heres some things i think your fridge needs:

1) sweet baby rays bbq

2) honey mustard

3) SKIM MILK NIGGA GET SWOLE

4) ranch dressing

1) Sweet Baby Ray's sucks. Custom order a bottle from Jasper's Barbeque in Big Bear, CA. Best BBQ sauce I've ever had.

2) This, but get good honey mustard from the deli.

3) I prefer soy milk, myself, but I don't use milk in anything other than my fruit smoothies and the occasional breakfast cereal.

4) Wtf is up with Americans putting Ranch on everything? I just don't get it. I'd, instead, extend my vote off to Frank's Red Hot sauce and A-1 Steak Sauce, as they are tastier, less fattening, and cover 95% of all non-salad situations. A little bit of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, oregano, a touch of vinegar, and cracked peppercorn are a better salad topping alternative.

fatbandit 12-17-2010 01:42 PM

FULL FAT MILK. Gold top if possible. Nom.

Finch split up :( They're my post-hardcore Glassjaw replacements, haha. Can't get into letlive, who seem to be the most obviously active band in that genre at the moment.

I usually censor myself, even when sending text messages. That one slipped through because it was in direct response to "fucking cheese man". :thumb: :thumb:

My friend's father once said, "Curse words are for the uneducated man who has run out of adequate, intelligent words." I guess it's always stuck with me. So if I do use it (in very informal situations), I generally censor it.

Also, the phrase "pardon my French" irritates me. I say, "Pardon my English," because I am, afterall, not speaking French.

BenJammin 12-20-2010 04:47 PM

Lol, my guitar player is gutted about Finch breaking up.

Spaceman Spiff 12-20-2010 05:48 PM

Tracking is almost done for the new EP. Should be done (printed) in about a month. Excitement!

burtonbassist_102 12-21-2010 02:09 AM

Lunar eclipse anyone?

FunkMetalBass 12-21-2010 04:42 PM

Finally had time to poke around in the OLP 5-string that I had. The 3-band EQ is successfully installed and I threw some strings on it. It sounds decent, but it's really lacking in the upper-mid/treble department because the preamp has frequency centers at 40Hz, 400Hz, and 4kHz. I'm a fan of the grind that comes in between 800Hz and 1.2kHz, so I'm going to find a cheap (but decent) set of steel strings to see if they help bring out those frequencies that the nickels don't.

I'm also going to pick up some epoxy in about a half hour and start working on the Brice fretless. I've got about 8 coats of glossy enamel on the front, but the stickers are still protruding slightly, so I suspect it will need about 4 coats of the epoxy to get to where I want. With any luck, I'll have time to route the MM pickup slot in the Squier P-bass and prep it for painting.

I love having a few weeks off from school - it gives me time to finish all of these projects. Whew.

Fair 'nough. I know I'm thinking various curses in my head anyway, and to type all but one letter just doesn't add up in my head seeing as I already know what I'm intending to say, so I just let it fly. Kinda like that huge run-on sentence. damn.

Burton, yes I saw a bit of the eclipse. Pretty cool shit eh?

Joe after all that investment into that thing are you going to keep it or unload it?

Also Zach here's a quiz for you. Your Jazzmaster's bridge has a floating tailpiece, yes? Assuming you have some bits that you play fairly heavy on (and/or heavy whammy use), do you have to jam something in the tailpiece to keep that shit from moving around? I'm having a bit of trouble with that at the mo'.

Also yesterday did some hardcore shredding with some buddies, seeing as Simon's back in town now. When we switched it up and I was playing bass I tore my hands up and it was ridiculous, two layers of skin came off my left middle finger. it was absolutely awesome.

Spaceman Spiff 12-21-2010 06:19 PM

Well, I never actually use the whammy bar, but every once in a while my strings will pop out of their slots. And the answer is I do nothing about it. I just put them back in place when it happens.

Sorry, I know that's not helpful. That's just how I deal with. I suppose you could cram something in there to stop it from happening.

Is that what you mean? Or do you mean that the saddles or whatever are actually moving around? If that's what you mean, then I don't really notice that happening except for when the strings pop out like I said.

What's crackin'?

Whacha been up to while not posting here?

FlamingCouch 12-21-2010 06:32 PM

@ Zach - yeah, the strings pop but also the little screws that you'd stuff the allen key into move by themselves and shit. that being said I play hard even when I'm not playing hard so I guess that's to be expected considering the whole piece floats (literally, there's nothing that holds it in place.) but anyways.

@ trumpeter - Hello back atcha! vintage '4 eh? swank.

The screws move? Like, up and down adjusting the height of the strings?

If that's what you mean, I haven't experienced that.

Yessah, that's essentially what I mean. The tailpiece moves which in turn moves the screws, I suppose. but hey.

@ Burton - bang-on man. sounds like a memorable photoshoot. it was probably super-clear in Alaska too.
Joe after all that investment into that thing are you going to keep it or unload it?
The OLP? I'll probably keep it for a little bit. I'm attempting to schmooze my way in to getting some studio time as a session bassist, so I'll keep what I've got until I find out whether or not having a Stingray-style 5-string is necessary (or until I end up loving it). I've only put $55 into it after the strings I just ordered, so if I sell it for $100, I'll still come out at least $5 ahead, less the time I spent on it.

I'm completely baffled by the neck - it was dead straight when I got it and did the fret level, and after putting an old set of heavy nickel strings on it, and tuning it up, it barely moved at all. A quarter turn of the truss rod would take it back to normal.

I applied the first coat of epoxy last night. That sh*t is messy, and I don't want to wait another ~60 hours for it to finish curing, but it looks like I may only need to sand it down and apply one more epoxy coat, which would be wicked sweet. Here's a pic of the neck that I took this morning:

I'm still not fully decided on the body yet. I've been kicking around the idea of a solid crimson red with a black burst, but it's still up in the air.

There were plenty of other shots of the other bands, but fuck them. The headliners sucked massive dick anyway. I still felt bad for them when there was about 7 people sitting in front of them after we finished.

FlamingCouch 12-22-2010 10:53 PM

If the show went down half as awesome as those pics, it must've been pretty damn awesome. Mad props to your keyboardist for air-guitar shredding like a champ.

Was any of this recorded?

I think he behaves more like a guitarist than me or the actual lead guitarist most of the time. He's upset that he can't wrap his head around how a fretboard works; good on keys though.

Yeah we got the whole thing recorded, I'll have a DVD of it tomorrow. Sound quality is.. mediocre. It was just a HD camera after all, we usually take them more for stage show perspective.

I'll see if i can fandangle some of the newer material onto youtube or something.

I can't decide whether that's the most amazing or retarded thing I've ever seen.

Anyway, I take back what I said about Convectuoso, Joel. I actually tracked down the Worship and Tribute version, and I've been listening to it loads. Guess I shouldn't base my opinion of it from a live demo with one guitar and no bass D:
