lol I was thinking yesterday about his emphasis on this

I've been reading about the ego and how behaviour manifests with the subconscious, it would appear to be some kind of unconscious defense mechanism where he asserts his superiority through claims of his internal state residing in happiness, even glee from engaging in these imaginary victories he wages against others. The reasons for why he does it the first place is less clear, though. In my educated opinion he is trying to ward off a kind of anxiety that comes from loneliness, which he would be feeling a lot of if he didn't have the internet to use as a social playground. His ego manifests in cyber bullying with the necessity of filtering out undesirable opinions because he has been unable to resolve the problem of cognitive dissonance throughout his school years, but finally in his early 20's the internet age gives him the sense of control that he can finally berate others for their opinions without fear of retribution. He seems to emphaphise that his online persona and his real life persona are different, although this is all part of the same superego and is a theory that has been arguably discredited.

I didn't need to read a book to tell you that though
