happy sad loud quiet crescendo diminuendo clean distorted
that doesn't make a band automatically boring though
it does when they suck at it and repeat it on every album and song!
meh I suppose the fact that every album has the exact same formula is pretty uncool, but I only listen to The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place and All of the Sudden I miss Everyone so it doesn't bother me that much.
75% of all post rock bands follow that formula. EITS isn't the greatest, but they are quite good. Their popularity has just made them the scapegoat of the post rock world, as it goes with all popular bands in a not so popular genre.
Listening to both halves of The Galilean Sattelites at the same time has improved my liking of it by 340%.
This. |
is The Galilean Sattelites an album?
Yes, by Rosetta. I always thought it was just a subpar album, lots of potential but not enough emotion, but listening to the 'music' side with the 'ambient' side instead of just in succession adds an entirely new, incredible dimension to it, and puts the emotion that I thought was lacking into the music.
I've always felt tons of emotion from Rosetta and that's why I like them so much. I was pushing them hard for a while and it seems like there's a direct dichotomy between the people that feel that emotion and love it or don't feel it and find it extremely mediocre. I guess from now on I'll push listening to both parts at the same time. =D
I'm listening to Thee More Shallows' A History Of Sport Fishing and i can hear some definate post-rock influences. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
Listening to them seperately, I could always tell that the general mood of the songs was the same as their counterpart and that they follow similar patterns, but I never realized how perfectly they blended together.
The blog that was posted earlier is a treasure trove; and all on Mediafire, no less.
Thanks much. :) |
I love the Galilean Satellites...............as far as the first disc goes. I listened to the second disc once and haven't had the patience to listen again. I also don't know how I would play them at the same time. THe only problem I have with the first disc is that the vocals tend to have about no emotion. Just that near-toneless screaming. I don't have a problem with it, I just think they could benefit from a little more vocal variation.
I just played the first half in winamp and the second in itunes at the same time. The vocals alone are actually pretty hollow and devoid of emotion, but when coupled with the music behind them are very good. The overall tone isn't great, but he nails the pitch of his screams perfectly with the climate of the song.
I get a lot of emotion from the vocals. More than, say, Isis.
I'd say their screaming is definitely better than Aaron Turner's, but Aaron's cleans (tons of people rag on them, I love them) more than make up for that and add the extra punch. It really makes a big difference when you can have vocals during the softer parts.
Rosetta is one of the most emotionally intense bands I've ever heard, I dunno man.
Yeah exactly. My brother thinks so too.
I don't even have the second disc.
:upset: |
Then you don't even know the half of it.
(Teehee) |
So I'm really digging Russian Circles at the moment. It sounds incredibly full for just guitar, drums and bass, and the melodies are captivating...
I love their drummer.
They're okay.
Enter is good but nothing more
Enter is nice, haven't heard any of their other material.
Enter is great.
I only have Enter...
This thread is in desperate need of some real post rock.
I will deliver. |
They only have one other EP titled "Upper Ninety." It's of the same quality as their LP.
Jake, are you in on this revolution or what?
