Haha, Hoegaarden, and all other witbiers for that matter, are not lagers! They are ales. You people need to stop classifying lager as a specific type of beer. It's only called a lager cause it's made with lager yeast and fermented (lagered) longer. The fact that it's a lager really has not that much to do with how it tastes. Sure the yeast has some to do with it, but it's all about what grains, hops, and adjuncts are used. Witbiers like Hoegaarden have a citrus and spicy flavor. The citrus comes from the orange peel used in brewing them and the spicy flavors come from coriander that is added to witbiers. None of those flavor profiles put together are associated with any other beer style, especially any type of lager.
