Bye Martin. We'll miss you.

Crysiss 05-14-2006 10:02 PM

Martin did great in Opeth, Will Axe fill in for him permanently?

Darkness 05-14-2006 10:03 PM

He will.

Crysiss 05-14-2006 10:06 PM

Ironic they still have two Martins in the band.

Darkness 05-14-2006 10:07 PM

I wonder how much the population of Sweden is named Martin?

Crysiss 05-14-2006 10:09 PM

30% percent Id say.:p

why do you wonder? haha

gmoneyguy 05-14-2006 10:11 PM
I wonder how much the population of Sweden is named Martin?
Martin Lopez, and Martin Perez aren't really from Sweden. I believe Axernot is.

Crysiss 05-14-2006 10:14 PM

Mendez, not Perez.:)
But yea, you can really tell by the way they talk.

Thresher 05-14-2006 10:37 PM

about the opeth solo's :
#1 Beneath the mire
#2 White cluster
#3 A Fair Judgement ( Last Solo )

penelope weird hands 05-14-2006 10:38 PM

God damn it.
Just read the news. >:/
He will be sorely missed.

I saw Axenrot last month when Opeth came here and, while he was excellent, he basically just replicated most of Lopez' beats.

I really hope he can do something similar, as in style, for their next albums.
I have faith that he'll be really good, but it just won't be the same...

Bye Lopez. :(

Haha yeah, I can't believe I thought It was Perez.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:10 AM

lol, Anyone notice a few riffs from BRI are sort of ripped off?

The little bass thing sounds like Mortal Kombat.

The part at 3 11 sounds like The Cures "A Forest"

Thresher 05-15-2006 12:18 AM
Mikaels last solo in Wreath is one of my favorite Opeth solos.
the begining is actualy crap , though the last 5 seconds are pretty intense :D
Sorry ... but Peter is just better at solo's

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:19 AM

yea, In Your Opinion, Im sure others would disagree.

Thresher 05-15-2006 12:22 AM

bah .... how many times have you seen Opeth live ?

considering the fact that Michael bears the vocals make a GREAT difference ...
but if you take a look at peter ,, hes really putting the edge on his guitar

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:25 AM

And how does it matter how much times Ive seen them live?

Im not going to get into arguing with someone I know nothing about, they could be trolling and you cant get anything across their mind.

Just stop there.

Thresher 05-15-2006 12:25 AM

Though i have to mention that Michael is ALOT more Evil sounding compared to peter ... Mik has the emotion ... the evilness ..
but peter has the precision !!

Thresher 05-15-2006 12:28 AM

heh .. no offenses made . sorry if my english is bad .. im french

merci ..

Crysiss 05-15-2006 12:29 AM

Mikael is main songwriter too.

Thresher 05-15-2006 12:36 AM

you know i really have respect for that guy . the way he writes his stuff ... its just crazy man; how he comes up with these EVIL sounding riffs and everything.
LOL Mik always goes for the disharmony !! why ?? Cause it Sounds GREAT !!

chappo 05-15-2006 01:52 AM

saw opeth at luna park big top about 3 weeks ago and i have to agree with you....mikael has a very evil sounding type of growl but his clean vocals are unbelievable!!!! he sang closure and his voice was so harmonious it was great to listen to....pretty hard to believe that he had such a great clean voice after listening to his awesome growls!!
also...he is hilarious between song changes...im sure anyone who has seen him live you would agree with me..

for example after they performed "the baying of the hounds" he asked if there was anyone who didnt like the song....one person put there hand up and mikael replied with "thats ok thats ok.....everybody....shoot him" bloody hilarious....

Throw The Lepper Affinity solo in there and you have it 100% right my man.:thumb:

 That's awesome.

I barely notice Opeth solos because they fit into the songs so well, but White Cluster has by far the best solo of any Opeth song.

denboy 05-15-2006 09:06 AM

On the topic of the loss of Lopez... Somewhere, I can find positives to it.. Getting a new drummer could help change evolve their sound yet again.. But I really wish it was someone more capable than Axenrot (no offence to the guy, he's probably a great drummer, he just doesn't seem like he's in the same league as Lopez was)

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 10:17 AM

Very much so, and serenity painted death...God that has to be the best song
Ripped from my embrace
Melinda reflected in shafts
Red line round her neck
Met the earth in silence
Whoa..Yes
(Still life is my favorite album, i love the story)

But i have to say the most memorable song by opeth is from my arms your hearse.
April Etheral -
Like a bird of prey over the crest.
And she was swathed in sorrow, as if born within its mask.

Her candlelight snuffed, the icon smiled.

His voice in those lines is so powerful. Its dramatically different from any form he used over the years. It punches you in the face, and you cant help but love it

Edit: I forgot to mention still life also holds my favorite opeth riff of all time
Godheads lament 5:53-6:53 That riff can make you cry or awaken a fury, So passionate

(Opeth rocks :))

Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:16 AM

Im going to have to check that out tred:)

Yea, That part sounds very cool, I always like Mikes riffs.

Hevy Tred 05-15-2006 11:19 AM

Very cool, i love pinpointing the badassery of some of the riffs.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:21 AM

So did anyone notice in Black Rose Immortal that the one riff at 3 11 bears a great similarity to The Cures-A forest vere riff?

gmoneyguy 05-15-2006 11:27 AM

I noticed Opeth has song similar to Rushes YYZ.... I can't remember the exact Opeth Song it reminded me of.

Crysiss 05-15-2006 11:31 AM

It sounds like something Opeth and Dream Theater would write if they had a joint project.

I dont really notice a similarity to any Opeth song in particular though.

EDIT: Haha, check this vid out
