this is the official jam band thread. Feel free to discuss any of the bands that are classified as jam bands including: The grateful dead, phish, allman bros band, blues traveler, etc.. So quit reading and get to posting. :thumb:
dave matthews band and phish are the best!!! |
All Good's lookin sharp... new additions..Galactic, BK3 (featuring Bill Kreutzmann), Jeff Austin & Brendan Bayuss http://www.allgoodfestival.com/
No overlapping sets, beautiful scenery in the mountains, chill security (from what I hear).. All Good would probably be my ideal fest, shame I can't go. |
just got may 28, 1977 grateful deads new official release
damn tasty so far |
ill have to check it out
the egypt show they came out with last year is so good. i would love to see the dvd... |
First night of Dead tour last night.
Set 1: 01. The Music Never Stopped> 02. Jack Straw 03. Estimated Prophet> 04. He's Gone> 05. Touch Of Grey> 06. I Need A Miracle> 07. Truckin' Set 2: 01. Jam> Shakedown Street> 02. All Along The Watchtower> 03. Caution> 04. Drums> Space> 05. Cosmic Charlie> 06. New Potato Caboose> 07. Help On The Way> Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower 08. Encore: Samson And Delilah Listen here-http://www.archive.org/details/thedead2009-04-12 I'm listening now, some of the jams kind of fall off the tracks (Estimated has a rough section) but for the most part, the show is surprisingly smoking. This tour will be much better than past reunions if this one show is any indication. Admittedly, I have not listened to the whole thing yet, but what I've heard has been good. I also got to catch some pretty sweet concerts this weekend. Dr. Dog on Saturday night who were a really solid show and John Scofield last night who was absolutely mindblowing. Don't miss Scofield if you ever get the chance. The band he's touring with now is on fire. |
That Dead setlist looks pretty smokin' on paper but for some reason it's not streaming on my computer so I'll give it a try again later..
Word is that the show was like 4 hours long with a pretty good amount of Phil singing songs, which sounds pretty good to me.:smoke: |
Honestly, if Phil never song a song ever again I would not care :p
|
I'd rather Phil mainly be singing Dead songs than Bob Weir or anyone else for that matter..
|
is there a download of this set anywhere?
fuck this was the show i almost had tickets to... |
nevrmind i found the downloads on archive.org ( i thought they had stopped hosting bootlegs?)
anyway this must have been an amazing way to spend easter. me and my buddies all woke up from being passed out around a keg in a basement, and first thing we smoked a blunt for jerry that morning. can't wait to hear this show. |
Should be an awesome time, not sure if I can afford it though.
Do any of you cats from the old CR thread (or anyone for that matter) still make jams? Ive been recording a bit mostly for fun but I was curious if you guys have bands or whatnot.
I'm not in a band or anything at the moment but I record ideas and jams all the time. Actually I was at an open jam at this local blues bar a few weeks ago, got up on stage with some 80 year old bluesmen and just improv'd the whole thing. So much fun, being on stage is a trip. So yeah, I dug Lotus. Sorry to hear you didn't get as into it Lunch, but I had a blast. Spiritualize was definitely my highlight for the show, I was waiting for that all night. One of the bouncers caught me smoking a j in the crowd though, kinda a bummer haha. Josh, I've got Tribe's Langerado set from last year, it's probably my favorite show I have of their's. Got it from a torrent (wasn't up on the archive), but I can send it to you if you'd like. Holla back. And Rothbury is gonna be a riot. Very much looking forward to that. |
yeah dude that tribe set would be ****in righteous! can you upload it to mediafire.com maybe? or do you have soulseek?
i can trade you an awesome dead show or somethin... |
The archive allows downloads of audience recordings for the Grateful Dead and is allowing the same for The Dead, although the recordings will be filed under The Dead as opposed to the Grateful Dead. The Dead are selling soundboards online too, which I'll probably buy at least one of but wait a bit to make sure the show I pay for is really spectacular.
I love Bobby and I love him as a singer, but when he sings Jerry tunes he just totally ****s them up. Bobby on Franklin's Tower is just painful, I like how they gave it to Phil the other night and hope he continues to do that one. |
is that warren singin on touch of grey? sounds awesome. and they do a really fresh version of shakedown...
|

Lotus shows have been some of my most favorite live performances. When they're on they really bring the heat. Where'd ya see them at? 2. What's the setlist of that STS9 '08 Langerado show? I have their '07 Langerado show and it's pretty flame too.. 3. Rothbury's going to be EPIC. |
I caught them at the Crofoot in Pontiac on the 1st. Been trying to find a recording of the show, but I've only found one for purchase, so we'll see what happens with that.
Here's the setlist for Langerado '08: Set 1: Tooth Bigs The Rabble Rent One A Day 118 Aimlessly Set 2: EHM Inspire Strikes Back Be Nice Unquestionable Supremacy Hi-Key Instantly Lo Swaga Abcees Moon Socket I tried uploading it to mediafire but it's been messing up. I'll try it again and see if it works. And glad to hear you guys are all gonna be at Rothbury, we should meet up somewhere and freak out. |
you might wanna try megaupload.com
okay which GD show would you rather have, winterland 12-31-72 or filmore west 02-06-70? |
I'm diggin both setlists but I think I'll go for that '70 show. I don't have much live Dead with Workingman's Dead tracks. And megaupload seems to be working, I'll edit the link in here when it's finished.
Hopefully this link will work: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TUKEWHQY |
Grateful Dead 1970-02-06

That Tribe set looks pretty stacked. EHM has been one of my favorite songs I've seen live by them and they don't often play it..
Also, that GD show looks phenomenal. I've always had a love for early Dead shows like late '60s/early '70s. Turn On Your Love Light is a favorite of mine that they used to play in the early days. |
yeah the dead show is very near perfect. the eleven etc jam from friday night has got it all...i am very anxious to hear the tribe set that i missed ... ah, alot of crazy **** happened that week...there were mushrooms growing fresh EVERYWHERE every morning. they are so tasty fresh like that...:D

Tonight's setlist:
Set 1 Cassidy Passenger Pride Of Cucamonga Easy Wind (Warren vocals) Lazy River Road Alabama Getaway (Warren vocals) Big Railroad Blues Set 2 (Mini Acoustic Set) Peggy-O (acoustic) Glory Road (acoustic) A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall (acoustic) Set 3 Jam> Dark Star> King Solomon’s Marbles> Drums> Space> Come Together> Dark Star> Sugar Magnolia (w/ Tipper Gore on Drums) Encore Uncle John’s Band> Ripple Looks like a pretty cool show on paper. If the first two shows are any indication, the setlists will be unpredictable and awesome this tour. |
Tipper Gore? As in Al Gore's wife?
|
yep. apparently they're deadheads.
|
and musicians, apparently
|
That's kinda fuckin weird.. Don't know how I feel about Tipper Gore playing with The Dead.
But I think it's pretty sweet they threw in a mini acoustic set in there. I'll have to give this one a listen for better judgment |
I didn't know how I felt about it either, then I listened to the Sugar Magnolia... Awesome. A little slow-paced at first but they really explode in the jam. Don't think Tipper really contributed anything, but The Dead sound terrific.
|
tipper gore is a bitch from what i know of her. i mean i could be wrong.
so people talkin about a lack of good early dead sets floatin around...i found one just yesterday that is a phenomenal example of early(ish) dead... 3-1-69, filmore west. apparently it is some of the source material for their live/dead album. anyway while im uploading it here is the juicy setlist... 1. Grateful Dead - I: Thats It For The Other One (21:22) 2. Grateful Dead - I: New Potato Caboose (11:42) 3. Grateful Dead - I: Doin That Rag (5:57) 4. Grateful Dead - I: Cosmic Charlie (5:51) 5. Grateful Dead - II: Duprees Diamond Blues (4:47) 6. Grateful Dead - II: Mountains of the Moon (5:04) 7. Grateful Dead - II: Dark Star (23:01) 8. Grateful Dead - II: St Stephen (8:05) 9. Grateful Dead - II: The Eleven (5:47) 10. Grateful Dead - II: Turn On Your Lovelight (23:59) 11. Grateful Dead - II: Hey Jude (7:43) yep thats right a fuckin saucy lovelight and then out of nowhere (somewhere) comes hey jude! good ****. this was the last night of a four night filmore run that many people consider some of the dead's most prime moments. |
Isn't that released in 3 disc set called Live at Fillmore West or something like that? Anyways, great shows. And there's tons of great early dead out there, you just gotta poke around. Audio quality isn't always the best, but there's definitely some pretty good stuff out there. I will upload some **** sometime.

Epitome of early Grateful Dead that I love so much. Early Dead shows will always and forever be my favorite to listen to. I don't want to say they got worse as they progressed over time because that's not necessarily true, but they lost a certain raw element that they only had in the early days. Can't complain with a 23 minute Dark Star into St. Stephen into The Eleven and closing out with a 24 minute Lovelight jammin' on into Hey Jude.. |
robo, all yous guys...upload some shit! doesnt have to be the dead, just good...
and im not sure what my favorite "era" of their music was. for some reason several 78 shows stand out in my head as cream of the crop. |
Ok i uploaded 12-31-72, which is a really great show, check it out if you haven't heard it- http://www.sendspace.com/file/qh61tb. Just take a look at the setlist, it's pretty unbelievable
Set 1 Around And Around Deal Mexicali Blues Brown Eyed Women Box Of Rain Jack Straw Don't Ease Me In Beat It On Down The Line Candyman El Paso Tennessee Jed Playing In The Band Casey Jones Set 2 The Promised Land Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo Big River Sugaree Truckin' -> The Other One -> Drums -> The Other One -> Morning Dew Sugar Magnolia Sing Me Back Home Johnny B. Goode Encore Uncle John's Band One More Saturday Night Highlight of the show is the Truckin' -> The Other One -> Drums -> The Other One -> Morning Dew, which is an hour of truly cosmic playing. Good soundboard quality and goddamn incredible show. Enjoy. |
yeah, that show kicks ass. i love the countdown at the very start of the set. what an amazing way to ring in the new year.
okay 03-01-69 finally(!) uploaded ... http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KGHY4W1W again the setlist:
Grateful Dead - II: Turn On Your Lovelight (23:59) 11. Grateful Dead - II: Hey Jude (7:43)
oh yeah and i will say this a soundboard and it must be remastered or somethin. it sounds amazing. |
Another good early Dead show here, 2/7/69.
Early show: Dark Star> St. Stephen> The Eleven> Turn On Your Love Light Late show: Cryptical Envelopment> Drums> The Other One> Cryptical Envelopment> Death Don't Have No Mercy Alligator> Drums> Drummers' Chant> Jam> China Cat Jam> Jam> Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)> Feedback> And We Bid You Good Night Fairly standard setlist, solid show. The Other One suite is very strong. Enjoy. http://www.sendspace.com/file/o6e4kk |
Yes! This is helping me build mycollection of bootlegs back. I went through a traumatic Hard drive loss.
|
Know how that goes, I've had 5-10 hard drives crash over the past year. Crazy. Such a pain in the *** but somehow I actually didn't lose much and got pretty much everything I lost back. Let me know if you have any requests for shows/albums that you need.

A lot of early Dead is available is surprisingly high quality. While the AUDs are mostly unlistenable, unless you're really feeling brave, the SBDs sound great. 3/1 is a classic set, and be sure to hit the few nights before (2/27, 2/28) and the night after (3/2). They're all pretty similar in songs played and quality but that doesn't mean you shouldn't own them all. If no one has them, I'll upload them sometime. They were released officially but there are perfectly fine sources that circulate which differ from the ones they remastered. Other essentials from 69 include the Avalon run 4/4 - 4/6 and the Ark run 4/21 - 4/23, all ammazing primal Dead.
Bus, is that STS9 set you uploaded the SBD? I have the audience source, which is available on archive. The set is killer though, some of my friends were at Langerado and said they destroyed. Dead sets this tour have been interesting, definitely encouraging. I was hoping they wouldn't fall into a greatest hits type pattern, yet also hoping they wouldn't just throw as many random songs together as they could. These sets appear to offer a nice balance between the two. I haven't listened to them yet though, except for a couple bits of the Greensboro show. I've heard mostly positive reviews, the boys seem to be a lot better than we were expecting. Anyone seen what Panic was up to in Orlando. Sets were killer. Check out panicstream.com if you're interesting. This site not only has current updates and streams available, they offer tons of sendspace links for various Panic shows and have a huge vault of streams available. |
Yeah that Ark run is nice, I was going to upload that but decided on 2/7 instead, don't really know why.
I've listened to quite a bit of Greensboro and all of DC except the encore and it's really much better than I expected. Very strong shows, can't wait to hear the 15th, the 2nd set looks incredible. |
The drum segments are awesome! Billy and Mickey sound like they're hitting it off.
