What's wrong with AFI? |
Yeah, AFI were great...I don't like their new approach but they were really good. The Art Of Drowning is such a good album.
Nope.
Fat & Ugly > fake eyelashes and shiit
So true ^^^ |
New Afi isn't good, but in the good ole' days their albums were great. Everything from Very Proud of Ya to Art of Drowning was really good. Black Sails in the Sunset and All Hallows were especially good. Don't judge Afi on waht they are now.

I've heard everything. Art Of Drowning is better than the new stuff, however it's pretty crappy, IMO. Any AFI fans want to give me the rundown on why you like them? IMO, the singer just sucks, guitars are generic/boring and drumming doesn't catch my ears either. I don't note bass, since I hardly ever pay attention to it in music. |
Alright lets make a list shall we.
1. Afi's vocalist Davey Havok is a very good singer. He is very diverse and is able to adapt his vocals to almost whatever style music is being played. This makes him a very virsatile vocals, which is something that alot of punk vocalists aren't. They stick to a style of vocals and don't change it up. Havok however is different on every record and changes quite abit from song to song sometimes. He also has a good vocal range and knows how to exploit that. 2. Jade Pudget, though not the greatest guitar player of all time adds a certain dimension to the music. Without his style of playing the music would be very flat and dull. He knows how to write and good melody, even if it is repetative, and is good with his rhythms. He also adds another dimension to the vocals, alternating and complementing Havok's vocals very well. Bass and drums are the downpoint of they band. They are not bad, they just don't stand out. Bass particularly is just low in the mix and drums are solid but not flashy so to alot of people then don't stand out. All in all, good fun well written music. |
Afi are an awesome band.
Period. |

Any AFI fans want to give me the rundown on why you like them?
I like all AFI, new and old. I enjoy the older stuff because of the raw energy mainly, and because of the sense of community and belonging the records give. I'm guessing Sing The Sorrow and Decemberunderground would be classed as the much hated new stuff. I like Sing The Sorrow because it still feels really energetic, but also has more interesting elements, such as the addition of some electronics. Overall, the record has such an intense and beautifully sorrowful feeling. One of my favourite records ever actually. Decemberunderground is just a really great pop rock record. I love all the synth experimentation and hooks. Good, fun record. The only thing I'm mainly dissapointed with in the album is that the lyrics aren't as good as previous efforts. Havok is not an outstanding singer, and I can understand why his voice might not appeal to some people, but it's unique and fits the music well. His lyrics are usually nop notch as well. Jade's guitar work is often more technical that it initially appears and although once again, not outstanding, he is a good song writer. Adam and Hunter don't massively stand out, but what they contribute works well. In summary, no individual member is extraordinarily talented, but the fusion of their sound is really attractive, at least to me. I'm not a 'scene' kid whose taste in music ranges from Linkin Park to Good Charlotte, I just genuinely enjoy the band. AFI are so often unfairly thrown in with a lot of the poorer mainstream bands that are around today, but they really aren't that bad. At all. This could all be worded better, but it's 2.15am and I'm tired. |

I slack them into the other mainstream, although putting anybody with GC is harsh. |
I love Sing The Sorrow. It has a really cool vibe to it that I enjoy.

^ Have you heard their older stuff, Anthony?
It's really REALLY good. NP: AFI - Strength Through Wounding |
you dudes are totally mallcore
|
Yeah, I've heard it. It's good, but I'm not much of a punk fan.
There may be alot of Mall in AFI, but there's certainly no Core. |
Meh, I like them. I'm getting my guilty pleasures out today :p
