Yo Lunch, you need to check out the band Bloodkin. I just discovered them a few days ago- If you're on a Panic kick, you'll love them. They're also from Athens, GA and started around the same time as Panic jamming with them and playing the same clubs. They actually wrote Can't Get High, Henry Parsons Died, and End of the Show, some of favorite Panic songs. They have a really sweet new album too.

Yeah, I feel really dumb for missing the Allmans, but at least I'll catch them at Mountain Jam. Tickets sold out really fast, and the only night I had friends interested in going was last night, we were going to try to scalp tickets, but tickets were being sold on the street outside the Beacon for like $500-1,000 apiece, so we passed.

jpj 03-21-2009 08:12 PM

I still haven't seen Panic yet and it really pisses me off

robo2448 03-21-2009 10:14 PM

me neither. haven't really listened to them very much either, but i still would really like to see them.
Rothbury is nuts but it's too expensive - I'm gonna try to do their Work Exchange Program but other than that I wouldn't be able to make it. I think I'm going to 10k as well, not the greatest overall lineup but two nights of PANIC is gonna be huge.

Ghostfire, were you at the Chicago DSO show? They were on that night. Second set was fire the whole way through. Awesome China>Rider in the MIDDLE of the first set too.
I wish man. I was planning on going with a friend but he got really sick that day so I decided not to go. I knew a few other people that went though and they said it was flame so I'm pretty disappointed I missed out.

Oh yeah, and my friend was telling me you can do this payment plan thing for Rothbury where you pay like $100 up front and then they charge you $75 2 weeks later and then $75 again 2 weeks later if you want to go but can't pay for it all at once. Plus think about the Dead/Dylan headliners. It would probably cost about the same to see them alone separately. And I have a feeling they'll play together for a little bit which would be sweet. I realize that both the Dead and Dylan are far beyond their ability to perform like they used to but this year's Rothbury is just gonna be epic.

Also, I would love to go to 10K and see 2 nights of Panic but as I said before DMB headlining turned me completely off. Rothbury and (maybe) Summercamp is where my money's at this summer...

EDIT: And anyone planning on goin to 10K should make an effort to see BoomBox if you get a chance. They're pretty fun live

Broken Arrow 03-22-2009 09:11 PM

I saw the Panic in Ottawa but only caught a bit of their set. They covered Goin' Out West though. Also caught Primus that day.

thunderzstruck 03-24-2009 03:20 PM

I've been wanting to get into STS9 but I can't find any live shows to download (that are free, i refuse to pay for music if i dont get an actual copy)

Ghostfire3 03-24-2009 03:45 PM
I've been wanting to get into STS9 but I can't find any live shows to download (that are free, i refuse to pay for music if i dont get an actual copy)
This site will suit pretty much any live music needs of yours:

archive.org

Splendid website that people post live recordings of shows on and for streaming and/or downloading.

Now you have over 500 live STS9 shows to choose from :). However, I would suggest sorting by "Average Rating" or "Download Count" because those tend to be the best setlists with the best quality. Also, in terms of STS9 I would definitely suggest something older or at least before they released Peaceblaster as their live shows then were far better than they are now.
ah man thatd be so awesome. id love to go to red rocks but i wouldnt be in school at that time so i dont think id be able to make it

been getting into the allman brothers (blue sky is a beautiful song) and i picked up Dicks Picks 3 yesterday. Pretty solid
Listen to "Mountain Jam." It's a half-hour of awesome.

robo2448 03-24-2009 06:18 PM

^It's true.

Also, search youtube for clips of them at the Beacon this March. Some great stuff going on during these shows, I think it can compare to them during their prime. John Bell and Jimmy Herring from Panic sat in last night, can't wait until that surfaces.

SgtPrimus 03-24-2009 07:13 PM

Ween is the only jam band I care for, if they are even considered one.

Go to the Archive (archive.org) and poke around. Lots of good quality shows. I'd recommend any of the nights from STS9's NYE Run in 2007 - 12/29,30,31 are the heat.

Listening to Can't Find My Way Home right now. Awesome. There's rumors of a Panic/ABB tour, maybe late summer>fall, that would be devastating.

Ghostfire3 03-26-2009 05:32 PM

Panic/Allman Brothers would be fire. Definitely wouldn't miss that especially since I've seen neither live

allconcert 03-27-2009 05:03 AM

Phish

Phish phucking rule! My favourite jam band of all time.

Favourite song - Fee

Song that got me started - Dirt.

It's been a while since I've seen a good band mentioned in the music forums.

CaptainWaits 03-27-2009 05:39 PM

What's the consensus on Medeski Martin and Wood here?

robo2448 03-28-2009 10:38 AM

Well I don't what everyone else thinks, but I think they're incredible, and most of us can probably agree on that. I'm seeing them in a couple weeks, pretty excited. I actually haven't heard any of their studio work, but I've caught them live a couple times and listened to a few other live shows and loved it all. Seeing them with Scofield was especially mind-melting.

jpj 03-28-2009 11:20 AM

An ABB/Panic tour would own, and would completely make up for not seeing ABB last summer.

Also, not jam band related, but I'm seeing Jane's Addiction with NIN this summer, which should be pretty cool.

Broken Arrow 03-29-2009 05:10 PM

Hey what are all you old CR dudes saying these days?

magicbus 03-30-2009 07:39 PM

Hi guys, what's cracklin'?

Lunch, you going to Lotus on Wednesday? I noticed you posted an event on facebook. I'm hoping to go, I have a decent sized exam the next morning though.

And I'm most likely going to Rothbury this year. That's where I'm at.

EDIT: Yeah definitely going to Lotus. We're taking a party bus from MSU to the concert and back. Can't pass up on that ****.

robo2448 04-03-2009 09:34 AM

Hey hey everyone.

I saw Railroad Earth on Tuesday night, really blew me away. 2nd set especially. They're an incredibly talented group of guys, each of them so talented with their respective instrument and they play together so tightly and well, it's pretty mindblowing. And they just have a great vibe to their shows, one could say almost Dead-like...

Man, I just can't wait for Mountain Jam. They just released the band schedule the other day, Saturday's lineup is a little lame but Friday and Sunday are absolutely incredible. Sunday's Richie Havens -> Billy Kreutzmann Trio -> The Derek Trucks Band -> Michael Franti & Spearhead -> The Allman Brothers Band is going to be like 8 straight hours of mind melting music.

shpongledosio 04-03-2009 09:31 PM

Hey whats up guys.

So who's making it out to the Mountaintop in WV for All Good 09? Great lineup this year and no overlapping sets gonna make for a wonderful festie, one of the best of the season. See you all on the mountain.

joshmay 04-04-2009 02:29 AM

hell yeah...if i go one place it will be all good. last year was fuckin mind-blowing in the fullest sense of the term.

also railroad earth are really good, caught em last year at langerado and they were burnin it up

joshmay 04-04-2009 02:40 AM

people diggin on the tribe too, apparently their set at langerado last year was some fuckin crucial conciousness therapy...my friend came back glowin about it, i was at camp a half hour walk from the stage and higher than groceries and missed it :smash:

shpongledosio 04-04-2009 01:45 PM

oh you cant be goin and missin tribe sets thats just wrong! yeah tribe does bring it and bring it hard everytime its how they do i love gettin down to some tribe.

glowstick war at all good? :) ooohhhhh yeeeaaaahhhh

glad to hear your hittin up all good its gonna be a great one. should be a few more additions to the lineup here soon, pat said there was a rumor out that galactic might be added to the lineup.

robo2448 04-04-2009 01:58 PM

Hate to say it, but Galactic at Mountain Jam was one of the most disappointing shows I've seen. I just did not dig the hip hop thing at all.

Ghostfire3 04-06-2009 12:26 AM

Yeah I agree, but they've been doing less of it lately. When I saw them recently they had some dudes from the opening act freestyle for a song or two but the majority of the show was good ol' Galactic.

I saw Lotus last night and it was incredible. Opening band called Telepath was real cool and Lotus threw down so hard. So much good energy in the crowd and on stage made for a great atmosphere the whole show

robo2448 04-06-2009 10:27 AM

That post is funny because at Mountain Jam, both Lotus and Galactic were playing late nights at the same time, and I picked Galactic... wrong choice it sounds like.

joshmay 04-06-2009 10:13 PM

yeah i hear people get down for lotus...

i went to scion rock fest in atlanta and saw all these badass metal bands and had a killer time, but it was a different vibe altogether.

the one thing you don't see at a fest like all good is corpse paint...

UmphreysHead 04-07-2009 12:58 AM

Alright so I have a dilema, I have a free ticket to see Bruce Springsteen on Friday at the Pepsi; BUT there is a rager going on in Denver as well. Has anybody seen Springsteen live, or have any idea if he puts on a good show?

robo2448 04-07-2009 09:59 AM

I've seen him a bunch of times (4 so far, tickt to see him again in May). He puts on a great show and I've always spent 100+ on tickets to see him so i say go for it if you can get a free ticket.

joshmay 04-07-2009 10:21 AM

the boss will be a show no matter what. hit that shit up! it won't be like it was 20 years ago but i don't see it bein a bad time at all. let us know what all he plays!

jpj 04-07-2009 12:18 PM

Any of you guys fans of The Bridge? I saw them open for Derek Trucks Saturday night (who was every bit as mind blowing as I imagined) and I thought they were great. They're gonna be at All Good, which makes me want to go even more.

joshmay 04-07-2009 04:23 PM

i would go to all good regardless of the lineup...what, sum41 are doin two nights and there's gonna be a duran duran reunion...dont give a shit, all good will still be the funkiest party happenin

derek trucks and susan tedeschi played last year and were fuckin smokin!

Lunch 04-07-2009 04:42 PM

Allgood lineup keeps getting better and better. I was disappointed with the initial announcement but they've got some good bands there...plus you can see every one of them if you want to. And like joshmay said, Allgood is gonna be awesome regardless of the lineup, the mountaintop is so much fun.

PANIC and ABB tour is going down. I'm hoping to catch the two shows in Chicago 9/2 and 9/3. Panic opens the first night and closes the second night...that's ideal for me. This tour is going to be so massive I can't believe it.

I saw Magicbus for a little bit at Lotus, it was wild. That show was pretty good for the most part (cool light show) but I didn't get into as much as I was hoping. It seemed short too. We did get a Spiritualize and a Greet the Mind though.

Rothbury is definitely going to be the spot as well, tickets are so expensive though. I still want to make it to 10k for those two nights of Panic too. Looks like money is gonna be hard to come by this summer for me.

DEAD tour starts next week! How crazy is that. I'll be seeing them in Chicago in less than a month...5/5. We just got a hotel room today and it's right by the venue so we can party hardy without worrying about traveling or where to crash.

Ghostfire3 04-07-2009 05:56 PM

Word man, All Good looks real promising again this year. Wish I had the money to make it out there..

As for Allman Brothers/Widespread Panic, I will most likely be attending the second night in Chicago to see Panic close. Psyched!

joshmay 04-07-2009 07:14 PM

Lunch i'm so jealous i havent been able to get the cash for this dead tour... right now im just tryin to hustle up a way to get to rothbury and see em.

apparently panic are doin 2-3 nights in louisville here in a couple months? some art festival, a bunch of my friends are goin to throw down, i know it will be insane.

robo2448 04-07-2009 07:49 PM

I'm seeing the dead at shoreline 5/14, should be sweet. Also, might go to 10klf, depending on transportation. I have a ticket so if I can't make it and any of you guys are interested, we could maybe work something out.

Lunch 04-07-2009 09:08 PM

Yea robo let me know about that ticket situation, I don't know when/if I'll be buying one so I might be in the market.

robo2448 04-07-2009 09:57 PM

^It's also a media ticket, so it would be able to get you backstage... right now my brother and I each have a ticket and would like to go, but traveling there is a pain and we might go to Gathering of the Vibes instead (much closer) so if we can't make it I will let you know.

Should be an awesome time, not sure if I can afford it though.

Do any of you cats from the old CR thread (or anyone for that matter) still make jams? Ive been recording a bit mostly for fun but I was curious if you guys have bands or whatnot.
