Oh Cocaine.
I only have God Loves Ugly. Just got it from my friend. I gave him ATCQ The Low End Theory; aight I'll check them out sepstrup. |
I need to get some Blackalicious, badly.
Lucy Ford is pretty good so far. All I've heard in full is God Loves Ugly, which is pretty great. |
If they're short and snappy, then Skits don't really irritate me. But yeah, albums are usually better without them.
|
The bass on Lucy Ford is pretty spectacular. The production in general is great, but I think I prefer God Loves Ugly.
|
Atmosphere is a personal favorite of mine. Lucy Ford is probably the best thing he ever put out.
Right now I'm downloading Tash - Rap Life, you guys ever heard it? |
The skits on Operation Doomsday are really awesome, though they're barely skits.
That's exactly what I was going to say. MF Doom's skits are usually quite entertaining, I find. As is MF Doom. I listened to approx. one third of American Hunger before it got to tedious. Not that it isn't good i was quite impressed. just long. tough to review no doubt. |
I mean, if you think about it, the fact that you listened to a third of it means that you listened to a full album. I don't think a triple album is seriously intended to be listened to all at once. It took me two days to listen to the whole thing.
|
Then why do you discuss albums here? I care about the opinions of others, because they can help me find stuff I enjoy.
discussion is different than reading reviews, mostly i recommend things and or say a comment here or two, i don't really get into discussion if you've noticed and as far as reviews helping you out, i don't really need that with music (for the most part), i find it on my own and make my own decisions of yay or nay accordingly ;) |
on skits, they suck...i wish someone would come out with an album and spit nothing but fiyah from the beginning to the end, where it made you say WHOA!?! seriously, if you want to show your spoken word side, your comical side etc, save that for a dvd release or something, not an album release, many rappers seem to be doing that anyways for extra cash
|
you guys should check out eternia from canada/us http://eternia.ca/ and http://www.myspace.com/eternia :thumb:

The College Dropout has some of the most unbearable skits I've heard.
|
Kanye West really does need to lay off the friggin skits.
And, yeah, American Hunger isn't a one sitting kind of album. Breakfast, Lunch and Last Supper, spread it accordingly. |
Last Registration's skits make me want to throw up.
HBMS's White People has some funny skits though. |
The College Dropout has some of the most unbearable skits I've heard.
Haha. Yeah. |
Has anyone heard Kanye's new/live album? I've heard nothing but good things about it, but the whole not being sold in America thing makes it hard to hear.
|
Has anyone heard Kanye's new/live album? I've heard nothing but good things about it, but the whole not being sold in America thing makes it hard to hear.
I have Drive Slow off of it. Its pretty cool, nothing I would pay alot for though.
|
For the record, I just listened to Grimm's The Downfall Of Ibliys: A Ghetto Opera, and it's also very good. Doom is on a couple tracks.
|
Haha MF Doom is on everything now-a-days.
|
Has anyone heard Kanye's new/live album? If it's new i'll get to downloading that, then up it for the mailing list or something.
|
Ok, I'm downloading American Hunger right now. I've actually never heard of MF Grimm except for the times that he's been mentioned in this thread. Is he real well-known?
|
Not to my knowledge. I only know of him because the album he did with MF Doom.
|

This is awesome now I'm really getting into MF Grimm. The Book of Daniel is such a great song. I now want this other album. The "Ghetto Opera" part makes it sound especially enticing. Hip-hop threads rule. |
What does everyone think of De Le Soul? I've been planning on downloading some stuff by them and wondering what everyone else though.
|
They're cool. 3 Feet And Rising is a hot album, and they pull off the jazz-rap thing far more convincingly than ATCQ.
De La Soul is pretty chill. Much like ATCQ, however I like ATCQ a bit better though |
Oooo, is this actually new? Or is it just Late Orchestration? If it's new i'll get to downloading that, then up it for the mailing list or something.
It's the Live at Abbey Road thing, whatever it is called. It's probably been out for a couple months now. It seems like it came out and no one noticed it, yet everyone who did said it was excellent. De La Soul is pretty good but 3 Feet High & Rising is way too bloated with skits and overall stupid songs. Songs like "The Magic Number" rock while "Can U Keep A Secret" clearly does not. |
I've been listening to 'De La Soul Is Dead' and its pretty fantastic.
I agree with the stuff about most hip hop skits not being very good. Kanye, you are the biggest offender. |
De La Soul is pretty good but 3 Feet High & Rising is way too bloated with skits and overall stupid songs. Songs like "The Magic Number" rock while "Can U Keep A Secret" clearly does not.
Hell no, that album is a classic. De La Soul are one of the few who can make skits which don't mess up the entire flow of the album. Their best album is Stakes is High though. |
Can anybody tell me the name of the Album where the song Deep Cover (Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg) is?
|
It's from the movie Deep Cover. You'll find it on Snoop's on Dre's greatest hits. Does Dre have a greatest hits?
Thanks, man. I'll get the movie, they tell me it's good. And the song is a classic. |
