fan of the white album, And a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE fan of The Beatles, and i just wanted to say that in my opinion, "Wild Honey Pie" is probably one of the worst songs written. What do you think?

It's contagious though.

Next year I'm taking...
1) AP English Lit
2) Multivariable Calculus
3) Honors Physics
4) AP US History
5) AP World History
6) Programming
7) Orchestra

Your agriculture class sounds amazing. I'm really jealous. As for the space jam thing... something like Revolution 9 would be awesome, if we could pull it off. I think I'm just going to turn all my effects on, grab a slide, and just do weird slide stuff. Wild Honey Pie was really obnoxious at first, but it definitely grew on me. I love the flamenco part at the end.

TheSeeker625 03-13-2005 12:48 PM

Check out my schedule for 11th grade:
AP English
AP Biology
AP U.S. History
AP Psychology
AP U.S. Government
Social Science Research Seminar
Math B2/Precalculus Honors
French 1-Advanced (The first 3 years of French jammed into one year)

DeusExMachina 03-13-2005 04:42 PM

That's a pretty daunting schedule. I'm a junior right now, and I'm only taking 3 AP's. It would be 4 or 5, but since I moved I need to make up a bunch of credits I missed, which results in taking classes I would've taken earlier instead of other classes. And next year I would take 5 AP's, but none of the AP science classes at my school interest me and my counselor says I should take physics, and there are no more AP math classes for me to take. It sucks. Oh well.

Anyways, back to the subject of The Beatles... can someone provide me a solid answer as to whether or not McCartney is actually doing another tour? And if he is, can someone link me to tour dates?

I don't mind Honey Pie. The only track I don't like is Ob-la-die Ob-la-da

I just checked a couple hours ago, they haven't released the dates yet, but I'm pretty sure there will be one...

Did you take the SATS yesterday morning too? I got the essay about Majority Rule or something, I didn't think it was so bad

Desmond owns a barrow in the market place....

I like Ob La Di.

I think it's catchy, as stated in the CR thread.

Haven't taken the new one yet, but I'm pissed that I have to. I did so well on the old one...

I will perform many many sexual favors to get tickets to the McCartney show.

ultraspamboy 03-13-2005 11:23 PM

I like Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da for being catchy, but I think they should have traveled back in time and released it in maybe 1964. It's just not later Beatles material.

How on earth could someone do Revolution 9 live? I guess you could get like 20 people with microphones to do the vocals and the crowds and then a small orchestra and things and a lot of effects on stuff. People wouldn't get it though, and they'd want it to stop after about two minutes.

That would be so cool to have like an all-the-time school coffeehouse. People need it bad. Everyone is so tired these days. I probably wouldn't go there much though because I don't want to be a caffeine addict, I don't want to blow tons of money on coffee, I don't want to stain my teeth with years of coffee drinking, and I don't want to have to be always running out of class to take a leak.

Sgt._Joker 03-13-2005 11:53 PM

Oasis did a live cover of I am the Walrus with no orcestra or piano, it was pretty ****ing amazing.
Oasis did a live cover of I am the Walrus with no orcestra or piano, it was pretty ****ing amazing.
yeah! I've heard it on the radio, it was great! I really like the part at the end when there's no vocals and they just keep jamming.

Sgt._Joker 03-14-2005 01:21 AM

i got them performing it live on a dvd ;)

clown_phobia 03-14-2005 01:26 AM

I think that live cover was an oasis b-side, and now it's on a b-sides album.

Ob-la-di ob-la-da. I love this song. Its a nice catchy upbeat tune. Everytime i hear the song it makes me want to stand up and do the twist for some reason,

DeusExMachina 03-14-2005 02:13 PM

I don't have much Oasis, but I like what I've heard. Some of it is a bit too repetitive for me, but maybe that's because I only have like 8 or 10 or so songs by them.

Walrus Gumboot 03-14-2005 05:37 PM

Has anyone heard that Lennon/Ono/Zappa/Mothers of Invention recording? I used to have it.. I will have to look for it

DeusExMachina 03-14-2005 05:40 PM

Sounds interesting... not sure how well the combination would work though.
