Clapton isn't anywhere close to the world's best guitarist. But if you've heard his unplugged album you'd know that he's one of the best music-writer type guys.

Umm, I need to build my vocabulary :(
Kinda late, but...

I never said he was the greatest, I'm just saying that what he did wouldn't have been the same if someone else was there instead of him. He's my favourite guitarist, but that doesn't make him the best ever.
my favourite doors album is Strange Days. it truly captures the end of the happy go lucky pscychadelic era...the vietnam war is raging, the manson murders, the stabbings at the Stones concert is nearing (truly the end of the psychadelic era). People are realizing the world isn't as wonderful as they thought, and the doors capture that moment perfectly. its really a depressing album, but it is very well written and it could almost be considered a concept album, although the concepts are very subtle.

their first album was more just a collection of songs that they were playing in clubs at the time, they didn't relate to eachother in anyway. They were great songs, but they were basically just a bunch of singles put together. Strange Days was written more as an album, and less as a collection of songs.
YES! I was freakin out because nobody had mentioned Strange Days. I think that's my favorite album. People Are Strange is such a cool song. And I've also noticed how their first album's songs, while all great, don't relate to each other in any way. Strange Days seems to go together, and I love it.

Its kinda like Led Zeppelin I. To me, it seems like a very colorful album, all different types of songs that don't really relate to each other, but are still good. It reminds me of a bunch of colors all thrown together.

Led Zeppelin II, on the other hand, has a very brownish color to it (maybe partly based off the cover). The songs are more gritty and bluesy, not very polished over, and the whole thing seems really muddy to me. Because the songs all have these qualities, they fit together better.

So in ending this rant, we now know that:

a) The Doors : Strange Days :: Led Zeppelin I : Led Zeppelin II

AND

b) I like to associate everything with colors. :thumb:

/rant.

Lol.....so, whats your favorite Floyd album? i'd have to say definately Wish You Were Here. Why? It has the best Floyd songs (Have a Cigar, Welcome to the Machine, Wish You Were Here). The album also has a great sound on the other songs, and the cover of it is pretty crazy.

I also like Dark Side of the Moon (for obvious reasons), and Meddles.....San Tropez is simply amazing.

Probably my favorite three (WYWH, DSOTM, Meddle in that order.) I'm convinced that Wish You Were Here is the greatest album ever produced. Just my opinion.

Syncratic 11-26-2004 01:45 PM

WYWH is great and so is DSOTM, no clear-cut winner there. Also, no one can resist the power of 'The Wall'......anyway, whats your favorite calssic rock solo?

magicbus 11-26-2004 01:53 PM

I respect The Wall for its ability to tell the story through every song. Waters probably had trouble keeping it like that.

Favorite solo, probably Since I've Been Lovin You. The whole song is so emotionally powerful, and when solo hits, its just like *CHILLS*.

Syncratic 11-26-2004 01:55 PM

My favorite has to be the end solo for 'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath, it's about 6:45 into the song.....simply epic.

Illmatic 11-26-2004 02:13 PM

I always loved the guitar solos in "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Can't quite explain why.

Syncratic 11-26-2004 02:16 PM

I never heard them.....guess I'll have to.

unclebobscircus 11-26-2004 02:42 PM

Voodoo Child has the most recognizable guitar intro ever. As for their solos, they weren't Hendrix's best but they were definitely great.

BludgeonySteve 11-26-2004 03:06 PM

What about Smoke On The Water? That's pretty recogniazeable. Voodoo Child is a much better song though.

My favorite Pink Floyd album has to be Wish You Were Here.

I mean, cmon! it's Wish You Were Here. It's awesome! umm

yeah

gmoneyguy 11-26-2004 03:07 PM

Animals, if you disagree well then you suck.

Illmatic 11-26-2004 03:10 PM

Animals was strong lyrically, but was incredibly underwhelming and uninteresting instrumentally.

Broken Arrow 11-26-2004 03:11 PM

I think Morrison Hotel is the best Doors album.:) It is underated. WYWH is also my favourite Floyd album. Why the hell are there so many Door-less people in this thread.

Syncratic 11-26-2004 03:21 PM

The Doors kick ***, are you kidding? Favorite album is 'Strange Days', favorite songs are 'Riders on th Storm' and 'People Are Strange'

gmoneyguy 11-26-2004 03:23 PM
Animals was strong lyrically, but was incredibly underwhelming and uninteresting instrumentally.
Broken Arrow 11-26-2004 03:33 PM

Yeah Sheep is amazing lyrically and instrumaentally.

Woodstock 11-26-2004 03:36 PM

Syncratic 11-26-2004 03:50 PM

Houses of the Holy is a great album, my friend burned it for me and it was the best $2 I ever spent.

unclebobscircus 11-26-2004 03:51 PM
Houses of the Holy is a great album, my friend burned it for me and it was the best $2 I ever spent.
I think it's Zep's best album.

gmoneyguy 11-26-2004 03:51 PM

Your friend didn't give it you for free?

I burn cds for my friends for free the same is vice versa.

unclebobscircus 11-26-2004 04:07 PM
Your friend didn't give it you for free?

None of my friends have it. Really, the only albums I've ever had copied for me are the Doors' 2-disc greatest hits and Jethro Tull - Stand Up.

Badmoon 11-26-2004 04:08 PM

You should jack stuff from his house next time you're over there.

Syncratic 11-26-2004 04:13 PM

Nah, none of my friends do...its either $2 or a blank CD.....that's the way it works here.
