pixiesfanyo 04-10-2006 04:41 AM

I just listened to the first Peeping Tom track.

If the rest of the album is anywhere near as good as this it's going to be one of the best Patton related releases in a long while.

JonM 04-10-2006 10:34 AM
I only have 3 Talib mixtapes/bootlegs, I don't actually have any official albums. But you'll probably be fine with Quality.
I would say go with Reflection Eternal instead. You won't be disappointed.

Keep It Like A Secret is great, what are you talkin about? "Carry The Zero" and "Broken Chairs" rock.

ATM 04-10-2006 08:12 PM

Carry the Zero makes me stop and think every time I hear it.

Anyway, Deftones - White Pony is a lot better then I thought it was.

BillCosby 04-10-2006 08:29 PM

The Beatles - Rubber Soul

More specifically, "Michelle". Oh man.

Little Man being Erased 04-10-2006 08:49 PM

Talking Heads - The Name of This Band is Talking Heads

Again. God, I love it.

YDload 04-10-2006 08:53 PM

I haven't listened to a lot of Deftones, I guess they just bore me. Or maybe Linkin Park has forever ruined the dynamic they use of "choruses consisting of one chord held forever and a scream, with quieter verses in between."

pixiesfanyo 04-10-2006 08:54 PM

Get White Pony and listen to it a few times. It'll eventually grow on you alot.

I know it.

I've been digging Talib Kweli since I found out he's coming here in a week.

pixiesfanyo 04-10-2006 08:58 PM
Maybe I'm fucked but stuff like "Be Quiet and Drive" could almost be a louder version of Ride or something
There is alot of weird genres hidden in the Deftones. It's what has made them acutally last this long I think.

YDload 04-10-2006 09:04 PM

Well hell, I liked the first Korn album when I was in 9th grade, so liking stuff from the founders of nu-metal is definitely not unheard of for me.

However, isn't their song "My Own Summer (Shove It)" similar to Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot?" I mean, there's that one riff and of course the big scream in the chorus.

Robert Crumb 04-10-2006 09:17 PM

Deftones are probably derivative in some ways, especially when it comes to their older material. But I like them. Old habits die hard. I'd posit that they're definitely more versatile than most of their peers, though.

I was listening to the new Morrissey earlier today (another Deftones influence.) It's pretty boring. But I was under the impression Ennio Morricone was dead. So that's nice to know.
