Martin Lopez Leaves.........................
:((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( |
Yes, it is sad. I just bought Damnation today and am especially astounded by the drumming!
We will have to see what happens next. |
It wont be for awhile until another album, so you'll have to wait til than. Id say late 07 they're next album will be released.
|
Hmm, I'll listen to it then and see. I always thought Akerfeldt sang all those clean parts :-/
Ah, the Ahhh part :p he sings with Akerfeldt then, heh.
I'm taking a guess......... Is it Masters Apprentices??? |
well, we werent guessing what song it was, I was trying to show them an example of where Steven Wilson sings.
|
Ahh any recommended songs? Maybe worth the look if thier good.
Check out Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Akerfeldt does the backing vocals and it's one of their heavier songs. For some others: Blackest Eyes Trains Lazarus Glass Arm Shattering Halo Always Never She's Moved On That should get you started. ;) |

I assumed it would be in that time period anyway. I prefer when bands wait at least two years in between albums because it gives me more time to make my final decision on their previous album. I wouldn't want the follow-up to Ghost Reveries to come out in late August. One can only wonder what the next one will sound like, though. |
GR was fine, but I really hope the next album is different.
|
Hey I'm just starting to get more deeply into Opeth, though I had already heard them, but only have the album of Damnation. So what other albums do you recomend me to download first?
|
Blackwater park OR Still life
(BWP being my first opeth album, very distinct) And if you havent heard it, Black Rose immortal, The longest song..Ever (Probably longer out there, but wont be as good as opeth) |
OK thanks dude. Can you send me that album please?
|
Hmm i cant upload for **** man...
Try this http://www.slsknet.org/ BEST p2p program for music bar none, Listen to no one else i am right ;) |
Request them in the daily upload.
|
Soulseek will do you mad good. Even though it doesn't work for me...
I'd say go with Blackwater Park, if you're a new Opeth fan. Slightly easier to get into, but it's one of their best... |
The problem with the daily upload is that metaloz isn't sending me anything, and I have post and uploaded things. :(
|
i love deliverance. very relaxing album for some reason
|
Yea but...Deliverance is a really hard album for a new opeth fan to get into
BWP would be best Bleak \m/ (My first opeth song) |

And if you're into heavier stuff (incidentally it was SW's discovery of Opeth that largely inspired him to start putting heavy riffs in his music) check out Futile, So Called Friend, and Mother and Child Divided. |

Still Life or BWP are generally considered the best starter albums. I prefer Still Life, for the reasons that I like the lyrics more (it's a concept album that tells a story), it's more balanced between heavy and light (BWP is much more tilted toward heavy) and it's more consistently good (BWP probably has more high points but also more weak parts) They are the "classic" Opeth sound, and also the best. If you like those two, check out Deliverance and My Arms Your Hearse. Both are heavier than the first two, especially Deliverance, and are somewhat different styles but still in the "classic" Opeth vein. Then check out Morningrise and Orchid, which are a quite different style (although still with the same songwriting formula, of course). Also of course get Ghost Reveries along the way...it is a new era of Opeth (Orchid and MR are the first, MAYH- Deliverance are the second, and arguably Damnation is part of the "new" era as well since it pointed in some of the directions GR turned out to go in. |
Yeah it's longer...but BRI is far more intricate. |
I always hate on BRI when the subject comes up. It just seems amature. The content is great but the writing just seems too skippy.

I would argue the exact opposite, because of the fact they don't really rely on previous riffs. Becauses of that it shows their creativity. Buts that is an arguement that goes no where. NP: Moonlapse Vertigo - Opeth |
