I just get angry when people just come in and say that it means the balls of satan, because it really doesn't. It goes along with my pet peave about uber. It's like, if you know you're using it incorrectly and are doing it anyway, then fine. Within the context of Tool's sense of "humor" on that song, it may mean that, but outside of that I really don't think that's a common use of it among German-speaking people.

Dried Muffin Remnants 09-06-2005 07:37 PM
BWP was the song that got me into them and The Drapery Falls made me start to search for them. When I found out the songs came from the same album I was like "I HAVE TO GET THIS ALBUM".
BWP, the song, got me into them too. Bleak, or Lepper Affinity are my favorite songs by them now.

Yeah, I can see that. There's a lot of that ignorance amongst Americans. Since I have more of a grasp on Spanish, I guess I'll use an example for that language.
In English, we say "You're pulling my leg"; in Spanish, they actually say "You're pulling my hair", so if you said "you're pulling my leg" in spanish, in the context of someone giving you a hard time, the Spanish-speaking person would be confused.

Uh, I know it is the right usage. I have family in germany, and I've spoken german since I was 9

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-06-2005 07:41 PM

Well, it could be wrong, but it just made sense to me, because Eggs means testicles in Spanish. Whatever, we'll find out when you talk to your German buds.

I think the title track is my favorite from BWP. The vocals are uber* wicked.
Go Still Life for sure.

Well, after listening to Laterlus a few more times, I have deduced that my favorite is either The Grudge or Triad. I haven't downloaded Ĉmina yet, but I will and I shall let you know what I think.
That's wierd because I don't really like Triad that much. It's cool to listen to but I think it kind of passes by when I listen to it.

/punches the next person that does this in the face.

Ok, I was listening to Deftones' White Pony today and I'm yet again floored by the vocal solo in Knife Party. Every time I hear it I'm just in awe but I'm skeptical because out of all the singers I know (I go to an arts school) only my girlfriend can hit that high of notes, that I've heard (she's a contra soprano). I really doubt that Chino actually did the vocals for that but it really has a Chino-like quality to it. Can someone fill me in on this?

Dried Muffin Remnants 09-06-2005 07:59 PM

Moses, you and your GF should do a Carpenters-like duet.

Otherside 09-06-2005 08:00 PM

Chino did not record that, it was a girl he met on one of their tours that agreed to do some singing. Atleast, that's what I last heard.

Moses 09-06-2005 08:03 PM
Moses, you and your GF should do a Carpenters-like duet.
Huh? I probably know what you're talking about and am just confused, but what do you mean?
Chino did not record that, it was a girl he met on one of their tours that agreed to do some singing. Atleast, that's what I last heard.
How do they replicate it live?

Futuro 09-06-2005 08:06 PM
Chino did not record that, it was a girl he met on one of their tours that agreed to do some singing. Atleast, that's what I last heard.
yeah it does seem like a female voice, but nowadays that doesnt mean anything, just listen too coheed and cambria.

but the story does sound legit.

You should've posted your credentials earlier, you fool. :p I guess I was wrong, sorry everyone.

But like I said, it's the people who think that Eier actually literally translates to "balls" or "testicles" that get on my nerves, not those that realize they are using slang/joking.

The way they do it is weird, but very very cool. That song owns a lot live.

You and your GF are musicians. The Carpenters were musicians. The Carpenters were a duet. Do the math!

I know, I'm a bitch... hehe

And it's only really in this context I would consider Eier to mean balls.. Or "Du hast keine Eier" (most likely completely grammaticly incorrect.. I speak german, I don't speak german well :upset: )

Could anyone upload Knifeparty? I've heard alot of great things about that song.. And I really didn't think Around the fur was all that good of an album, so maybe that song could poke my interest?

Haha.. Did you do this?

Kage 09-06-2005 08:19 PM

Heh...I've never heard anyone use it that way, which is why I was so adamament in my stand. Then again, I've never been in a situation where it would be used. I'm kind of an intermediate German speaker and know more about technicalites and grammar than I do casual use/vocabulary.

I'll upload Knife Prty. It's an amazing song, in my opnion, and the one that got me hooked on Deftones.

Darkness 09-06-2005 08:20 PM

This cover is sheer brilliance.

Futuro 09-06-2005 08:20 PM
Haha.. Did you do this?
i did all the guitar parts and drums and leads and did some of the really scratchy sounding vocals by twitching my vocal chords like a chicken who is dying.

me a my buddy did it all in one night,(like 1 hour)

EDIT: we are doing ohio is for lovers this weekend, i will whore once its done, so be on the look out.

denboy 09-06-2005 08:21 PM

Heh, you're the opposite of me!.. Hehe.. I know loads of german slang from different parts of germany, but I'll be damned if I had to hold an intelligent conversation in german.. I could probably have done it when I was 14, but my language skills have been heavily declining since then

Hopefully I'll go to Germany one day and sharpen my casual lingo there. I still am not fluent in it though, I still have to consider grammar and what sounds right before I say it, although I'm very good at writing and understanding spoken German.

Me.

I'm listening to White Pony right now. It's another one of those albums that I bought, but never really got into. Similair to OK Computer, Kage. Maybe I'll pop it into my truck's CD player so I can absorb it's greatness.
