I haven't heard the new Grates album, but At War with the Mystics was a huge letdown. |
Mischief Brew - Bakenal
Erik Petersen - Live on WKDU Erik Petersen - Mirth |

I'm really worried about that too. The Flaming Lips have been one of my favourite bands for nearly 2 years now and I've been too scared of dissapointment to buy the new one. |
Doolittle. Whenever I rediscover this album I fall in love every time. Never gets old.

I enjoyed it immensly.I've been a fan for a few years and I wasn't in anyway let down by the album. |
I may just get both records at the same time tomorrow then. Depends on the price. I'll have to buy the new Flaming Lips eventually, regardless of my feelings towards it. I hope I like it.
I'm heavily digging Xiu Xiu at the moment. |
Granted, I didn't give it much of a chance, but I didn't dig At War with the Mystics. But I'm one of those chaps who only like Yoshimi, so maybe my opinion doesn't count as much. Whatever.
I'm currently listening to Tom Waits' Rain Dogs for the second time ever. I'm diggin' more this time, I guess I wasn't in the right musical mood when I played it before. Anyone have suggestions for the next album of his I should look into? |
AWWTM is a grower.

Besides Rain Dogs, his most popular albums seem to be Swordfishtrombones and Bone Machine, so try one of those out. If you want to hear stuff from his early career pre-swordfish, check out Closing Time, The Heart Of A Saturday Night, or Blue Valentine. I love him. |
I don't think it's possible to not like Tom Waits.

My friend doesn't. He calls him the cookie monster and makes fun of me for liking him. Then again, he also dislikes Johnny Cash. When he first heard his cover of "One" he thought it was joke. So fuck that guy. |
I checked out Tsar today. For some reason I like them, even though I think I probably shouldn't.
|
I am digging the hell out of the new Calexico record. I can't believe it's Calexico, but my first impression is that it is going to become my favorite Calexico record of all.

I had to get over "Cruel" (I didn't like it at first, it's grown on me a little bit), but everything else is pretty cool. |
The second disc of the Nuggets box set
Back From the Grave Vol. 1 The Essential Pebbles Collection Vol. 1 Some great 60's garage rock compilations.
My friend doesn't. He calls him the cookie monster and makes fun of me for liking him.
My brother does that to me all the time. |
That makes me wonder: how come TMV doesnt have hooks when all their songs have choruses? Whatta bunch of weirdos PS did you like any of those songs I sent ya?

Thrice - Artist in Ambulance
A Certain Ratio - Looking for a certain ratio Calexico - A Feast of Wire |
Bomb the Music Industry! still And Swervedriver's Mezcal Head. This stuff rocks.
|
I've listened to Fabulous Muscles 5 times today. I listened to Saetia's A Retrospective twice as well.
|
^ I was listening to Knife Play a lot the last couple of weeks.
But at the moment: The Knife - Silent Shout M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (been wanting to hear an M83 album in full for ages, finally am now, and it's good.) |
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
Straight up indie rock has always been a style that appeals to my mind but not as much to my body. I appreciate it as fully as I do hip hop, reggae, or anything else, but it doesn't move me as much. So I tend to rate indie rock albums, even ones I really enjoy, 4 stars, while records in more visceral styles get 5s. This record is close to a 5. The creative elements that make this stand out above otherwise comparable indie rock records are very visceral and instinctual, and I think that's what indie rock today chronically lacks. |
I've actually been holding off on checking them out, reading that has pursuaded me to do so.
|
Tru dat on the new Calexico. I like the Black Light/Hot Rail style a lot more than their other stuff, but the new one is still quite a nice dig.
Right now I'm diggin' on The Decemberists - The Tain EP. Halfway through, and I already like it more than any one album overall, except for a few random songs here and there. |
Little Man Tate...great indie band with unreal live performance, if your in a band and you want to see how it should be done check them out.
So glad hey been signed now, they will have some money behind them and the chance to fulfill there potential!! |
The Mummies - Death By Unga Bunga
Pretty fun stuff. |
I've actually been holding off on checking them out, reading that has pursuaded me to do so.
The hype surrounding them was pretty sickening, but they're worth a try. "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away" is damn good song and it's a fun album for the most part. However, I don't think the album deserved anywhere near all the praise it got.

Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon
This is pretty good, kind of like an early Pavement lost demo, with better playing and worst singing. |
