Argh, don't remind me about the soft stuff. Lopez's work on the soft sections was one of the most awe inspiring parts of the band. :upset:
I know man, I know... :upset: |
I just died inside.
Why would you quit the best band in the universe? |
Yeah, I just read it. It's really sad to see my favorite drummer leave but he obviously had to.
:( |
Let's all listen to To Bid You Farewell in his honor... then something he actually played in.

Already did that. Listened to TBYF and then Master's Apprentices. |
Damn, He was the master mind behind Opeths beats oh well no one can replace him and what he did.
|

Pretty true. I will only be truly happy if Bobby Jarzombek or Nick Barker replace him, but other than that I'll be really bummed out. This is truly a sad time in Opeth history. |
What were his anxiety attacks caused by ?
BTW, listened to a bit of Still Life before...hadn't done that in a while. I think I'll be listening to the whole thing later on. Bobby is with Iced Earth, Thor :p |
He played on most of the classic albums: MAYH, Still Life, BWP, Damnation
|
Well now we know that if they make another album like Damnation it won't be nearly as good because Lopez's fills and additions to the songs were just so perfect.
|
Does Billy Cobham still play drums professionally..?
I think he is the only one that can match Lopez's diversity and skill. This is a horrible moment in music history... |

I think he is the only one that can match Lopez's diversity and skill. This is a horrible moment in music history...
Now I think that Nick Barker would be a good candidate for the band's next drummer. While is is way to fast for them, he could easily play slower. He's also extremely creative and comes up with some incredible parts to listen to. I'd love it if he joined up with the band. He potentially could I think, seeing as how he's not in Dimmu Borgir anymore and he's not doing any side projects to my knowledge. |
Sean Reinhart would be good, but it would never happen.
They need a jazzy/ethnic drummer. |
How come there are so many martins in opeth Martin Lopez, Martin Mendez and Martin Axenrot? must be just a coincedence.
|
Mikeal has a fetish for Martins.
|
Well, the decision so far is Axe, which is a standard metal drummer...
We can all hope for a jazzy drummer though; it would fit Opeth so much better, especially with this new direction... |

Barker would be a horrible fit, I think. He's fast as hell, and has some great drumlines, but his drums and Opeth would have a godawful clash. They're completely different. |

travis barker would be a much better drummer.
|
Im soo ****ing gutted about Lopez.:upset:
|
Travis Barker would fit the style dumbass.
If he would fit the style, then why are you complaining? - Deliverance. Best mellow drum parts EVAR. |
On the plus side, Lopez is doing a side project? That should rule.
Don't think it counts as a side project if you don't have a main band for it to be on the side of... :( |
Damn that sucks, he was an amazing drummer, especially on Damnation.
|
Lopez was a great drummer and was perfect in Opeth. They will never be the same again. :upset:
|
hmm. That's some bad news right there.
|
Well I remember a few days back we were complaining that we had nothing new to talk about, and unfortunately we do now. :upset:
I don't think the band will ever fully recover from this. |
Better buy Still Life and love it now, kiddies. They'll never make anything like it ever again.
Hell, same for Damnation. And Deliverance. |
I've never really heard Axenrot play. Is he more of a death metal drummer? If so, we could see another MAYH -esque album.
|

I'm sad about Martin's departure from the band :upset:
I hope "Axe" mantain the same level as Lopez did. |
