I can't decide whether that's the most amazing or retarded thing I've ever seen.
Anyway, I take back what I said about Convectuoso, Joel. I actually tracked down the Worship and Tribute version, and I've been listening to it loads. Guess I shouldn't base my opinion of it from a live demo with one guitar and no bass D:
How about "Amazingly Retarded"? :p It's fun, regardless. And if everything comes out okay, it'll be a sweet fretless 6-string. :chug: |
Dude, post pics. It was raining last night, so we couldn't see it.
Sorry they're kind of blurry, but you get the idea. Wow, bro. Those are sick. The solstice caused the orange tint? Why is that? **goes off to google**
In other news, I need help naming this glass piece; the name is going to be sand-blasted into the base. I also need help picking two colors to paint it so that I can buy a matching glycerine tube for it. http://i.imgur.com/UDmNp.jpg |

Beaten. I was too busy sleeping and masturbating. But not in that order. |
Man, my Chrissy got better. My bro gave me concert tickets, sweet! And the review from our last gig got posted up. I'll highlight in bold the parts I think are important:
Featuring Beatronica, river.stone.haze, The Boydettes & Howling Rabbits Though many partysoul set foot on Brisbane's party-territory The Valley this past Saturday, only a lucky few witnessed headliner Beatronica perform at The Globe Theatre's “Xmas Extravaganza” benefit night. Opening act “Howling Rabbits” proved to be a feast for ears and eyes. Catchy riffs, psychedelicious soundscapes, hypnotising drumbeats and a charismatic frontman made for an airtight set, mindblowing from end to end. Seeing “The Boydettes” felt like watching your friends’ first band: “It'll be a very long way to the top if you want to rock & roll.” Frenzied, solid rocktunes filled the theatre when River.Stone.Haze entered the stage. Bands like Incubus, Kings of Leon, Disturbed and others came to mind with every note played. By the time Beatronica hit the stage, only a handful stuck around to see the main act. Their musical tools produced a mesmerizing stream of notes, fronted by an elegant Mars Girl. But the band looked a bit turned off by the absence of crowd and though the songs were tight, the performance wasn't.
|
Even better again, not only do I get Cherry Poppin' Daddies tickets, I get Stone Temple Pilots tickets. Awesome.
|
got my new guitar
douglas spad pro from rondo its gorgeous and plays great definitely a good instrument got some new amp and cab vsts in reaper and we're ready to start pumping out the southern rock/industrial again yay also got a seal pup elite tactical knife and a colombia river multitool/LED flashlight which fits nicely in the front pouch of the nylon sheath of the knife |
You've moved to Reaper now then? Our guitarist just got an 8 string from Rondo, and it's pretty awesome. Beats his ESP out of the water, and looks sweet too.
|
Also, call me names, I don't care, but the more I listen to Periphery, the more it's growing on me.

Once you get past Spencer it's pretty sweet. IMO Misha is the one of the only people to get Superior Drums to sound any where near like a natural drummer. Probably bcuz he gets his drummer to play on an electro kit. But either way it doesn't sound completely like the lifeless plastic that I hear outta most SD2.0/DKFH. |
I find music is better when I'm not over-analysing their production. Some of my favourite albums have pretty bad production - As The Roots Undo is definitely a case in point. The drums sound different to the older demos though - snare ghost notes missing and stuff. It sounds better without them though IMO. I think Periphery is pretty plasticy sounding, but... why would you listen to it not expecting that?
And I don't know why Spencer gets all the hate. His screams aren't the worst I've ever heard (he's even verging on understandable!), and his cleans are pretty cool. The top end of his voice is a bit Anthony Green-ish. I can get behind the guy. |
judging a piece of music primarily on its production is a worthless and empty experience.
production is important, but the point of making a piece of music is not to make a piece of music. |
periphery has like one good moment on their album, and its the bridge in OW MY FEELINGS
and spencer ruins it with the worst melody ive ever heard its just like random notes no thoughtful composition nothing interesting just some faggot wailing about something stupid instrumental version is kickass though |
The instrumental version of the album bores me. Were most of the vocal parts pre-written before Spencer joined?
Animals As Leaders, however, I don't really get. |
i didnt say the instrumentals were good
they suck, periphery is a shitty ass band and i dont fucking know, does it matter? it sucks. who cares why. |
oh, okay.
|
My roommate just recently downloaded the instrumental version of the album, I really dig it, especially "The Walk" and "Zyglrox". Not really a big fan of the versions with vocals though.
Animals as leaders is pretty sweet too, but def not to everyone's tastes. |

You're like the kid who said any video game he sucked at was a shitty game...Just let it go already geez. And to FB: Oh yeah it still sounds pretty plasticky, it's still quantized out the wazoo, but that's modern metal for you so it's not even really something you can criticize. But on better speakers it actually does have a pretty sweet low end. Anyways. Yeah he has a good voice (at least I think he does, melodyne makes up for what he probably can't really do) it's just as Raayl said, his random notes get really on your nerves after you listen to the album a few times. |
Things I am in temporary possession of:

I think it's perfectly fair to criticise musicians for not being able to play in time or sing in key. If you need people to fix your best efforts, then you need to practise more. If you're a singer and you can't sing in key properly, you're a bad singer. If you can't play your own song start to finish in one take, then go practise until you can.
Nice tree there :). I'm buying an upright of some kind in the new year. |
Yeah, I've got this one to test the waters with, see if I can hack playing the big bastard. So far, so good. Although I can't actually afford to buy one, so...

Yeah they are pricey :(. I'm going to have to find something for $2500 at the absolute most. |

There's always a spot in the track where I think "that note could have been louder/held one beat longer" or "that run was a little sloppy." Recording is an important time to re-write and perfect things. One time, when attempting to record for my friend Vince, I had written this sweet driving bassline that just grooved. When we got into the studio, the engineer thought the song would sound better significantly faster. Due to the complex string-skipping in my line, I just couldn't play it faster and didn't have time to go back and practice for a week to build up the speed, so I improvised a bassline at the new tempo. After 3 takes, we pieced a few things together and it turned out well. |

I don't care about size, 3/4 is fine with me. If anything I'd prefer it for space and travel considerations. My budget hopefully will include the bass, various pieces of kit - bow, so on, and a few lessons with one of my teachers from uni to get me going and check in with. |

You'd prefer an electric upright or a 3/4 upright? The 3/4 is about a 41" scale and a 4/4 is about a 43.5" scale, so the 3" wont make much of a difference in terms of space saved. However, you might want to look out for what is most common. I see a lot of 3/4 uprights out there, so if you ever plan on upgrading in the future or have to borrow an upright from somebody, you might have a better chance of adapting on-the-fly to the borrowed bass. |
Depends on what's in my price range, I'm not really thinking about one of the bodyless electric uprights if that's what you mean because they tend to sit in the 4G, 5G price range. 3/4 seems the popular choice, and if there's no reason to go for a full size then I won't.
One of my old bass teachers from uni is going to help me shop around for the best deal and he knows everyone in town worth knowing as far as uprights are concerned so I'll end up with something good. |
