Is it true that Let it be album came out after they broke up?

Johnny B. Good 01-27-2005 09:47 PM

yes it's true

clown_phobia 01-27-2005 09:49 PM

Challenge:

Name five Beatles songs in which the first song of the lyrics is a verb.

Johnny B. Good 01-27-2005 09:50 PM

Could you repeat I didn't understand what your saying

gmoneyguy 01-27-2005 09:59 PM

Let it Be is was really meant to be a movie comprised of previously unreleased songs, but they just released it as an album.
Could you repeat I didn't understand what your saying
I'm challenging you to think of 5 beatles songs. Not just any Beatles songs, they have to:

Have lyrics
The first word of the lyrics has to be a verb*
A verb is a doing word.

fobafelia_bassist 01-27-2005 11:59 PM

5 Beatles songs all with the opening word as a verb
1. Help! - Lyrics: "Help! I need somebody..."
2. All My Loving - Lyrics: "Pretend that I'm kissing..."
3. We Can Work It Out - Lyrics: "Try to see it my way..."
4. Eleanor Rigby - Lyrics: "Look at all the lonely people..."
5. Strawberry Fields Forever - Lyrics: "Let me take you down..."

Number 2 (all my loving) is wrong, the song starts with "Close your eyes and i'll kiss u..." which is not the bit u said is actually "I'll pretend that i'm kissing" and that is the start of the 2nd verse,

4. Eleanor Rigby is also wrong its "ahhh look at all the lonely people"

god i sound bitchy sorry!, u were close. now my turn ey.

1. Tell Me Why- "tell me why you cried..."
2. Drive My Car- "Asked a girl what she wanted to be.."
3 A. Doctor Robert- "ring my friend, i said you'd call doctor robert" (i'm not sure what context ring is used in and wether its used as a verb so thats 3A)
3 B. Tommorow Never Knows- "Turn off your mind, Relax and float down stream, it is not dieing, it is not dieing"
4. Lucy In the Sky with Diamond. "Picture yourself in a boat on a river..."
5.Magical Mystery Tour- "(Roll up, roll up for the Magical Mystery tour..)"

oops i nearly got to carried away i nearly put down another 3 but that'd prevent the songs other peeps could add to the list..

Does anyone like Across the Universe? I think it's a fantastic song.

Has anyone heard the version off the world wildlife fund album? The faster, higher one with bird sounds?

Walrus Gumboot 01-28-2005 09:00 AM

I really wish Hey Jude were on CD. And I love Across The Universe. I could have died when I heard it, I almost fell over, and yeas, I have heard that, and I didn't know it was off of a WWF album...
cool.

IAJP 01-28-2005 09:39 AM

Across The Universe is amazing.

Metafive 01-28-2005 10:41 PM

I think A Day in the Life and Tomorrow Never Knows are the only Beatles songs that don't have the title of the song in the lyrics somewhere in the song, know any other ones?

Rubes9492 01-28-2005 11:35 PM

Whats everyone think about George Harrison's sitar playing? I hear that Ravi Shanker said that George Harrison learned it faster then any of his students ever had by far. I love how he incorporated into some of the Beatles songs like Norwegian Wood...Any thoughts?

You may be right. A lot of the time the title is used often in the song.

He was good at incorperating the Sitar into music that Beatles fans would listen to. Compared to an actual Sitar player like Ravi Shankar, or other musicians who play actual Middle Eastern music, he's not that amazing.

ultraspamboy 01-29-2005 12:29 AM

I saw a Ravi Shankar album at this new-agey store in the mall. I didn't have enough money to buy it.

I once briefly considered buying a sitar but decided it wouldn't be worth the hassle of stringing, tuning, and maintaining.

I think "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" didn't have the title anywhere in the song.

Before you flame me, that was a joke.

Illmatic 01-29-2005 12:40 AM

I'll probably get skiinned a live for saying this, but has anyone here listened to The Grey Album?

TerryThorne 01-29-2005 12:43 AM

Is it worth it?
I'll probably get skiinned a live for saying this, but has anyone here listened to The Grey Album?
Grey Album?

Is this the secret third disc of the White Album?

Please tell!

TerryThorne 01-29-2005 01:08 AM

All I heard was that its a mix of the White Album and Jay-Z's black album

ultraspamboy 01-29-2005 01:15 AM

I heard it was overrated.

Danger Mouse took the vocals from Jay-Z's The Black Album and mixed it over tracks from The White Album. I loved it. What More Can I Say, Public Service Announcement, and Change Clothes were improvements over their Black Album counterparts.

Ned 01-29-2005 04:00 AM
That's a whole different story, not the one I was referring to.
Sorry, it's the only story there is.

Ned 01-29-2005 04:08 AM
McCartney did assist him as they played together facing eachother when the two jammed together and McCartney being the better guitarist at the time taught Lennon which enabled the both of them to progress and grow as the band they were to later become. His songwriting improved as he matured as a musician.
If you limit this to guitar playing, it sounds more plausible, but you'd have to take McCartney's word, which is suspect and which became more suspect after Lennon's death (which McCartney took advantage of by changing his anecdotes, knowing Lennon was no longer around to contradict him). The objective facts are these: 1) Lennon had the gig; McCartney did not. 2) Lennon was leader; McCartney was not.

Listen to Beatles records. Lennon makes the guitar groove; McCartney never learned to.

Harrison only studied for six months and a lot of that was simply posture. "Norwegian Wood" was recorded before Harrison met Ravi Shankar, and Harrison was subsequently embarrassed about it. No, Harrison gained from Ravi Shankar a deeper appreciation of the sitar and Indian music in general, not any appreciable playing skill.

And a pretty good one at that. Hey, if you want good authentic recordings of Indian music for cheap, avoid the New Age shops and check out small Indian grocery stores. (It's worked for me at least.)

I've wanted to hear it for ages, but been unable to find a copy... I don't mind Jay-Z as much as other rappers, I think it'd be alright.

clown_phobia 01-29-2005 05:02 AM

the grey album is not an authorised release... is it?
