Yeah they are, I saw Sourvein there a few months ago. They played with Orange Goblin, Old Crone and Jecano, and they kinda got overshadowed to be honest.

metal-militia 10-29-2006 11:58 AM

I was thinking of going to that, was it good? I've been meaning to go see Orange Goblin, I love their old stuff.

Kyle 10-29-2006 12:02 PM

It was a fantastic gig. I wasn't sure what to expect from Orange Goblin, but they really impressed me. They sound much better live than on CD.

CabbageStabbage 10-29-2006 08:05 PM

Anyone like Ataraxie? I heard some stuff, it's pretty great. Doom with some fast death metal parts.

Daven 10-29-2006 08:10 PM

Ataraxie is pretty good.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-29-2006 08:12 PM

Don't be bitter Jon, I cant help it if no good bands want to come to your convict desert island. :thumb:

Nice one for picking up The River though

Yeah, I like Ataraxie - another good French band. :D

I'm moving down to Auckland next year for uni. Can't wait, because I'm finally going to be able to see some metal concerts.

I like them quite a bit.
It's weird to hear a sudden blasbeat with these funeral doomsters.
Still it's sounds ok.
I missed their performance yesterday. :(

Phototropic 10-30-2006 07:37 AM
Argh, that's a great venue aswell :(

I see Josiah are playing at the Underworld tonight aswell, have you heard them? they're pretty good. They have an amazing local band called Jecano doing a support slot, everyone should check them out.

Josiah - http://www.myspace.com/josiahukrockers
Jecano - http://www.myspace.com/jecano

Jecano are my favorite local band, i've seen them quite a few times, and probably whored them in this thread once or twice. Anyway, listen to the song Hilltop Hanging if you get a minute.
my mates band Suns of thunder play with Jecano a fair bit, I haven't actually got into them that much to be honest

hey fellow wales dweller

Kyle 10-30-2006 11:30 AM

Hey man, I can see why it might not be your thing. I still love them though, but it might only be because the local scene was so bad in Berkshire.

There was a review of the Bomb The Sun EP in the Cardiff Students magazine today, it got a 9/10 :D

the2stranger 10-31-2006 05:05 AM

I really enjoy the Bomb The Sun, so it's well deserved to get a good score.

On the stoner topic: I listened to Sleep - Dopesmoker yesterday.
Remains one of my favorite stoner releases.
I love his guitar tone when he plays the bluesy solos.

AlienEater 10-31-2006 06:09 AM

I'll check out Bomb The Sun then.

Jondur 10-31-2006 06:43 AM

This thread needs to turn up the doom. Too much funeral and stoner nonsense at the moment.

*facilitates the doominess*

the2stranger 10-31-2006 06:55 AM

There's nothing wrong with funeral doom!

:p

I listened to Isole a few days back, good times.

/listens mp3 you posted.

Good song.

You don't like funeral or stoner doom? Or you only like it in moderation?

the2stranger 10-31-2006 07:26 AM

Assuming this band is called Eternal Solitude, I get a doom/death profile on M-A.
Not doom/death sounding to me.

Great band though. :)

It's a Solitude Aeturnus song :).

Jondur 10-31-2006 08:32 AM

Its a demo track off the new album (to be released soon). Sounds pretty good - but I'll wait to hear the full album before I pass judgement.

I'm off to Belgium on Friday to watch Reverend Bizarre, Mirror of Deception, Semlah, The Gates of Slumber, The River and a few others. Should be a good do.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-31-2006 08:37 AM

Sounds like a good gig. I got The River's full-length recently, it's top stuff.

Jondur 10-31-2006 08:45 AM

I think it's the best thing they've done (even without me on drums!) - "If Only" has some of the best riffs this side of the mighty Celtic Frost.

I'm looking forward to seeing them live from in front of the band! We were getting to be a really good live band - by the time we did Doom Shall Rise we were crushing - so I'm hoping that their gigging hiatus won't have made them rusty.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-31-2006 08:51 AM

Yeah, it's really great. A Close Study is probably my favourite.

That new SA didn't sound too bad either.

I would kill to be able to go to a show like that.

It sucks being stuck here in NZ.
