I listened to In This Twilight just now, and I've finally come to terms with the fact that this is just by-the-book NIN. Nothing we haven't heard before, really, nothing that exciting or new. Not that the songs aren't good, but I was hoping for more than that.
Birmingham, right?

I'll be there!
Yes indeed strangely psychic person.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-27-2007 10:21 PM

So far I've listened to Me, I'm Not and In This Twilight and they're pretty much undeniably my favorite NIN tracks evar!

Yes, I'm even more psyched about Year Zero now that I've actually heard the songs. :p

misunderstood 02-27-2007 11:22 PM

^ For some reason I just can't seem to really get into 'Me, I'm Not'. I do like all the other songs that have been released though.

Anyway, I just finished watching 'Beside You In Time' and all I have to say is wow! That is an awesome live DVD. The sound was great, the visuals were great, camera angles were great. I'm very satisfied to say the least. My only real complaint is that I thought the entire show was filmed from a distance more than anything. One thing I really liked about AATCHB was that the cameras seemed to have caught alot of closeups of the band during performance..not the case this time around.

Oh, and I have to admit that the packaging of the dvd was a bit disappointing too. I thought the booklet (if you can call it that) would at least contain a track list, the band, a picture...something, anything. Not a big deal though. Seems like the entire 'With Teeth' era was like this. Plain, simple and straight to the point.

Also, no easter eggs! Hehe. I was kinda hoping that maybe the scrapped EDIETS video would show up. Or it would have been awesome had they added the sessions they had with Peter Murphy last year. It was all good though. The rehearsal footage was nice as well. 'Eraser', 'Right Where It Belongs' and 'Beside You In Time' were fantastic! Probably one of my favorite parts of the show...though nothing compares to hearing those three songs live!
Very happy with this DVD nonetheless.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-27-2007 11:27 PM

Me, I'm Not is probably my favorite of the four tbh.

I love all of the percussion. Such an odd variety of samples...

Kage 02-27-2007 11:34 PM

Me I'm Not is the only song I haven't heard (yet).

I'm waiting on a torrent of a DVD rip to show up tbh. I can't spare the money right now.

natalie708 03-02-2007 02:18 AM

Just purchased NIN ticket for May :) Bloody expense too but undenialably worth it. No news on the new set list, eh?

YES news on the new setlists.

http://www.echoingthesound.org/phpbbx/viewforum.php?f=17

They have all the setlists from recent shows.

natalie708 03-02-2007 02:46 AM

Ooh Thankyou for that :)
It's good they are doing alot of old stuff too. Apprently they are playing close to two hours for our concert, I'm physced. The norm nowadays seems to be little over half an hr, it's ridiculas.

Stalusk 03-02-2007 06:00 AM

I heard the Metro show in Melbourne sold out in record time, a lot of unhappy (unhappier?) people walking around here at the moment....

deadinholywood 03-02-2007 10:04 AM

^Myself included, and by the time i had found out about the second show it had sold out too :upset:

No thats ridiculous, most live sets are an hour to two hours. It all depends on the bands bank of material though.

magicbus 03-02-2007 10:32 AM

I think I'm gonna go pick up that new dvd today. I hear it's pretty sweet.

ATM 03-02-2007 10:32 AM

I'm getting the new album right now :-D

edit:

Saul Williams - guest vocals on "Survivalism"

Awesome!

double edit: not the album, just 3 songs :-/

They are playing alot of old stuff right now, but I'm assuming once the new albums is released, they'll be playing mostly stuff off Year Zero. I do hope they don't do away with The Becoming and We're In This Together now..I'd love to hear either or both songs live!

Whaaaa?! I don't hear him on the song. Saul Williams is awesome though.

Polyamarous 03-03-2007 05:53 AM

I'M SEEING NIN TOMORROW!

Oh college wont be any fun on Monday.

They had better play You Know What You Are!

pixiesfanyo 03-03-2007 10:54 AM

You Know What You Are live rules

Meatplow 03-03-2007 11:06 AM

I was at an after party for a local metal gig last weekend and a NIN dvd was playing on a large tv. I quite liked it.

misunderstood 03-03-2007 03:50 PM
You Know What You Are live rules
Yes, it does! That one and Mr. Self-Destruct.

Another song was leaked earlier today, The Beginning of the End (i know, i know).
I think this one sounds alot more mainstream than any of the other ones that have been released so far. I think this is the kind of song, like THTF, that will sound even better live! I like this one even though it's kinda short. After listening to this a few times, I get the feeling that 'Hyperpower!' is gonna end up being some sort of intro like 'Pinion' and 'The Frail'.

Kage 03-03-2007 10:24 PM

Wow, I lucked out. I was at work and this channel called 101 or something played the new DVD in its entirety! It was pretty good, nothing magnificent. Also, I thought You Know What You Are sucked, because in the chorus I couldn't even hear the piano at all. That's pretty much the best part of the song. Also, Beside You In Time sucked. And they used so many damn backing tracks.

deadinholywood 03-04-2007 08:13 AM

In This Twilight would sound fantastic if it was given the Still treatment IMO, it's my favorite new song so far!

Refl 03-04-2007 05:54 PM

Just got back from NIN gig.

Setlist:

Somewhat Damaged
Last
March of the Pigs
Piggy
Heresy
Ruiner
Closer
Burn
Gave Up
Help Me I Am in Hell
Eraser
Wish
Survivalism
Only
The Big Comedown
Suck
The Day the World Went Away
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

It was so good, especially all the DS tracks in a row.

magicbus 03-04-2007 06:38 PM

That's like a perfect setlist. I really hope they do a US leg of the tour also.

misunderstood 03-05-2007 01:38 AM

That is an awesome setlist! Though I still wish they'd bring back Just Like You Imagined..:upset:
Anyway, anyone going to attend any of the listening parties that were announced for Year Zero?
Hopefully I'll be able to get into the Austin one. I have class that day and since the even is free to all ages, I'm assuming it's gonna be packed. The place it's being held at isn't too big. Well, hopefully, I get in and I can get a few drinks while I listen to new NIN :p

Here's a list of the cities where they're having these listening events:

-Salt Lake City, UT
-Minneapolis, MN
-San Francisco, CA
-New York, NY
-Los Angeles, CA
-San Diego, CA
-Atlanta, GA

-Seattle, WA
-Sacramento, CA

Polyamarous 03-05-2007 05:43 AM

Oh man they where so good last night!

I would've liked to see you know what you are but I couldn't care much, best gig I ever went to.

Spiritofmosa 03-05-2007 06:28 AM

i hope this album sounds mainstream enough for me :)

Polyamarous 03-05-2007 07:04 AM

Stupid spiral club with thier pizza!

Livin n a Cage in the USA 03-05-2007 08:15 AM

I went to the listening party for With Teeth and it was free and there weren't that many people there.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-05-2007 10:38 AM

The Seattle listening party is at the Experience Music Project, an institution whose entire basis is to rip people off.

In other words, I doubt it's free for me.

Angmar 03-05-2007 10:45 AM

I might go to the seattle gig.

Kage 03-05-2007 01:53 PM

Really digging With Teeth right now.

Angmar 03-05-2007 02:05 PM

I am currently liking The Fragile and Broken a lot. And am I the only one who completely just deletes the 90 silent tracks?

Clunge 03-05-2007 02:40 PM

Weird, I got the Broken EP and The Fragile yesterday...

I like Broken though, up with PHM and TDS, The Fragile isn't quite so good but songs like Starfuckers and La Mer are brilliant .

Kage 03-05-2007 02:41 PM

I hate Broken with every fiber of my being.

I tried I gave up I'm gay I came out.

Overall just terrible songs.

With a few exceptions, that is true.

Kage 03-05-2007 03:37 PM

Happiness in Slavery is the only redeeming song.

repcak 03-05-2007 03:51 PM

you're talking about Broken? i like it :)

i listened to all NIN album for so long and now i know all the songs even when i sleep... today i played "Further down the spiral" and it was so amazing... so different!!
i have to listen to more NIN again... at least the small albums, the remastered songs like on "Further down the spiral"

No, I do too. Actually, whenever I listen to Broken, I rarely go beyond the 6th track..so most of the time I don't listen to the two 'hidden' tracks. Same thing with Tool's 'Undertow' album.
I like Broken though, up with PHM and TDS, The Fragile isn't quite so good but songs like Star****ers and La Mer are brilliant
 Personally I think the entire left disc of The Fragile is brilliant! :p

Anyway, Broken is certainly not my favorite NIN album/EP and probably the release I listen to least, but I do like it though. I actually like 'Last' alot as well as 'Wish'.
But right now, I haven't been able to stop listening to the And All That Could Have Been album.
