EEbass04 09-11-2004 12:26 PM

I played a show with Origin...they were horrible just for the record. They're music requires a very acquired taste.

Let me make some easy classifications that make metalcore and hardcore easy to divide.

Metalcore- uses harmony like minor 3rds, and occasionally uses minor 7ths
hardcore-uses minor 7ths

I don't even see how you can think of Every Time I Die and Norma Jean as metalcore. Listen to As I Lay Dying and Unearth. Then put in Norma Jean. I own cd's from all 4 bands. I know who Norma Jean is, I know who Lutikriss is. It's not like I'm trying to classify some band I barely know. I bet you could ask them and they would tell you they're hardcore.

.here comes some more flaming.

BuddyBigsby 09-11-2004 12:33 PM

I'm not going to flame, I'm just going to state a simple fact here.

Hardcore is an offshoot of punk.

Norma Jean don't sound punk to me.
Oh great. Dead is back again to bless us all with his faggotry.
admit it though, my post was correct.

And EEbass04...AILD and Unearth are metalcore, but more on the side of metal than the core. ETID is more of just retarded "noise" and Norma Jean tries to be chaotic but fails, they are metalcore

Metalcore consists of drop D tuning, power chords, riffs, palm muting, and breakdowns. All of which Unearth and AILD use.

NewKindofArmy03 09-11-2004 12:46 PM

i love Unearth's leads, they're so catchy.

Yeah, your post was mostly correct for once. You're still a fucking jackass though.

I never said Unearth and As I Lay Dying weren't metalcore. I was using them as a comparison because they are metalcore. And don't try and pull that "they're only kinda core" stuff. As I Lay Dying uses minor 7ths quite a bit.

Listen to Youth Of Today or Blood For Blood...do you hear any of that in As I Lay Dying or Unearth? No you don't.

Oh, a good Metalcore band I forgot about is American Tragedy. Mmmm.

BuddyBigsby 09-11-2004 02:32 PM

Rip

nothing6 09-11-2004 05:09 PM

there is no way you can think of norma jean as hardcore. Who cares what chords they used and what notes they play. I'm sure country guitar players use that same chord every now and then. Are they hardcore? I think not.

here here. A better way to put it is "Death to overanalysis"

boarderbrendin 09-11-2004 09:08 PM

do any of you know strike anywhere howcome there not in on this?

Let's Chop Cats! 09-11-2004 09:08 PM

Cause they're not really in the genres defined in this thread.

NewKindofArmy03 09-11-2004 09:19 PM

check out this band i just found. http://www.pahardcore.com/bands/bands.cfm?id=8753

shane italian 09-11-2004 09:19 PM

People call Strike Anywhere "melidicore" which I hate seeing because they incorporate little if any hardcore into their music, which gives no meaning to the "core".

I would say they are melodic punk or something along those lines.

Let's Chop Cats! 09-11-2004 09:21 PM

I would just call them the next step in the evolution of punk.

I don't like the vocals all that much. Maybe it's just me, but it seems weird.

maybe, that would be neat.

AndHagan2 09-11-2004 11:15 PM

I hope punk doesnt go to the "next step".
Does anyone know if Devotchka is an actual word? I just finished A Clockwork Orange and it was nadsat (slang) talk for "girl," I think. Did they get it from there or what?
It's Russian for girl.

40 oz 2 freedom 09-12-2004 03:05 PM

Bump.

Let's Chop Cats! 09-12-2004 06:45 PM

For some strange reason I want Earth Crisis to do a reunion show.

shane italian 09-12-2004 07:09 PM

Reiner, no.

Let's Chop Cats! 09-12-2004 07:10 PM

Yes, I don't know why. I like a couple of their songs, even though I hate vegan.

shane italian 09-12-2004 07:18 PM

I heard some stuff from Breed The Killers and wasn't impressed. I mean it doesn't suck balls or anything, but they aren't what they are made out to be.

Let's Chop Cats! 09-12-2004 07:20 PM

They did some pretty cool covers.

Listen to "Smash or be Smashed" thats my favorite and like the only song by them I like thats not a cover.

BuddyBigsby 09-12-2004 07:35 PM

Harvest - "Epicure" is seriously one of the badassiest metalcore songs ever.

cbmartinez 09-13-2004 03:13 PM

Hot Cross/LickGoldenSky tonight guys. I'll give you a quick review tonight or tomorrow. I don't think I'll be able to make it to the Society's Finest/Gods/The Breakout show tomorrow though. :upset:

shane italian 09-13-2004 04:14 PM

I got nothing but I still got friends
I'm ****ing broke but I still make ends
I love my family
And all the friends who stood by me

cbmartinez 09-13-2004 04:19 PM

Turns out I can't go to the show. I'm fucking pissed as hell. But in the next couple months, some pretty cool bands are playing. All Else Failed, Love Is Red, Buried Inside.. so that will be cool.

NewKindofArmy03 09-13-2004 04:21 PM
