i am surprised about VE ... its better than i thought... its not that "great" but its nice to chill out...

Txus 09-25-2006 06:47 PM

Mar De Grises are awesome, best Chilenian (sp?) band I've listened to. Katatonia are one of my favorite bands EVER. Viva is their best effort yet, their old stuff is quite good also...especially Brave Murder Day.
KHANATE Calls It Quits - Sep. 24, 2006

"Extreme doom" metal band KHANATE, the brainchild of Stephen O'Malley
(THORR'S HAMMER, BURNING WITCH, SUNN 0))), LOTUS EATERS) and James Plotkin
(OLD, SCORN, ATOMSMASHER), has disbanded. In a statement, Plotkin writes,
"I have decided to leave KHANATE due to the lack of commitment of certain
members. The decision was a difficult one, as I've put six years and
immeasurable amounts of creativity into the band hoping to take it as far
as possible. The past year has brought about many missed opportunities and
the realization that some players are more concerned with personal careers
and day jobs rather than the advancement of music as an artform.

"I will continue to work with drummer Tim Wyskida on a number of other
projects, mainly KHLYST and our improvisational duo.

"Gratitude to all those that have supported what we have done and
acknowledged our importance in modern music.

"The companion album to 'Capture & Release' is currently being mixed. This
yet untitled work consists of spontaneous recordings made during the 'C&R'
sessions dating back to February 2005. This will be my final work in
KHANATE. There are plans for Japanese issues of the self-titled and
'Things Viral' CDs with expanded packaging and bonus discs with unreleased
material."
I personally like TGCD more, but both albums are excellent. Great lyrics.

Listening to some Mar De Grises now...South American death/doom band. So far, it's pretty good.
the2stranger 09-26-2006 11:40 AM

Sleep is my favorite stoner band. :smoke:

Magicaltroll 09-26-2006 01:11 PM

Hey guys, tell me what you think of my Doom Metal song so far. IT's just the intro part, but I need to know if it's good or not, since I'm entering it in the MX Competition this month.

(my vocals are ****ty, I know, and they're also a ripoff of Electric Wizard basically)

It's called, Addi-what?.

the vocals could be a little louder and maybe a 2nd guitar track? overall its nice...

edit: and mix up the drums... some bass, some snare (i'm not a drummer and don't know how this all is named) - it sounds a little bit like only a metronome....

Pirate Satellite 09-26-2006 01:32 PM

Hey guys, this is actually my first time ever in Rock and Metal.

I'm in the market for music that's more stoner-than-metal stoner metal. Something kind of like Dead Meadows/Black Sabbath. The thing is, I really haven't stepped too deep into the genre at all and don't know much of where to even begin.

Hell, I don't even know if I'm asking this in the right place.

Well, thanks in advance, guys.

Yeah, I got that feeling too :/

But I was going for simplistic, so yeah.

I do plan on making a lead part for the intro though, I just have to find the right guitar tone for it. Thanks for the feedback.

I bought the Jerusalem album the other day

I can see its greatness, but I can't listen all the time you know

Have yet to sit down and listen to the full hour

the2stranger 09-26-2006 03:23 PM

^
And have a nice beer with that ( and a smoke if you do that, I don't do that anymore) You'll have the most awesome time and WILL enjoy it. :)

Even if your vocals are shitty, it sounds nice when they're buried under the guitars like that. Keep going with it.

I know, that's what I thought.

Other people don't like that though. But this isn't their song :p

I'm gonna add more to it later on tonight, or tomorrow morning.

Other people - Give me feedback!

Jondur 09-28-2006 06:05 AM

I'm pretty excited about the Belgium Doom Night:

Reverend Bizarre, Mourning Beloveth, The Gates Of Slumber, Mirror of Deception, Centurion's Ghost, Semlah (ex Count Raven!), The River.

I am going to get absolutely wasted!

I'm glad I got to see them before this happened. At least it's not like one of them died or something, I'd be so pissed if Plotkin died.

By... who?

Black Sabbath?

If so, I don't listen to them much (only heard War Pigs and the other radio songs), but if it sounds a ton like a song already, I'm gonna be really pissed off...

Apocalyptic Raids 09-29-2006 12:53 AM

Man, anyone who hasn't heard Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath is really missing out.

That riff is so damn heavy.

Jondur 09-29-2006 03:55 AM

How the hell can you not of heard Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath?!

Anyway - hear it now. The best riff ever written.

Been digging a fair bit of sleep, just discovered Dragonaut which seems a lot more mellow than jerusalem / dopesmoker

Is Holy Mountain a good album!?

Stoic 09-29-2006 07:05 AM

Other Black Sabbath songs are better than Black Sabbath. My favourite has always been NIB, followed by Electric Funeral and After Forever <3
