Illmatic 11-24-2004 01:32 AM

I didn't know that the very same Roy Harper Led Zeppelin referenced in a song title was the same Roy Harper who sang in "Have a Cigar"...I can't believe I couldn't pick that up.

Decent review; it piqued my interest. I'll look for the album sometime.

And yes, listening only to classic rock is wrong.

The reminds me of when homer looks out of the bus window and he sees some jewish rabis and he's like "wow! it's ZZ Top! You guys rock!"

That show has so many classic rock refrences. Like the rock and roll summer camp episode.
Rock n' Roll summer camp is one of my favorite episodes

thickasabrick 11-24-2004 10:24 AM

Jimmy Page looks like Yoko Ono now. i bet they could trade places and no one could notice.

and to Disconnection Notice: Roy Harper did have quite a successful music career, he isn't only known by the zeppelin song and Have a Cigar.

Does anyone else realize there is like five beatles threads on the first page right now? Two of them are exactly the same. this is insane.

It's Beatle Mania!!!!!

Did we travel back in time to 1964?

Is it wrong to listen to just Classic Rock?

My answer: yes.
I don't think its wrong, but I think its very close-minded to do so. There are many other forms of good music, and to not even give it a chance because it isn't classic rock is wrong. If you listen to it first, and decided you're stickin with classic rock, that's your opinion.

Also, good review Schyma, and I noticed how crazy Steve Howe was looking when I watched this Yesspeak dvd we have. Its a good thing he can still own at guitar. And I think Keith Richards looks more dead. Steve Howe just looks old.

To below: Good answer, I'm not flaming. :thumb:

punkster998 11-24-2004 11:00 AM

I don't think it's wrong either. After all, classic rock is better than current rock. Not saying current rock does suck. But classic rock definintely has more style and than current rock. I can tell you that.

If only, I always ask my parents about it, and they say it really was a mania. Boys were getting kicked out of school for having hair touch their ears.

Sheeshers, there's so many classic rock fans on these boards but they never post here. Do you guys think that we're just a little bit intimidating?
Actually, I think we are. When I first joined I was afraid to post in here, Badmoon gave me the willies..........actually he still does...

there a number of modern rock bands that come to mind, whom i would consider better than most classic rock. granted, there are some bands (allman brothers, led zeppelin, grateful dead, among countless others) who have a special place in rock history, but this whole obsession with classic rock reeks of a lack of perspective and objectiveness in observing music. i love moby grape as much as anyone else here, but i also recognize that modern rock is not inherently without "style".

oh, and by modern rock, i'm referring to bands that play actual music, as opposed to the packaged garbage that most people listen to.

magicbus 11-24-2004 12:33 PM

^^Rep, not flame. Also, nice avatar. :thumb:

When I first joined I thought Badmoon was like 40. But yea, maybe if they make a relevant post we shouldn't flame them.

And I'm like 10 away from 2000 posts! And Woodstock might have it now!
Hello Thread, before you flame me for my first post :upset: , I just want to let you know that I have read allllllll 138 pages of this forum. And I must say I agree with classic rock being the best genre out there. The only problem is that all my friends only like the basic bands. I'm getting in much deeper to CSN&Y, Grateful Dead, Derek and the Dominoes and other under appreciated bands  .Anyways,.....what Allman Brothers Band album would you reccomend.

My first post was on p. 45. I started out with the ever popular, "liek OMG i'm agreeing with the first post and talking about how many people listen to classic rock now!!1~"

I was n00b.

EDIT: I didn't want to post a new spam reply. I have 2000 posts! :chug: Hooray for me! (the other smiley can be woodstock)

None of the regulars in this thread just listen to classic rock.

If that was what you're getting at.

Against Miik! 11-24-2004 05:19 PM

Nobody listens to just classic rock. Noobs only say they do because they are hoping for acceptance. I was just listening to the blood brothers a minute ago.

classic rock, and current rock arent the only genres in the world....is it not possible for someone to listen to blues? or metal? need i go on?

Well I would consider both of those very similar to rock, depending the kind of stuff you listen to. If you listen to classic rock and rock along with Metallica(metal) and SRV(blues), I would hardly say you have a broad musical taste.

actually i dont think Robert Johnson(blues) is close to Classic or current rock...and i dont really listen to metal i was just using it as an example. i listen to bluegrass mostly.

but yes...i suppose SRV and Metallica aren't straying far from rock.
