I heard Finntroll is Finnish but sings in Swedish cause it sounds like troll.
|
I was watching the videos on Dragonforce's website, and it had one of Herman Li playing a solo for another band. The band sounded pretty cool, anyone know who it is?
|
ah... titch got alive in athens... good lad...
I'm into Nightwish now due to that thread. The vocals are kind of annoying but the music is great.
 Don't know how anyone can call Tarja's voice annoying. |

You must know I'm pretty picky by now Leah :p It's not bad, I can listen to it, but it's not my idea of vocals at all. My favorite singer is Bruce Dickinson, I'm all about the power. Tarja has no power in her voice. It is quite melodic yes but I think for the powerful music Nightwish has they could have a more powerful singer. |
That's where Marco comes in...can't say he doesn't have a powerful voice.

I do think that Tarja has a powerful voice, and when Marco comes in it adds to it. My opinion. *shrugs* |

They sing in Swedish cause it's Katla's (former singer) Mother Tongue. Come to Folk/Viking Metal Thread to discuss  |
I think what you mean is you don't like sopranos.
I think he means what I mean when I say I want them to have grind in their voice. Remember? You had uploaded a few edguy tracks to show me that Tobias can sing this way whenever he wants. You had used a more accurate word to describe this vocal style. Ideal, aggressive power vocalists for me are Dio, Russell Allen and Hansi Kursch.
That's where Marco comes in...can't say he doesn't have a powerful voice
Yeah but still Tarja does the lead vocals and she's the one you hear all the time :p
Come to Folk/Viking Metal Thread to discuss
tch, tch, tch. What a shameless guy you are! :p |
I've never really heard any other soprano's in metal. I guess I'm into alto's like Bruce though or whatever Hetfield is (baratone?).
|
/dont say it
/dont say it! /no! /I...! Hetfield's yeah yeah yeah voice is teh suck :D /bastard! |

Bruce is a tenor. Hetfield is a baritone. Rob Halford is also a tenor, and Matt Barlow and Glenn Danzig are bass/baritones. |

slightly off topic, but is it just me or is "dig up her bones" by the misfits one of the best songs you have ever heard? It's one of my favourite "just recently heard" songs along woth helloween-halloween |

I never liked The Misfits much...don't know why.
One of my best new songs I've heard is either Victoria's Secret by Sonata Arctica or Taking Back My Soul by Arch Enemy. The former because of its beautiful nature and great leads, the latter because of its great leads and unrelenting assault manner. EDIT: Amen to the second part of that. Keys are great, but it's WAY too hard to find a decent keyboard player who can actually DO all that. My band has a keyboard player...he's decent, but not up to the level of most power metal songs. I don't think ANY of my band is. :upset: |

Have you heard Michale Graves' new band Gotham Road, yet? As for "just recently heard" songs... I'm really digging The Power Within by Dungeon. |
"darkness... where am I now?...
is there anyone out there? what has happened? am I in heaven... or is it hell? I can see a light coming...it's coming nearer, it's shining so bright... IT SHINES ON MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" |

Let me put it like this; you're wrong. You can not like her voice - it's your opinion, but to say that her voice isn't powerful is not gonna hold up. I think Nightwish is perfect as it is; the very thought of Bruce Dickinson fronting the band fills me with horror. |
/bump :p
Finally, YSI let me put this one up. Symphony X - Twilight in Olympus hxxp://s46.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3GL4XN8QLEZXA1YCTT5N2GM76F |

Arch Enemy are by no means power metal.

I upload thre Dragon Slayer album by Dream Evil yesterday. Great power metal. Everyone here should like it. |
cheesy but fun to listen. thank you! :thumb:
|
 Dream Evil. Mike posted the link to The Book of Heavy Metal. I couldn't stop laughing for ages.
|
I never could get into Symphony X. I tried after hearing comparisons with DT, and when I was starting to listen to power metal, but their music just really isn't very interesting to me...it's a shame, considering how instrumentally talented they are. :/
Yeh, I know what is like when some band just doesnt "click" you. I'm not sure if they're similar to Dream Theater (not familiar with them) but I really like them. Strong and nice vocals too. |
I can't see how people are comparing DT and Symphony X. They're both progressive metal, but they don't sound anything alike.
Is Arch Enemy powermetal? I haven't heard them, anyway.
No, they're melodeath. You haven't heard of them? They're an awesome band, you're missing out. I'll put some stuff up for you. Enemy Within http://www.megaupload.com/?d=39WTKFE3 The Immortal http://www.megaupload.com/?d=425H191D Shadows and Dust http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40UG4XL7 |

Arch Enemy is awesome. One of the best melodeath bands to ever come from Sweden.
Dream Evil link...NOOOOO! I hate .rar... Symphony X link: Awesome dude. Thanks. :thumb: |
Arch Enemy is awesome. One of the best melodeath bands to ever come from Sweden.
Yeah, they're decent. But when you speak of Sweden - Opeth comes to my mind. |
To Trooper and Hells Bells:
You guys rule, those were awesome uploads. |
I can't see how people are comparing DT and Symphony X. They're both progressive metal, but they don't sound anything alike.
People compare them because they're the two biggest progressive metal acts, most likely. They don't sound identical, but I would still say they have compareable sounds. |

There's alot of good Power Metal bands on there, Sorcerer are great. The website is similar to the old mp3.com, all legal downloads. Enjoy :) |

Honestly, the bands sound almost nothing alike...Symphony X has a wee bit of power metal in them, while Dream Theater is prog with lots of wankery solos (good wankery, mind you). I love whoever does vocals for Symphony X...his voice is beastly. |
I love whoever does vocals for Symphony X...his voice is beastly.
This how power vocals should sound like. They give the music an aggressive touch unlike Nightwish's vocals  :p |

:p
Just cause you're biased doesn't mean you have to tell the world. :p It takes some getting used to...trust me, in a few months, you'll love them. |
Hey i skipped a few pages (50 something :D)
But are there any fans of Spanish power metal here? Saratoga, Avalanch, Mago de oz etc... I'd be glad to upload some songs if you want. |
I'm not familiar with any spanish power. I've only heard that spanish groups usually sing in spanish :p. A few uploads would awesome! :)
|
Lol yeah they do sing in spanish :D
Allright I'll get to it. |
