start with blackwater park IMO

and after that, buy all their albums, and their dvd
I really do hate to say this, but i personally think that Mikael's performance on the opeth dvd was bland, especially in the clean vocals department. all in all though, it was a good group performance
really?
I thought the dvd was ace, and if there is one thing I didn't like all that much, than it is that he can't do his growls as long live as on studio albums.
on studio he seems to growl for 10 sec without any show of effort, but on the dvd it's more short bursts of growls.

Deth 03-29-2005 08:32 AM

I also thought he was amazing on the DVD, but to each his own.

He does alot of overdubbing/multiple tracks for studio recordings.

"In My Time Of Need" is God like.
The interlude to "Bleak" has moved me to tears. When you hear all the instruments coming together like that, it's powerful.
Indeed, I know exactly what you're talking about. :)

Kaiwaz 03-29-2005 11:48 AM
ive been told about Opeth by a few people, but i dont know which album to start with. Can anyone recommend something?
I'd go from beginning to latest if I were you...

Orchid, Morningrise, My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, ****ation.

So you can live the progression as if Orchid just came out. :D

I personally thought his clean vocals were great.Very few vocalists sound as good as they do on albums. But Mikael sounded great.Much better than I expected.Perhaps a little less reverb on the mic would have been better.

Anyway, I keep finding these 2 guitar lesson videos on Kazaa that are supposedly Opeth.Anyone know about these.I want to know if they are legit before I download them.
Ok, lol im kind of hesitate to post this but has anyone ever got teary eyed or sad once they listened to opeth? I saw this thread and I heard great things about them, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about so I went out and bought Blackwater park...it blew me away I was hooked, and every now and then when I hear The Drapery Falls I still start to cry a little bit. I hope I'm not the only one
All man, the first solo on The Leper Affinity almost turned me into a pouting little schoolgirl. The whole song did.I was in a soothing trance like I've never felt before, then that solo came in and I was like "holy shit"!!

It was the closest I came to crying in like 4 years. Not because of a tragedy, or a break up, but because of Opeth

Mr. Squiggles 03-29-2005 04:44 PM

Opeth are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. I love how they swich from hardcore kinda stuff to more mellow stuff. They are one of the most interesting styles of music I have ever heard.

It's from guitar.com from a few years ago. It's basically Mikael showing you how to play the different riffs from The Drapery Falls while Mendez and Peter sit around looking bored.

Oh my God yes.

I have to say though, "The Drapery Falls," is their greatest work, seriously, the music is just so.... epic.

bucket 03-29-2005 05:31 PM

What's a mellotron?

Thanks.I'll download it.
What's a mellotron?
Its a keyboard I believe.I could be wrong though.

Det_Nosnip 03-29-2005 07:34 PM

Yeah, it's an old fashioned electronic synthesizer type thing. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Beatles used one in "Strawberry Fields."

Dude3 03-29-2005 07:55 PM

Sorry for the stupid question, but do you guys know of any good websites that carry Opeth shirts? I'm looking to get one, but I'm looking for one that isn't black. My entire wardrobe is black, and I need a shirt that has some other color. Any website would be appreciated.

Kage 03-29-2005 08:17 PM

Jonny Greenwood uses a mellotron a lot, as do a quite a few prog bands I believe. It's a keyboard/synthesiser thing that resonates with a reverbing sound, or something to that effect. That's what I've heard at least.

In response to post above; if you're looking for colored shirts other than black, I'm not sure Opeth is the band to do so with :P

relliK 03-29-2005 09:13 PM

www.blastwaves.com has a small selection of shirts.

Dude3 03-29-2005 09:17 PM

yea, it would be hard to find Opeth shirts that aren't black.
Whatever, I'll get one anyway.

All of you go there. I made it for you.

the2stranger 03-30-2005 03:55 AM

the one Opeth shirt that isn't too black ( it's still black), is the d'amnation shirt, with the white dámnation cover.

I have one Opeth t shirt, with the cover of the BWP album, and Mikeal, Peter, Martin and Martin on the back.

Deth 03-30-2005 09:22 AM

The first of the Sounds of the Underground with Opeth dates have been announced.

Hopefully it'll come closer than 3 hours away with the next announcements.

the2stranger 03-30-2005 09:37 AM

and I hope tey announce some more European tourdates, just Viena isn't enough :upset:

I mean I live in Holland
that's way too far

Deth 03-30-2005 09:38 AM

For your sake I hope that as well.

the2stranger 03-30-2005 09:45 AM

thank you :)

I will see porcupine tree, and messhugah in a bit :)
and I'm going to the rock werchter festival, which has a nice line up:

http://www.rockwerchter.be

oh yeah
NIN
rammstein
krafwerk
QOTSA
Mars volta

not too bad ;)

Deth 03-30-2005 09:48 AM

I envy you. The US never gets any good festivals.

the2stranger 03-30-2005 09:54 AM

which I find weird, do you have ozzfest this year?

in my area ther e are loads of festivals, keeps my life bearable

you shoukd visit Europe :thumb:
Holland is a nice country

Deth 03-30-2005 09:56 AM

Well, Ozzfest kind of counts, but since I'm not getting Maiden, and it's mostly smaller bands, I wouldn't put it on the same level as say Download or Reading.

IvortheEngineDriver 03-30-2005 10:10 AM

^^^
Same problem. I live smack **** right in the middle of the US, in the South and have to drive a good 2-6 hours to see anything. Dallas is where I've gone for most of my concerts, but I was supposed to see Opeth last year, but it snowed that day and Oklahoma City (where they were playnig) was apparantly covered in ice, so I didn't go :upset:

But yeah, Ozzfest usualy sucks. I only want to see like 3 bands on the whole list, don't want to pay a lot for something I dont really want to use. You guys in Europe got it made :(

the2stranger 03-30-2005 10:17 AM

but yu had tickets, but coulnd't go?

wow, that must beone of the worst events in your life I guess.
or atleast for me it would be, I would kill to see Opeth.

I talked with some dude a while back ,and he was supposed to go to a Tool gig, with a friend, and the friend lost the tickets or something. I would have killed the friend**

Grey Incision 03-31-2005 12:05 AM

excuse typing errors, i have a reallly sucky eye infection thats ****ing sigt up

relliK 03-31-2005 04:00 AM

I cant wait for that Bloodbath DVD to come out.I'd pay lots of money to see Mikael on stage with a mic and no guitar.Just to see if he'd go fuckin nuts on stage.

Grey Incision 03-31-2005 04:06 AM

yeah, fvck i wish i had some money!!!:(

Firecracker 03-31-2005 04:07 AM

"In My Time Of Need" is like the only one i've liked, it's just such a good song, but i haven't been able to connect with the other songs, name some one's which are as good as this song please, to get me started.

Cardboard Headgear 03-31-2005 04:09 AM

Grey Incision 03-31-2005 04:10 AM
